Took that trip in 96, but in 2 days (youth - more about speed than enjoying... :) ) - through Tarn Col. I currently plan to go back in December to try to find the parts of my soul, that never followed me home... Lovely video - thx!
That seems an epic trip doing it that way round! I have only done it once, in reverse from you (over Walker Pass). Was there a reason why you did it that way round - ie from Edwards to Hawdon? It was easier for me to do it the way I did it because in those days the train dropped me off at Mt White Bridge, and of course coming out at the Edwards it was only a short walk to the village and the train back to ChCh. Only problem with my way round was route finding (DoC ranger warned me that not long before they had rescued a party that went the wrong way and ended up stuck in the Otehake; and the route finding for the descent off Tarn Col is more difficult to work out than it would have been for your party climbing it from Taruahuna Pass I think). Great video - thanks.
Hi. The current DOC's brochure( www.doc.govt.nz/globalassets/documents/parks-and-recreation/tracks-and-walks/canterbury/waimakariri/ap-route-guides/route-guide-8.pdf) documents the route in that direction and this direction allows you to climb the majority of the steep sections, eg Tarn Col. My route up the gut before Falling Mountain was also much easier in that direction. This route now gets lots of traffic so route finding wasn't really an issue.
Wow great video my friend ❤️❤️🙏🙏
Lovely place 🥰🥰

Beautiful scenery. Love it. Thanks for sharing. New subscriber here. 🙂
Thanks, a great place for hiking with easy road access which is sometimes an issue in NZ.
