    I ran the stock turbo on my 2010 B8 for 110,000 miles without an issue. I only removed it to replace it with a forged engine and a GTX3071R... The EA888 is a SOLID engine and over engineered, but no engine lasts forever... I suspect a lot of the failures are caused by owners being cheap when it comes to maintenance. It's definitely capable of high horsepower, too. Audi, as a manufacturer, is one of the best for standing behind what they make.

    Naptown, you are the best Audi resource on RUclips. I had that same P2099 code on my 2.0 VW Tiguan engine and it was the same issue as you stated. The wastegate linkage has been an issue for a while on these turbos. My engine only had 55k miles on it. I watch your channel to get info on my VW 2.0. One day maybe I’ll get an Audi. Thanks for giving us an education.

    Our Saab 900 Turbos from 1986 to 2010 and hundreds of thousands of miles had only oil cooled turbos with no failures. Used Mobil 1 oil exclusively. Valve covers in the four cylinder 16 valve engines were so clean you could eat out them!

    Before my 2010 A4 went out of warranty, the dealer checked it all out to see what they might claim under the warranty.
    Because my grandpa dad & brother are mechanics, I know enough to keep them honest. I trust that the dealer really just wants my old car to run at its peak level. But I honesty gone to the dealer in over 7 years simply because of their retail cost.

    Thank you for this video! I have a 2014 Audi A5 Convertible 2.0 with about 72k miles. After arriving home I pulled in garage. Went in house for 10 mins or so. Walked back into garage and there was a nice size puddle of antifreeze on my garage floor! I had my car towed into Audi after hours so they will see my car when they open. What do you think it could be? I didn't get the letter re the turbo but I did get one recall letter on the fire hazard issue which I did get done, in 2 parts (I had to do 1 part and come back at a different time to do the other). I noticed my plastic antifreeze reserve container went down to the minimum mark when usually it's at the maximum mark which makes sense as it was all on my garage floor. Will this be under this turbo warranty you speak of or is this something else, like a pump or a hose leak? I did pop the hood after I noticed the antifreeze was all on the garage floor and heard a faint hissing sound which I assume was coming from the area the antifreeze was seeping from. I just hope Audi takes care of me. Any advice? Thank you for your time❤

      I got my A4 B8.5 (2015) in October 2021 at 86,000 mi. No oil consumption at first. Now at 115K I use a quart about every 500 miles. It's my third Audi; the second one was a buyback (lemon) that had the consumption issue that VW fixed under warranty before I got it. I ran it for almost 200K before consumption started to show, and not nearly as bad as the current car.
      So, what's the fix? And what's the chance of Audi paying for it? The problem is so widespread that it seems like anyone who has the problem should get a free fix.

    I have a 2013 Q5 2.0 US edition that has recently came up with a P0299 code and contacted the local Audi dealership for support and they informed me that I was covered under the extended warranty for the turbo. I really hope so cause I think a peace of the turbo broke loose and ruined cylinder 3 (no compression/bad valve) and put a hole in the diffuser. I purchased this vehicle only 4 months prior but absolutely loved every second in it, while working properly. Do you think I could be one of their good will, or whatever they call it, cases? A little off topic, but seeing the flex fuel variant at the beginning sparked a question. How safe is running a blend of let’s say E85 + 93 for performance purposes in a non-flex fuel variant? It’s my understanding that E85 is corrosive to some extent, wondering how quickly it could cause problems from prolonged usage in a non-flex fuel variant.

    • @NaptownTuner
      @NaptownTuner  3 года назад +1

      Personally I dislike e85 and I don’t think it should have any benefit unless you have a race gas tune, in that case I would run race gas. E85 doesn’t have lubrication like gas and I tend to believe it wears things out faster. E85 is not a more powerful fuel it’s actually just more resistant to knock so you can run more boost in performance applications. that’s why you need a cold start injector for e85. Also you get worse fuel mileage from e85 so no benefit unless it’s a performance vehicle. I’ll do a video on it when I get a chance. When I was going to drift events some guys would run e85 to allow for more boost / less chance for detonation.

The car felt more alive like it was raging, would need to run on a dyno to see if it makes any real power gains. It peaks at 20 PSI boost and averages 19 or so PSI under WOT with the current tune.

      The shop should have known why, without any information as to why the engine needed replaced you won’t ever know what might have caused it. The after run coolant pump would be the last thing I would expect. Top picks are timing chain / tensioner, bearing failure, broken piston

      @@Waynesright it’s a burnt valve if a piece is missing.. I’ve seen it a few times, as far as I’ve seen so far it hasn’t scratches the cylinder wall and the piece finds it way out, a cylinder head might have fixed it but it is difficult for a shop to make those kinds of decisions, they would rather replace the engine with known good. They should have at least known one cylinder was at a loss of compression then a leak down test to see if it was top end or bottom end then cylinder head remove to inspect the cylinder condition. After the leak down test they should have given you the two options, tear the head off to inspect for repair or another price for replace

      @@NaptownTuner I did a pressure test before I took it in. Nothing from cylinder 2 and relatively low pressure from cylinder 1. Took it in they came back with basically the same results. I did not want to have them disassemble the motor just to tell me it was beyond being re-honed. Cylinders were scoped which did not look to be in terrible condition (relatively young motor at 57k or so).
      Although one thing that was very peculiar is that the spark plug tip in cylinder 2 blew off. The catastrophic failure happened one day after I swapped plugs and coils. So one theory is that that piece may have been what shattered the exhaust valve when it was ejected down into the motor. The whole situation was very bizarre.
      At this point I will try and rebuild the original motor. I was trying to do some research for after market internals for the gen2 EA888 but it doesn't seem like they ever developed too much.
