- starzfanzcentra... Join Angel fans - click on this link! This is a montage of vintage Angel video. I only 'know' one of the tapers but want to thank whoever made the effort in the 70's. ANGEL: Punky Meadows, Frank Dimino, Barry Brandt, Greg Guffria, Felix Robinson. Thanks to Richard Galbraith, Mark Stewart and Geoff Smith for the still photographs and Rob Schoorl for his video. Also to Ace Steele and Brian Balrich for helping out.
NOTES: Have been told the first part of the video (the long shots) were filmed at the Nassau Coliseum in New York. Possibly March 2, 1979. I did take a small liberty with organizing the flim. The initial scene of the Angel logo on a screen was moved from the start of the third piece of film, which starts around 5:25 with a 'red' scene. IF anyone has any additional info on this footage, please contact me via RUclips. Thanks!
INTERVIEW WITH FRANK ROBINSON
From the FanZine "Bad Publicity" circa 1995
QUESTION: The question that won't die - what about live video?
ANSWER: "If there's any credible live performance video it would be interesting to see and it's be fun to have. We were pre-MTV so anything we did on camera was either shot on film or poorly filmed on video (because video was in its infancy). The quality of those tapes is just archaic - the film stuff was much better. It's something you're just going to have to think about because you're not going to find any lost treasure of live performances of Angel with or without me that is gonna be what you're looking for.
It's been part of the mystique of the band. If you had tons of live stuff would there be such a desire to have it? No, you'd already have it. And how good would it be? Well, it would be what it was. Part of the band's mystique was that it was visually so striking and so stylistically coordinated both musically and image - but there's no saved images of the best parts of that. it's all kind of in people's memory and in the story that's told about the band. It creates the mystique that is heavily accepted."
I walked into a record store in the seventies and bought one of their albums blind. I had never heard of them but I thought the album cover looked cool, so I took a chance and bought it. It became one of my favorite albums. Loved the 70s.
I did the same when I saw On Earth As It Is In Heaven album ❤️

Love this song love this band so severely underrated
I was at a show in Cleveland back in 76-77 not sure of the exact year. We paid $1 to get into the show and everyone whore all white. They filmed that show and were suppose to make a movie. I heard a Punky Meadows interview on RUclips . He mentioned this concert but said He does not know who has the film. I have been waiting 35 years to see this. If it is out there please release it.
luv this band! greetings from down under cali! Ensenada, Baja mex.
The last minute looks like the guitar/ keyboard dueling solos of "Feelin' Right"...Ah, the 70's soundtrack of my teens... Angel, Starz, Kiss, UFO, Thin Lizzy, Runaways, Rush, AC/DC, and many more...
I digitize 8mm, video, audio for a living. If you need some help, let me know. I'll send you back your original recordings. Would love to help you out and see some old Angel recordings. They rock.
its a shame forgotten band no live footage released some must exist somewhere also give a listen to starz another great forgotten band
1979!! Was 13 years back then and a huge Angel (and Kiss) fan. Unthinkable in those days that I (in Holland) would see this kind of footage. Nowerdays with internet it's so easy to see. Thank you very much. PowerGroupie!
first concert I ever went to was 1976 in waterloo iowa and they where there with Boston & AC/DC! wow please teleport me back!

You hit the jackpot at the Kansas city show !
In the book And Party Every Day it says Casablanca planned on doing a concert film/movie called Angel at Midnight (I think thats the right title) in around 77 or so.It was going to have them play a show and have all the crowd dress in white like they were playing in heaven. But they canned the idea at the last minute. So there has got to be some live footage floating around somewhere. Some old reels in a warehouse somewhere?Anyway thanks for putting this up!!!
Yeah man Angel was great live show and their vocals and showmanship were very cool. 70`s Rock and Roll old school is still the best school Love It Glenn Augustyn
wow that would be cool. i would at least like to see all this 8mm footage just to see if they filmed the very start or the very end of the show. but this is a true peice of rock history any way. i saw then at the pallidium in NYC in march of 78. what a friggin night. i'll never forget.
The begining could be at Nassua Colisium warming up Styx in 79 I was there and this really looks like it
Hazy Light and Fog image in White! Tanxx!
ANGEL AHHHHHHHHH Boy that brings back some Great memories. Thanks so much for the post. God I miss this band :(
One of my favorite bands from the 70´s! Got all the albums...
But never had the chans to see them live, cause the never played live in Europe back then ;(
Great to see, just a shame they were never captured on tour professionally.
If ever there were any bands I'd love to see 70's complete concert footage of it would be Angel, Mott The Hoople, Slade and The Sweet.
Yup, That Rocked! Nice editing job, Lee!
Awesome to see some of this old Angel fan footage.
I loved Angel.I saw them at the Erie County Fieldhouse a long time ago.Maybe 1978? Im not sure. They were a normal metal band, but I think the singer set them apart.A unique voice.Awesome thanks
Thanks for sharing this. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Criminally under documented band. Wish a whole show or multiple ones from different tours existed.
Rock On!
Telephone exchange!! yeahhh!!!
Wow, I haven't heard this song in 25 years...can you put the studio version on here? And Big Boy, which was on the same record...thanks for the memories!
What awesome power!! White vision!! Tanxx!
@foggy7 Yeah all my friends got to go to Angel frank marino, show and i wasn't allowed cause parents were a lil stricked..I got to hear how great it was the next day though
Remember when rock concerts were a BIG DEAL when they came to your town? I don't think Angel ever came to Bismarck ND, but Starz did. Tickets were 8 whole dollars, which was a lot of money to me back then.
R.I.P. Mickie Jones....
Punky Meadows fuckin rules !
freakin cool
feaking cool
mmm memories! Great vid..thanks
is this the only known 8mm footage of the band?
i think this was with ufo and starz
that would be so cool.
I Love ém !
:-)
amazing footage
now let's unleash it all
met punky a few years back, he told me he had no old video/movie footage of the band
I love punkyz pouti lipz
When did he pass? What happened to him?
Only reason these guys didn’t chart like they should have is cause right when they went for commercial success was right when it was perceived as a sell out by the progressive hard rockers that had supported them during the days when FM rock was still alive and kicking….timings everything in the music business …such a great band and great guys…even like ol punky’s pouty look..truly a band that missed the boat by inches….they had the whole package….a true Spinal Tap experience was had by all….
Fucking awesome video \m/
@jacques0711 Bad time is a great song..I always liked the sinful record all though chics wanted Rod stewart this was good after being tired of ole rod!!..Angel drove the bus when it came to the hard rock image i always thought,''And i swear they got some of it from, "Sweet "..The fucked up thing is people didn't know them,"And angels problem was the nerdy new wave hair cutt fucking early 80's Plus casablanca put there eggs in one basket and went bankrupt even though they knew Van halen before '
i guess they were trying to be Queen or something
I heard Casablanca put all there eggs in one basket when it came to Angel,"And they could of had Van halen a year before Warner's got them,'I always liked Angel but Casablanca must have beat it self in the head everyday for years, thinking if weed just did the first album from van halen Angel would have been a bigger success in the later part 80's eighties..For those that don't know Angel was discovered by gene simmons of Kiss in 75 and he discovered Van halen also Casablanca bankrupt from Angel
