Jim Croce would be proud to know that his song is living on with Seth & Bob. A unique talent who was taken from this earth way to soon in a plane crash at the young age of 30.
My grandfather was with a group of friends who drove from SHSU in Huntsville, TX to Sherman, TX at Austin College to see him play and they all drank wine and cried on the hill when they learned the news.
They performed this at the Gorge in Washington state last summer. He changed the words to "operator, you can keep the 2 dollars and 85 cents." That brought a good laugh.
It's those types of things that make me love music so much, unconditionally. There's nothing that can describe how it works. It just does. God, I love music so freakin much...
One more reason I love these guy's... I grew up listening to Jim's songs become top 10 hit on the radio and this song is one of my favorites which is brilliantly done here by Seth and Bob!!!... As Jim did in the 60's and 70's, The Avetts sing about everyday life...it's Triumph's and tragedies we all endure in many ways on our many roads through their musical talents!!!
Amen, brother. Unfortunately pain is a part of life, but with God it can go from bitterness and tears to happiness in time, and we can leave the experience as a better and wiser person.
god this is amazing. I like listening to the avett brothers right before bed bc they are so peaceful and true but the problem is I can never put up my computer and end up staying up late and being tired at work all day....but its worth it
Seth's voice is literally the best voice i've ever heard and a part of me is just so sad that I'll probably never sing as beautifully, but at least I get to hear it
Brings me back to 1973 and I can remember hearing about Jim Croce being killed in a plane crash. This is beautiful. "Time In A Bottle"...would love to have them cover that one.
I am with you both! I have been listening to this song as i go through a heartbreak. I am trying to convince myself as well...but i realize that embracing the pain is the only way to learn the lesson of God. That is the only way to GROW through the pain...rather than just go through it. There is a huge difference and thank God i am learning. It would help if the pain would just go away! In due time...i pray it will.
Long live Maury Muehleisen, who's guitar parts are so intrinsic to Jim's songs, that even here, in this splendid performance, I hear his guitar part. I would like to think we all hear it. It's not even necessary for anyone to play it. That's powerful.
Very rarely a performer comes along and does a better job than the original. This guy can write his own check in Nashville when he's ready to play for money. Being true to your roots and dancing with the one that brought you only goes so far.
+Amy Jay Are you seeing 28 hundred likes and 16 dislikes? Statistically, that means that there are deaf people who liked this video. I assume they used one of those light show dealies like in Mr. Holland's Opus.
i love this song, and i enjoy this take on it, but ya know what, YOU can go fuck yourself, Trump won, and America IS going to be great again. so me, and my crappy tastes will enjoy this nation with YOU and your shitty attitude. btw, Hillary lost, suck on that a while
seth avett! you're incredible! saw you and your brother live a few months ago, y'all changed my life! I wish I Could meet you guys some day. You really are so magical. Keep making beautiful music!
Saw them perform this song live at Chautauqua last year. One of my favorite songs and hadn't heard Seth's cover until that night. It was a great surprise and amazing version. Cant wait to see them again.
Jim Croce was an amazing musician, I'm glad today's amazing musicians are giving him the respect he deserves.

I would think Mr. Croce would approve....
They performed this at the Gorge in Washington state last summer. He changed the words to "operator, you can keep the 2 dollars and 85 cents." That brought a good laugh.
I was there! So witty!
A true honor to a great song.. Such a beautiful voice.. I believe Mr. Croce would have been happy..
Seth is so flawless. I'm always amazed a voice like this and the screaming he does comes from the same person. Both are awesome.
Ugh. I listen to this too many times a day. I love it so. Now my office is empty so I'm blasting it.
It's those types of things that make me love music so much, unconditionally. There's nothing that can describe how it works. It just does. God, I love music so freakin much...
Same!
One of my favorite artists, covering one of my favorite artists. Life is good.
There is no words to describe the genius that is Seth avett.
My mom helped delivered Jim Croce's son. 😋
Seth- your voice melts me. Beautiful
I just found this and I can't stop listening to it.
Best Croce cover ever!
I left it open when I went to school today and my cat had replayed it 5000 times by the time I got home...
One more reason I love these guy's...

