I really hope in the middle of a GMM episode Josh wakes up from his nap under the desk 🤣🤣🤣
THIS ! Needs to happen..
… this kids gonna be a writer some day
@@huntedgatherer6493 Are you talking about Josh because I’m pretty sure he went to college for food journalism lol.
@@xCindyLouWhox no… the kid that wrote the comment to which I replied is to whom I was referring
@@huntedgatherer6493 Okay, gotcha.
*Chefs:* Russets are better because of the high starch content
*Also chefs:* Soak the potato to get rid of the starch
i bet it's like cracking a window at night to cool the room down when you sleep but then wearing a blanket and warm socks.
That's what I was thinking! Lol
Just a bit on the outside so the outside is crispy and the inside is fluffy! Humans have evolved to like that combination of textures!
They didn't cook them long enough. If you look at the color difference, the unsoaked fries are darker. The soaked ones just need a little more time to make them crispy. (Neither fries seemed crispy enough).
It’s to remove the free starch.
“Can’t be nose seasoning…that’s something else.” Josh’s jokes never cease to amaze me.
My nose has been very well seasoned
A well-seasoned nose is the way to go
The reason you want to soak the potatoes is to prevent them from oxidizing. If you’re only cutting up one potato, like yall did, oxidation isn’t a problem; if you’re doing multiple like everyone else does, then the first few potatoes will oxidize in the open air.
"You shouldn't eat your potato if it's a dark lord."
Truer words have never been spoken.
Unless you’re The Spud Who Lived… in which case neither can live while the other has eyes.
Don't tell me how to live Trevor. You're not even my real mom.

I miss the “Cook Food Good” series. I actually paid attention to help me learn how to cook.
I do too, but that's why I love this series as well! It's actually helpful!
Yeah, I wish they would bring it back.
I learned fried rice from Josh and now my family demands I make it on a semi regular basis
Same
Yeah, but that's not really what Mythical Kitchen is about
I'm entering my first year as a science teacher, and I want you to know I'm gonna use a myth munchers episode to demonstrate how to plan a well thought out experiment.
Veritasium is pretty great too, he actually has a very recent episode specifically about a teaching method science experiment that’s worth checking out.
Something to keep in mind though is they dont test EVERY variable though, only the select winners based on personal preference
That’s delightful!!!- early Ed person
@@Subsistence69 yeah, the best method would be to try every possible combination of the selected variables at the very least. like, who knows, maybe the reds are the best but only if you double fry them and soak them first.
Is that a can of Tony Chachere’s in Josh’s pocket or is he just really excited to make fries?
Both
Who loves this myth muncher series and actually get somewhat educated by it.
It's amazing! I'm a huge fan and hope they make more
Basically, everyone
It’s essentially “Cook Food Better” and I’m here for it.
Thanks to the steak episode i bought a sous vide off Amazon, no regrets
It's super fun and helps improve cooking! :)… plus I prefer the videos with all 4 of them instead just Josh only.
So when’s the “waffle fry shorty” t-shirt gonna drop?
Genuinely I need it in my life
Lmao
"It's almost too Qwispy"
- Joshua Weissman has entered the chat.
joshua vs josh
who will come out on top? papa josh or mr (insert funny josh quote)
FOUND OUT NEXT EPISODE ON MYTHICAL WEISSMAN (mythical kitchen and Joshua weissman)
I started using Tony Chachere's because of this show and if anyone ever asks me why I use it so much I'll now say "because it's canon"
Where do you buy it?
is it good?
trevor biting into that potato was some serious josh energy LOL
*Idaho energy
Y'all missed the frozen vs. room-temp fries! Supposedly, freezing your fries before frying makes the potato turn some of its starch into sugar, which makes for a crispier, more brown fry.
Why did “Mimikyu is a Pokémon” bring me so much joy?
Probably because you're a gen z'er just like Trevor?
@@MrVovansim Gen Z'er here. Definitely my reason lmao
When Josh said he counted Trevors freckles “12”😂
I am absolutely loving this Myth Munchers series. Josh's boards at the start are the best.
We need a full story time of when Trevor got involved with that witch in highschool and tried witchcraft. There's too much there to not be a good story
ive been there 🤦🏽♂️ god damn witches.
Saying that makes me feel like van helsing or something.
*cries in witch*
The gist if those stories is always "some girl with daddy issues thinks she's a witch and acts goofy"
Josh! You broke all the experiments with your crazy "start with cold oil" method!
Since first being on camera Trevor has become a lot more comfortable riffing his own silly humor and I love it, same goes for V
I feel like we need a french fry part 2:
Is crinkle or straight cut better?
Is normal salt, tony's or chicken salt (it's an Australian thing) the better seasoning?
And type of oil
Chicken salt for the win mate for sure!!
no seasoning beats chicken salt it's the best!
