In Wisconsin we call back raspberries blackcaps and they grow wild in many places. They are highly coveted for a wine ingredient!

Just enjoyed my first crop of black raspberries - great! Just blew into my yard from the wild and took off after transplanting some last year. This year‘s batch of healthy primacanes makes me look forward to an even bigger crop next year.

I have wild black raspberries that grow on a trail that’s about a 10 minute walk from my house. it’s always incredible to go out and forage for these with family.

I have a patch in my back yard. I imagine it started from the birds. Now after a few years they have spread so that I get quite a few berries when they come in. Have to love mother nature. As a kid I used to go out with my Grandfather to pick them in spots he knew, that is when I fell in love with the flavor. Grandma would bake pies out of them, or freeze some in margarine containers and ten put them in a chest freezer in their basement.

Thank you for another fantastic video. I have found black raspberries growing wild in the woods where I walk my dog. I’ve gotten in the habit of taking a Tupperware with me to collect raspberries during our walk. I live in Wisconsin. I’m planning to take a cutting and transplant some into my garden. I agree I like the flavor of black raspberries of the red, yellow, etc. but more than that such easy to grow healthy plants that fruit abundantly, you almost can’t go wrong.

We've been harvesting a decent crop of Allen cultivar black raspberries for a few weeks now (Michigan Zone 6A). We purchased them from Stark Bros last year. They grow pretty fast and give good production with regular feedings of either Jobe's Holly Food or Espoma Holly Tone fertilizers. Interestingly, this year a few of the very large/thick primocanes did put out flowers and set fruit along with the florocanes from last year. I initially wanted to add other black raspberry cultivars like Jewel, Bristol, Munger, etc., but now I think we'll just propagate more of these to totally fill up the space we allotted for them, they're our favorite type of raspberry, but I do plan to add at least one Marion berry cane if/when I find any locally.

What about blue raspberry? I can find it at 7-11 but not at the nursery.

I have wild blackberry and wine berry. I removed a lot so the space could be used. And the thorns are horrible.
I’m seriously considering getting some thornless varieties. They should grow well.
I’m also getting a fig, but I’m still looking at varieties that will do well in SE PA.

Wow did not ever see any except the black raspberry’s brought in to sell on my island in the Caribbean. I bought a blackberry tree. Wow the purple and red are huge. My fruits from the black come out quite small as well. Thanks for sharing, wish it was also sharing the fruits lol. Should I put my tree to run on something as the branch is long and slim and really don’t want for it to break. Stay safe, stay blessed, stay healthy! God bless!

I have regular old wild red raspberry at the edge of my yard and planted purple, pink and yellow raspberry as well as a thorned and thornless blackberry in containers. Though im trying to figure out how to keep the blackberry stalks alive during winter, as my zone is 5b. I can keep the roots alive by putting them next to the exhaust for my heating, but the stalks last year died because it got too cold :(

I definitely don't care for the gold raspberries. I need to give some others a try. Our caroline is probably my favorite, but I haven't had many varieties.

Hey Ross how close are your other raspberry’s planted to your black variety? Any experience with the transfer of disease that many websites warn about? Thanks for your insight.

Caroline is my favorite red, anne has a hint of banana flavor in my opinion, very different. Do you grow or have you tried any white blackberries such as snowbank?

Do you spray for SWD? My berries have a major infestation even though I’ve been picking them and keeping the area clean