Love this Bob and Seth! An oldie played and sung with the dignity and respect it deserves. Kudos!

My daddy used to sit in our kitchen and play this song on his guitar. Thank you for sharing this!
Amen, brother. Unfortunately pain is a part of life, but with God it can go from bitterness and tears to happiness in time, and we can leave the experience as a better and wiser person.

This is one of my favorite songs, and Seth and Bob do a WONDERFUL rendition. Thank heavens for this!
Beautiful, a song that always moved me. And recorded backstage at Red Rocks.
I dig how they groove to the song as they play/sing it.
Charles B it's hard to play like that without grooving to it
my favorite thing about this band is how they put emotion into everything they do
A legendary song. An excellent cover.
YEP! The best cover of this Croce classic I've heard.
Forgot how much I love this song.
Just heard this song tonight at their concert. Brought me back to this version. Always such a joy to hear the passion these guys put into their music.
I just can't stop listening to this! Seth's voice seems to only get better.
Seth's voice is literally the best voice i've ever heard and a part of me is just so sad that I'll probably never sing as beautifully, but at least I get to hear it
Seth Avett makes my heart happy.
I interpret Seth's smile before the last verse as " it's okay to get your heart shattered because someone better is in your future"
Perfect!
I've watched this ten times in a row. Beautiful rendition of a beautiful song.
One of my favorite musicians playing a song by one of my favorite musicians. Thanks for this.
Brings me back to 1973 and I can remember hearing about Jim Croce being killed in a plane crash. This is beautiful. "Time In A Bottle"...would love to have them cover that one.
In love!! Croce is my favorite favorite all time and this guy--[swoon] I'm in love.
I love & miss you Bob & jamming back in the day in south jersey!!! So proud of you!
Agreed! I also love how they move with the music - and not just to keep time - you can tell they really feel it
Thank you guys for keeping real music alive on the Internet.

Makes me proud to be from NC, among other reasons. I got to see him do this in Greensboro for New Years 2013. Seth is just glorious. Come to Tokyo!
I can listen to him all day.
He does everything so well :)
Love this come back to listen to it often ☺️
Good freaking grief, I can not listen or watch this enough! Everything about it is beautiful!
Long live Maury Muehleisen, who's guitar parts are so intrinsic to Jim's songs, that even here, in this splendid performance, I hear his guitar part. I would like to think we all hear it. It's not even necessary for anyone to play it. That's powerful.

Nothing like newer groups keeping the old stuff alive. Awesome song!
Great cover! RIP Jim.
thank you for hating the ads... youtube should not be about money, but about art, music, expressing ones self. greed ruins so many things.
Seth/Bob - NC is proud to have you as native sons. Hope you get to FloydFest again real soon!
This is beautiful, thanks for honoring Jim! He was a shooting star that burned out too soon

Thank-you! Lots of love from Calgary!
I'm a big fan now since stumbling onto your RUclips Channel. Love your music. Thanks so much for the Light !
Very rarely a performer comes along and does a better job than the original. This guy can write his own check in Nashville when he's ready to play for money. Being true to your roots and dancing with the one that brought you only goes so far.

I have always loved this song... you did it justice. Awesome.
I love that they covered this tune.
I listen to this just about every day, and it makes me SMILE!!!!!
You guys hit the vein every single f'ing time!
They performed this cover this past July at Red Rocks. Was wonderful.
That smile at the end shows they know they nailed it perfectly.
How the devil does this video have any dislikes? Seth Avett is so wonderful.
+Amy Jay There are people with bad taste everywhere. As an example, just look at all the Trump supporters.
Derek Harlan Ugh, excellent point. Disturbing, depressing, excellent point.
+Amy Jay Are you seeing 28 hundred likes and 16 dislikes? Statistically, that means that there are deaf people who liked this video. I assume they used one of those light show dealies like in Mr. Holland's Opus.
That is really a good question... HOW THE HECK ???
i love this song, and i enjoy this take on it, but ya know what, YOU can go fuck yourself, Trump won, and America IS going to be great again. so me, and my crappy tastes will enjoy this nation with YOU and your shitty attitude. btw, Hillary lost, suck on that a while
