      @Phobos123 Год назад +21

      @@egieskes769 So, since Karelin was dominating, Americans specifically lobbied a rule, that after a draw, both wrestler should take a grip around each other and try to score a point, first who breaks a grip, awards 1 point to his adversary (in this case Gardner). Rule was specifically created only for this Olympics, for a dead cow Gardner and too fat to be held close. Plus, after 20+ years, it's pretty hard to adjust + rule was announced too late. After this Olympics, this rule got pulled off.

    Perhaps the most BS match I've seen in my entire life (no exaggeration). Karelin was given 2 prior matches that same day, and Gardner got none. Even disregarding this, they gave Gardner a point for nothing more than Karelin changing his grip. Perhaps the most senseless rule in sports history - they had literally made this rule up a few hours prior to this match. After the match, they changed the rule back.
    While you can argue Karelin was unable to perform his signature lift on Gardner, Gardner was also unable to do anything to Karelin either. And P.S - I'm American, I'm just stating reality like it is. Gardner did not deserve a win at all here.

      Masz rację. Jednak należy podkreślić jedno słowo kluczowe - WYTRWANIE. On nie pokonał Karelina tylko po prostu przetrwał tę walkę. A Karelin popełnił błąd, co zaowocowało tą kontrowersją, jak niektórzy mówią o tym. Przypomina nam to tylko o pięknie siły i dominacji w przyrodzie, ale też o skończoności każdej potęgi; że najwięksi tytani jednak spotykali swój los i nikt nie był niepokonany (vide: Achilles mityczny i jego pięta czy Titanic, który był "niezatapialny").

    Karelin had to deal with an elephant seal that stalled the entire match. Karelin broke his clench because he was actively trying to score, while Gardner just flubbed around. Just sad Karelin's stellar career is marked by this abortion of a match.

    Не понимаю Карелин перехватил захват.Он же вернул положение в захват Сам Классик, но никогда не знал ,что ввели такие правила.Во время СССР этого не было .Боролся сам и захваты перехватывал и бал не снимали и не начисляли.Потом Гарднер в партере был дважды,а это пассив у Карелина тоже должен быть бал.Засудили.

    People try to give Gardner a hard time, since his weight and positioning was a major strategy against karelins signiture lift. But here's the thing. Yea, karelin made a mistake that cost him a point, but Karelin wasnt able to score 1 single point against Gardner the entire match. No doubt Gardner was extremely talented to keep this monster at bay for so long, securing the victory.
    I also wonder what would have happened if karelin didnt reposition his hands/grip. He obviously did it because he sensed the position he was in was becoming disadvantageous. Perhaps he would have be taken down.

I'm glad it got changed, none of this guys tried any technique for 9 minutes, they are 130kg so it's rather normal but its just a shame.
