I have to say, fair play to Liz Handley!! Imagine having Mark Kermode say you should give up your day job, and become a professional film critic, due to reviewing a film better than he ever could!!!! Think that would make my decade!
2010: "Piece of Pie" isn't said by Helen Mirren's character. It's said by the Russian character Max played by Elya Baskin to John Lithgow just before he spacewalks to the monolith and disappears when it wakes up.
With Dune 2 crossing $700m worldwide, confident that if Dune 3 by Denis Villeneuve is on par with Dune 2, it could have a shot at $1bn worldwide which would be crazy for a Dune movie! Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire @$188.6m on a $100m production budget & tens of millions more in marketing is looking unlikely that another one will be greenlit based on this box office return.
Isn't memory odd? I've only seen 2010 once in 1984, (after I read the book). I thought it was John Lithgow's character who said "Easy as pie..." in response to Elya Baskin's Easy as cake. I must be mistaken I would say a piece of cake myself.
Mayo: "Number 9 here... Dune pt. 2." Kermode: "Can we have pt. 3?...You know, he's not the Messiah; it's just a very, very bad thing is about to happen." I internally recited the obvious Monty Python quote for you, Mark.
Excellent email, very well put. Hollywood definitely has a problem you see this particular when it comes to race. I'd also gladly listen to one of the reverend's sermons

It wasn’t Helen Mirren who said “piece of pie” or “ easy as cake” in 2010. It was Max, another member of the Russian crew.

'Piece of pie' previously uttered by Sgt Carter (Larry Hovis) in the 1969 Hogan's Heroes episode
'The Purchasing Plan'