Seeing as crinkle fries have more surface area I would think that they should have more crisp, but I've never tested this.
Deep fry vs air fry!
The "eyes" or sprouts on a potato only really matter if the potato is very green or wrinkled and shrunken. The sprouts contain glycoalkaloids that can start to turn the potato toxic. Just remember, potatoes are a part of the Nightshade family. Yes. That Nightshade family. Like Belladonna. Also I will always do skin on as the skin has the most nutrients for a potato. Magnesium, B9, etc.
And they didn't try skin on with the double fry method, that could change things.
Traver: *takes bite of raw potato* "It's delicious" *internal regret*.
I love how Tony C's is essentially airborne poison and yet is used regularly
Josh just breaking out into Gershwin’s “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off” reminds me how absolutely cultured and intelligent he is.
Ikr?
Educated, yes.
Intelligent, maybe.
Cultured? Not even a little.
Yeah, I love that song! Josh actually makes tons of really awesome references on Mythical Kitchen.
Here's an idea: the baked potato. Do you really need to poke holes in it to prevent the steam from building up causing it to explode? I call BS on that, but do the poked holes result in a better product? I need the crew's scientific analysis on this one.
I've had a potato bust open because I didn't poke holes with a fork
Lol thats not why you poke holes in a potato. You poke holes in a potato so it cooks evenly 🙃 if you don't you'll have raw potato in the middle.
As someone who's had to scrub an oven after a baked potato exploded, it's not a myth, I'm still grateful the glass door didn't break
You need the holes for it to cook evenly
I've never even heard of that happening, as far as I'm aware we don't poke ours, we do wrap them in foil though so maybe that contains them?
I love how you switched up the pairings, and I'm dying at how Nicole and Trevor were more chaotic than josh and Trevor and josh and Vi 😂
Trevor is like everyone in gen z when people swing things or make sudden noise just tensing up or flinching and just constantly on edge after lol
Idk where they found these four, but what a great group. They all seem play off each other so well
In case it matters to you, I watched all of the "Cook Food Good" series, including your single fry French fry video.
I watched, but they could have done better.
Me too. I liked the French fry one. It seemed easier than the other methods I've seen
That was one of my favorite series on the channel.
Considering the circumstances I thought that series was great
I liked all their pandemic recipes. I still make the French Onion Ramen
Normally I'm a big fan of this series, but I feel like for French fries, since every type of potato had a distinctly different mouth effect, it would've been better to try each individual method on each potato. I feel like a double fry would be better on a Yukon Gold, for example.
That being said this was made for entertainment and I was entertained, so I can't complain.
This exactly. I actually make my fries with Yukon Golds because they are the most delicious by a mile, IF you cook them right. You need to do a lower temp blanche first, then let them cool completely and firm up a bit, they will fall apart if you handle them too much at this stage, then once they are cooled and firmer, do a high temp fry.... they are incredible. Perfect combo of smooth fluffy interior and crunchy delicious exterior.
I got this above method from Matty Matheson, in case anyone was curious.
I love how all of them are gradually turning into Josh
As a Belgian, I fully endorse (and predicted) this 'french' fry outcome. As a Flemish person, I must say that we're really not "just France": 60% of us have Flemish (variant of Dutch) and not French as a first language! If anything, we're like half France, half the Netherlands, a pinch of Germany and a whole lotta compromise 😂
Thank you for saying everything I was thinking of!
Idem
As a Flemish person I agree with this 100%.
Thank you for typing this out so I don't have to
As a wallon person, this might be the first time I agree with a flemmish person 😂 (even tho, even us don't like to be called French!)
Oh my god the part where traver bites the WHOLE ASS POTATO LIKE AN APPLE and Nicole just keeps saying “ew Trevor ew” had me ROLLING
Traver is so funny to say
The whole time I've been loving the chemistry between Nicole and Josh I had no idea that Nicole and Trevor are the power couple.
I have never heard of cooking anything, especially fries, in cold oil to start. It's weird that he was surprised by the outcome.
A French chef, I think Robuchon, came up with it a decade ago. It's been covered by food magazines (it goes back to when print was a thing) and food blogs. It works if done right, supposedly.
It's a good way to make sure you have greasey, soggy food.
Thank you, I was sitting here thinking 'Dude the oil is just gonna saturate it till it's soggy!!'. I guess a true chef could do it, but laymans? Hell no, use preheated oil.
Is this the first episode Nicole is rocking a new last name? Congrats to Nicole!
Nicole “I hate edible arrangements” I couldn’t agree more. MAKE THIS PODCAST
Edible arrangements always disappoint
Yes please!!!!
I got an edible arrangement that was all honeydew melon, wth. I wanted to throw it at the delivery guy but he’s innocent.
So, I use Tony Chacere's all the time... I've never had that random coughing fit you all do. Cracks me up every time. Good video btw!
