I had no idea about your dad but just read your piece on him and the hungry man chicken fried steak. That was so dope to read. I grew up in a similar situation. Most nights were either $1 frozen meals, a hamburger patty with a knorr rice or pasta sides packet or a dish called tramp soup which was essentially a soup made of ground beef, water, potato and Italian spice. That's what got me into cooking too. The first thing I learned how to make from scratch was mac and cheese when I was 11 or so. I've been cooking ever since. I've wanted to pursue a career in food for awhile but my inability to pay for culinary school has always left me feeling like I'm not good enough or don't belong in serious kitchens. Your honestly a big inspiration for me the way that you celebrate simple cheap foods and are unpretentious and welcoming which isn't the most common in the culinary scene. Seeing you and hearing your story has really made me consider making the jump and figuring out how to do this. Thank you for sharing.

I have a theory that Josh comes up with the ideas for the food and then goes to lunch. It’s always hard to tell if they actually like the food. They obviously have to fake it even if it doesn’t come out good. You can tell David actually liked it because of how excited he got about being able to eat the rest and he kept eating through the rest of the video.
