just bought a brazillian Ipê for making my first bo. It´s a kind of hard wood in here, very resistant and also hard. I will use your video as reference for making it since i was only able to buy the wood beam. For that reason, what are the tools you used for finishing it in a round shape? i see you used some sort of wood planer, and this tool i couldn't get the name (the one you first used which required both hands at 1:54)
Good luck! The sandpaper I used mostly here is Mirkka Abranet, it's a Finnish company so I don't know if you can find it. But of course pretty much any sandpaper will do. I just work my way down to finer grits untill I'm happy with the resault
Do you ever do anything to the ends to stop it splitting? I am planning on making one for mainly walking so I need to protect the ends I have a nice piece of beech wood. Good vid
I'll be honest. I lost all interest in the staff making as soon as I saw that anvil. I've been looking for an anvil for years and I always seem to only find them right after they've already been sold. lol.
Good presentation. Absent background annoying music and the usual dose of self-aggrandizement I see on RUclips this was refreshing.
Nice work! I'm just starting my second out of a small locust tree. Unbelievably strong wood.
I’m building one out of black locust rn! The wood is like metal!
You guys have to show me some pictures, I wanted to buy one but kinda wanted to make it from hand
My father and I made my wooden staff together five years ago.

My friend! You obviously need a much bigger anvil.
Hehe, If I find a bigger one for a reasonable price I'll buy it :)
Woww nice guide tank you😃😍❤

I haven't done anything special with the ends no. But I imagine you could ad a piece of brass or steel or plastic.
you should find bamboo, solid wood will shatter
What size was the square stock?
It was such a long time ago now that I'm not sure but i think it's about 4 cm
I like the Bluetooth symbol
Did you ever consider weighting the ends with some steel slugs with wood plugs?
No that never occurred to me
what wood can be used to make a Bo staff?
Hello and sorry for a very late answer. I used oak here. But I think any hard, heavy wood will do. And if its flexible that would be a bonus

Yes they seem to be pretty difficult to find. I was lucky to inherit this anvil after a relative to my wife