Funny because I also use it and I usually get sneezing or coughing after
I do sometimes but it depends on how much you put out at once and how close your face is to it and how sensitive you are to stuff like that
You probably don't sprinkle it from 3 feet in the air, lol!
Absolutely love the myth munchers series!!! Please continue it- it is fantastic and the chemistry between all of you is absolutely fantastic!! Need a fries episode 2… different oils (beef lard!) and different fry cuts!!!
You’ve got to soak them in salt water. The salt seasons and pulls water out of the fry to help with crispiness.
I soak mine in beef bone stock. 😁
Some people say water with baking soda in it too
Also when the water gets starchy and cloudy, you need to drain it and add more water.
We would do ours for 24 hours as well
Yes! A brine.
2:43 Man, Josh will forever be butt hurt about how little views Cook Food Good got XD
Which is unfortunate cos it was solid. I really liked it anyways 😆😆😆
@@jasonanderson8324 Same!
I’m a SIMP for mythical, they had my view before they ever filmed it.. so biased opinion coming… I liked it, commented, subscribed, and clicked the bell! Every hecking episode!!
Kind of hard to be reminded about it when at least 2 of these episodes contradict those.
Those were the only ones I watched all of! I think it was just a naming issue, tbh.
Used to work in a restaurant and cooked buckets and buckets of breakfast potatoes daily.
We'd soak our cut potatoes in big buckets for at least a whole day, 48 hours was best
Whenever something went wrong and we needed to chop them up and cook them immediately, we could see a massive difference in how fast the fresh cut would brown vs. the soaked. I think the "cold oil" method helped to even out the browning because at 375°F oil, the difference was literally night and day between soaked and unsoaked
They just did a how to give the best hug and I feel like Josh should've been on it for the birthday thing 😂 even though he says he doesn't like being touched
What about the fish and chips approach you did a while back? Blanch (par-boil?) the fries in water as salty as the ocean then put them in the freezer until they are almost frozen then from there shock them in some pre-heated oil until they looked tanned and delicious. This became my go to fry (chip) ever since I saw that
I par-boil them, cool them and then double fry them. You get ultra crunchy fries.
they forgot to test hot oil vs heating it from cold
What? That's the last test- single fry from cold vs double fry in hot oil.
I love this group 🥰 so chaotic but also so wholesome
I felt a special connection when Josh said how good our (Washington) potatoes were.
Also, “Mythical Kitchen, empowering you with ranch” is going to get put on a sign and hung in my kitchen.
Trevor biting into that potato made my morning. I had to grab some Tam'Pon's to wipe away the tears of laughter. You guys kickass!
An update from the Pizza Waffle Nacho video, I added a goblin chef character to a D&D game I'm running.
He's named Jawsch and runs the cafeteria at a government agency similar to MIB but paranormal.
So, R.I.P.D.?
Myth munchers have to be my favorite MK episodes, they're always so funny and love learning the best way to make my fav foods! ☺
I love Josh's energy!! Seriously!! It's so fun to watch!!
The only problem in this video is Josh’s cold oil method 😂
I know - where did they get that from? Nobody does that!
@KuroiMushi exactly 😂
@@stan1036 XD I think it might be him thinking it's the same as bacon. If you cook bacon in an oven that isnt preheated it's supposed to make it crisper or some crap.
@@hoopdoop4079 but that's a way different story I can't see how he can be convinced they're related 😂
Potatoes are like an oil sponge, if you don't shock the outside with hot oil it will definitely soak up oil and get soggy from the inside
@@MakramTheThird idk its Josh's brain, man, no one knows what goes through it 🤣
You guys should also compare these fries to Heston Blumenthal's triple-cooked fries!
The problem with Josh’s way of cooking fries is you can only cook one batch of fries. Are you supposed to wait for the oil to cool down before you start a second batch
This series is entertaining and educational… love seeing all the results.
i have watched every video from gmk since the beginning of quarantine and it has consistently delivered quality content
I love Nicole so much. She’s like the big sister of GMK.
O this was Trevor at his best, he almost looks different than the start of the show, obviously it's been over a year, but still today he finally looks like a well sauced guy in comparison to being partially sauced. 👍
No wonder Rhett and Link haven't heard from him. Nartu Fody has taken over the Mythical Kitchen.
Haven't heard that name in years lol
The don’t soak doesn’t surprise me. Why choose the starchiest potato, then soak them to remove that starch?
In a restaurant setting, washing off the starch on the outside of the potatoes keeps them from sticking together and helps the oil last longer. Doesn't really apply to home cooking though.
@KuroiMushi plus it needs to last for multiple batches, nobody wants to change the oil in a fryer at 7pm on a Saturday night
Not allowed to drink on RUclips despite the ads they force upon us are for alcoholic beverages. Thanks RUclips, I hate it.
Still the best Tony C's commercial out there, I'm hooked on the stuff now.
