I have watched so many videos on pruning raspberries and this is by far the easiest to understand. Thank you.
I have two Jewel Black Raspberries that are wonderfully productive. When I remove the dead canes in late spring I also remove any skinny new canes, leaving only 3 to 5 fat healthy canes. They still produce a lot, and they're a bit easier to pick. You've gotten me real interested in fall bearing raspberries, and thank you for teaching so clearly!
Best raspberry pruning video EVER! Wow! I finally feel confident. I’ve watched so many other videos on this topic. This is the best I have ever seen. Thank you!
I really appreciate that, thank you! So glad it was helpful 💗
Yes! I agree! It will take care of the 4’ mess of raspberries I have spreading all over my patch on the side of my house!
Thanks so much for the tutorial! You’re right, I finally understand the way to prune and the reasons to prune the different varieties. I have three different varieties of red raspberries and a black raspberry. I bought the Caroline variety, not realizing it is a fall bearing raspberry. I was confused about whether to prune it all the way down or let it bear twice. Your opinion is very much appreciated! It hasn’t fruited yet, but I will prune it down soon and hope for a good crop in the fall. My black raspberries haven’t really fruited yet either and the info on how to prune them was also helpful, as I am not familiar with them at all. I don’t know the variety on them because I got them from a farmers market and they were not marked. Thanks again!
Great video, thank you,
Thank you I have these questions every year. This shed some light on it for me.
Oh my word, this is the video on raspberries I have been looking for! Like... for the past 2 years since I got them. THANK YOU!
Glad it was helpful!!
Excellent video explanation! I'm also in Zone 4 WI, and I now know how to prune my berries after watching this video. I have Fall Gold, Killarney, and Boyne. Fall Gold is my very favorite!
Well done; more videos please on raspberries please. Subscribed. Thank you.
Thank you! Will do!
I'm a beginner growing raspberries. For summer raspberries, is there any harm in not trimming canes until the next summer so you can tell which are old and dead and which are going to produce?
I got a little raspberrie plant from a big box store and separated them into 7 . They are summer bearing and doing well in Hannibal Missouri . 👍
I'm in zone 6, SW PA and have Jewel blacks and Heritage reds. Thanks for the video!
THANK YOU! I have Heritage berries and found out the bear fruit twice. I thought this was wonderful, but now I realize it’s not a good thing.
I’m going to cut them back next spring!
My friend loves wine berries; never tried them.
Beautiful variety you have. I best be pruning soon.
Thank you for this. I have been at a loss as to how to prune my raspberries. I’m more than happy to just remove all canes in the winter and get berries only in the fall. I’m not getting that many now anyway.
I don’t think I’ve ever had raspberries off the vine. The kind I get in the grocery store are so mushy so I’ve never felt led to grow them myself. I’m always amazed by your harvests that you share on Instagram and now with this video I might have to get myself some plants! Thank you friend!
Thanks so much! 💗
Home grown Raspberries are on a whole new level from store Raspberries! We don't enjoy store Raspberries at all since growing them because they are so bland.
I’m so excited to be able to harvest hopefully more than a couple raspberries this year! 🎉
Good luck to you! 💗
I just cut anything that made berries down to the ground - it’s simple and works for me in New Jersey with my dad and blackberries :)
Awesome video, so informative! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you. Great explanation!
This was very helpful. Thank you. Now if only I thought of wearing a long sleeve shirt while pruning raspberries 😳
😬😬
Great video, perfect timing as I'm planting my first raspberry patch this year! Do you propagate your plants? If so I'd love a video on that too.
Thanks! Raspberries pretty much propagate themselves. Especially fall-bearing- they spread like wild.
Thank you!
That was one of the greatest videos i have some raspberries give it to me and I didn’t quite know for sure what they were now I do fall raspberries 😊 let see this year what I’m will give w I had changed the soil as well I believe I it was acid enough. How do you do your soils for the raspberries? Will get some more Tks to you ahah
I just placed an order for fall gold but there listed as overbearing. So I'm not sure what I've got.
Do you plant the black raspberries near you red raspberries or do put them in a different part of the yard? I've read you should separate them, but I don't know anyone who actually grows both.
They are near each other, but if I were doing it over I’d probably separate them.
Is Mac black really larger than Jewel black ? Some say the way around...
Excellent video! I'm subscribing!
I need help to identify a purple raspberry a friend grew. It was very upright with strong canes, conical giant fruit, and superb flavor-very different from other raspberry flavors. This was in about zone 5. Any ideas?
I've only grown the one purple variety, Royalty Purple... and I wouldn't say it has superb flavor. Not sure, sorry!
So it looks like the white in the blackrasberries and in the crevices is normal and not mold?
Correct! Normal, and not mold. 👍🏻
thank you for this. It's my first time trying raspberries. I live in Texas so I have done blackberries. To be sure, Caroline's are fall bearing so I cant cut down the canes to the ground before spring?
Caroline is fall bearing so you DO cut down the canes before spring. (Though I do think know if things are different in Texas) 👍🏻
@@wholefedhomestead thank you
@@wholefedhomestead i meant to say “can”. Lol. Thanks for the reply
Does this rule for pruning work for wild berries?
I want one of each where can i get them
Am I too late to prune here in north central Wisconsin
I have Heritage raspberries. Do I prune them them all the way down?
Thank you.
Heritage is a Fall or Everbearing veriety.
Can Joan J raspberries being ever bearing? Ours produce all summer and fall ???
Yes, any "fall raspberry" will be everbearing if you don't prune it.
