- Score is taken from Recording Sessions of The Black Cauldron (1985) soundtrack. Composed by Elmer Bernstein.
NOTE: This musical piece is interesting. The Black Cauldron is known for its deleted scenes, which have been done by new studio chief Jeffrey Katzenberg at few months before the premiere of film. This has been made because of avoiding a PG rating from the MPAA.
If you start to listen at 2:00, you'll hear something new. At this point, these lazy cuts has been done and can be easily heard and recognize during the film. The most graphic moments in any Disney films happens here. More skeletons pops out from green smoke than in final cut. Also what I have heard that one of Cauldron Born warrior invaded a villager's neck and torso got cut. And the most well known one, man gets dissolved by mist. There's been animation cels of that shot in internet. Видеоклипы
''Now I call on my army of the dead. The Cauldron Born. Arise my messengers of death, our time has arrived!''
that deleted scene was traumatizing even as an adult.
YAh
2:00 (guard bursts bubble with spear)
2:02 (horned skeleton pops out)
2:03 (bubble burster/guard gasps)
2:04 (another skeleton pops out, the one that zooms their face in like in the movie)
2:06 (skeletons completely devour guard from neck to torso, which is likely the one shot in the movie but with 2 different guards and minus the shot of him being devoured)
2:09 (2 other guards drop their spears in shock like in the movie)
2:10 (4th skeleton pops out, but it’s the one from the trailer)
2:13 *(infamous melting man sequence from Internet)*
Arise my messengers of death ! Our time has ARRIVEEED !!
The original negative if this was never cut, so all the cut scenes still exist. Mind you, Disney will probably never release them; after all, an R rated animated feature isn't their forte...
The scene would, at most, get the movie a PG-13 rating. I think the only reason they were concerned about an R rating was that in 1984, when the movie was set to originally be released, the only options were PG or R. Of course, the PG-13 movie did exist in 1985, when the movie was ultimately released, but the cuts had already been made by then.
“Now I call on my army of the dead! The cauldron born! Arise, my messengers of death! Our time has arrived!”
So basically (according to the jump cuts and *rare* storyboards):
1. Guard uses spear to burst the green bubble.
2. Skeleton comes out.
3. Bubble burster guard gasps in shock.
4. Another skeleton comes out. (the one shot in the movie after the 2 guards drop their spears before they are dog-piled)
5. They literally dog-pile on top of the burster guard (like that one shot in the movie but with 2 guards that are different)
6. They completely devour him from neck to torso.
7. Two more guards drop a spear and look in shock (like that one shot in the movie)
8. Then, a 3rd skeleton pops out (but it’s the one from the shot in the original trailer)
9. Dissolving green mist surrounds another guard’s body, who is on the ground. (The mustached guard from the shot in the movie where they dog-pile him)
10. The mist completely melts his body and he screams helplessly as he is melted into a skeleton. (Infamously, there are 5 animation cels of that on the Internet)
*And then you have the rest if the film; Eilonwy saying “Oh, it’s horrible!”*
3:08 I can almost hear him saying "Only moments away from victory...my greatest triumph."
That cauldron is literally Disney’s version of the Ark from Indiana Jones.
I wonder if the scenes still exist, it would be awesome to see an extended version of the film with the darker undertones kept
of course that scene exist, some of the scene's cels were sold.
And this soundtrack has obvious jump cuts left in the film.
2 in total.
I heard that when they release the black cauldron in blu ray, they'll let us see the cut scenes.
Well, that was a f**king lie.
Back when disney wasn't afraid to be creepy as all hell
A few years before Black Cauldron, Disney rejected Secret of Nimh because they thought it too dark.
Am I the only one to think that Horned King's theme is quite similar to the Ark's theme in Raiders of the Lost Ark ?
No, it's more like Gozer's theme from Ghostbusters.
Not joking, this film made me love all the darksouls franchises
@@gageperuti5519 Elmer Bernstein composed both Ghostbusters and the Black Cauldron.
That cauldron reminds me of the Ark itself.
:( our only hope now is Jon Hale's black and white VCR tape.
Yeah.
Well, it's a bit late for that, he kind of... died. I'm sure he saw them though, seeing as he scored them.
2:25 - 2:27 and 2:31 - 2:33 sound like it came from DBZ
It does because of those audio queues lol
Admit it, you came here for 2:01