I really is. I have purchased Tony C's for myself, my parents, and two of my friends now because of this show.
i cannot announce hard enough that i love the Myth Munchers test kitchen, it really answers questions ive had, regardless of how memey it is.
As a person from Louisiana it warms my soul to see them choking on the chemical weapon known as Tony's when you dust it.
wouldn't the different potatos be different depending on how you cook them?
Love you Josh and crew! I have an episode idea, can you please show us how to make the best garlic bread? I need all your garlicky secrets! Love from your Australian fans.
The chemistry between the kitcheneers is just getting better and better
Since josh got his hair cut...I can not unsee how similar his head profile is to that of ancient Egyptian royalty. Maybe that's where all his magicality comes from?
Be Your Magical Best.
I'm not sure, heading into this, whether or not yukon gold will make a suitable frying potato, but they are definitely one of my favorites for mashing duty. They have a natural buttery flavor and a smooth creamy texture. I suspect this won't be particularly beneficial when it comes to frying, but if they do survive the fry basket, I suspect they'll have a lovely flavor. Edit for more info: if you want to be especially lazy, most frozen fries have already been blanched in oil before freezing, so you can totally just let them come back to room temp and chuck them in a fryer for the crisp. I also think that they should do a short using the proper preparation methods to see if the double-fry and peeling help make yukon gold or irish red more competitive against the russet.
This is an underrated series. Some seriously valuable learning here and hella entertaining at the same time!
Myth munchers is honestly a god tier video series
Did Nicole get married? Her last name is changed in the intro! If so, congratulations!!
yes she did, very recently!!
she shared pictures on her twitter a couple days ago also!
@@vistacruiser aww I'm so happy for her. She can make more than quesadillas at home now haha.
Yes, didn't you hear the disturbance in the force when millions of men cried out in despair?
She'd been engaged for a little bit. I noticed her twitter handle changed when checking out the Mythical Kitchen twitter.
This is actually a very comprehensive and helpful series, I'm actually making better food because of this
Actually???
im so glad V is part of the mythical kitchen, she matches joshes energy so well! she always ups the fun in any episode she's in!
Now I'm waiting for the GMM episode where Josh pops out the desk complaining about noise, only we would get it.
I want a GMM episode where they try different types of potatos and guess/rate them
LOVING the zoolander quotes lately!
Potatoes are simple to fry and seem to have the best taste. Potatoes that go well with any dish are extras, but I think they're the main characters that you can't live without. It's always a fun broadcast. Thank you.😊👍🍟💯✨
This myth muncher episodes are cool fun and educational
Loving this series
I feel like skin-on should've gotten a chance at double fry.
I feel like soaked should have gotten a chance on double fry, and also each potato types
@@t.jrocket2589 I could maybe see soaked, but the potato types were more for flavor and internal texture.
I can't stop thinking about Josh streaming track and field. I think that's really cool!
these team pair-ups were extra chaotic, great episode!
Lovin the close up of Tony's in the apron pocket lolol Gotta keep it within reach at all times!
You can't just soak them once, you need to KEEP replacing the soaking water until it isn't cloudy.
YES I WAS WAITING FOR THIS LETS GOOOOOO
That is a great result for russet potatoes. Unfortunately they did not do the other potatoes justice since with the varying starch and moisture content of each breed, they all benefit from a different approach to preparation and frying. You can make great fries with any type of potato as long as you treat it right, the Yukon gold probably would be great with the blanch in water and then double fry technique that I use with my local potatoes.
9:47 that moment when you realize that they are gonna use the knife that had trevor’s potato spit on it.
What’re mythical kitchen fans called? Not mythical beasts…. MYTHICAL YEASTS
Thats my ex girlfriends nickname
Or how about mythical… treat? Mythical Treats 😎
Or, mythical whisks?
Josh: "Keeespeeenesss"
Me: (while laughing hard) I love this show so much
We need a part two of this!! Baked vs. air fryer. We usually put our fries in the air fryer.
I love this series!!
Trevor is so adorable 🥰 Vi is growing on me fast and I hope her goofiness gets to shine soon 💜 Nicole is mom 💞🧬💞 Josh … good work, slugger 💪🗡🌭
"Available wherever you get your podcasts"
I get my podcasts on RUclips 😢
Fun fact! You can sprinkle baking powder on stuff before you deep fry it to make it crispier.
Maybe baking powder on a red potato is the way to go🤷♂️
Best series plz make a million of these.
Bring back food fears! I want to see what Nicole and Trevor are afraid of
No no no. Please, I'm so done with gross food....
14:25 It's "cwispyness", damnit
The nap guide reminded me of when a coworker of mine made Employee of the Month and his picture was of him napping on a bench. Lol.
Lmao 20:30 Josh channeling Yoda on Dagobah as he’s eating the fries.
