I like how they kept Geno, who's normally very collected, still going "Yo, Smithy!" at the sight of him.
I think it's because he has a bone to pick with him like "Yo Smithy I'm here to end you once and for all"
But no "who do you think you are? Bruce lee?"

I was hoping the remake would go into Smithy's backstory. It's always been my headcanon that the Smithy Gang was the result of wishes made of destruction, and that Exor fell on Bowser's Keep because...well, he's the main menace to the Mushroom Kingdom.
You're kinda confusing smithy's backstory with the dark star's... Though he does summon it in this battle.
Hm, doesn't really follow the theme, I think. I forgot if this is canon or not, but I remember something to the tune of: "The Mario World is one of silliness. There's not really weapons in the traditional sense: puppet parts, frying pans, Koopa shells, chain chomps, ect. Smithy's gang are all medieval age weaponry: battle axes, spears, swords. Smithy's invasion is a attempt to poison the innocence of the Mushroom Kingdom with true violence and death."
The only exception is Mario (and, say, the Hammer Bros) and Smithy himself both use hammers.
And roughly remembering just off the top of my head, I think Exor and Mack are the first _actual swords_ I remember in a Mario game, in the entire franchise. Contrast, the axe blades in the first Mario game were _not_ used *on Bowser,* but *_on the bridges_* over the lava.
My theory is that smithy was a failed prototype that's trying to prove he's Superior to everyone on the planet and that may be getting rid of wishes is his way of making everyone feel as hopeless as he does, my other theory is he was trying to mass-produce his self in an attempt to create unstoppable army and wishes had to be destroyed to do that or he needed the Stars to make his own wish so he can make that happen, both of these theories are supported by the final battlefield at the end
Hey cmon. At least Mario rpg remake did better than brilliant Diamond and shining Pearl remake, right?
This gets me right in the feels. They did a real nice job of updating the overall look of the game while staying true to the original.
I always thought the star was just a logo on his armor, despite that Mallow would point out otherwise
I always thought that Smithy ate/forge the Star to show it through his chest.

nah the bass was the best part and it's drowned out in the remake
@@xKillZone99 It's like they said: "I receive the bass's volume, you receive sick af guitar noises."
But also it's not like you can't hear the bass at all, it's still fairly noticeable.

I like the nice little attention to detail with how the fight starts showing mario and the whole gang facing smithy down in the original all the characters just merged back into mario with him jumping into the battle alone but here it makes it feel like the whole gang is here ready to put some work in.

I prefer the original arena for Smithy's final form. The army of Smithys underneath was quite creepy for a Mario game.
It certainly spoke to Smithy's character. It made me think that the one we fought was just one in a series, like the factory itself.
@@brimstoneclub The way I see it I think all the Smithy heads are weapon moulds he made for himself that he deemed not perfect so he simply dumped them. Left to rust and rot. Since he makes weapons and he himself practically IS a weapon it's not out of the question.
@@RJS2003i believe he was mass producing himself like the terminator and his true form is very similar to the t1000 being made of Liquid Metal and being vulnerable to extreme heat.
Two things I didn't realize before: that Bowyer's head, I think I see Yardovitch's spear, and Mack's pogo-sword are all in the background.
Secondly: since the late 90's I thought Smithy's head's wizard form was some kind of duck-billed creature. I never realized it was just the line on the crown that I thought was a mouth.

Looked this video up after someone mentioned how Smithy going first in the fight, seems to sync the first sledge attack to the music. And then someone mentioned the remake making it definitely intentional.
I actually own this game for the SNES, and it's okay but the remake is loads better. I like how cutscenes have been changed in the remake from the original, also at the end during the fireworks display, if you go to Moleville and buy several fireworks you get a better ending. I think you have to buy at least 6 or 8 to get a starburst at the end. (The final big bang at the end of the display is the burst you need FYI) awesome video BTW 😎

I was hoping for a surprise 3rd form where just as you think hes downed the star on his chest reacts, and the eyes in all the Smithy heads around you start glowing red and suddenly spring to life floating around him until they merge and make him bigger and even meaner looking. "ITS TIME FOR ROUND THREE, MEDDLERS!!!!"
Am I the only one who thinks Smithy's final form is smaller than it was in the original SNES game?

Were all the characters at the highest levels possible when taking on the final boss?
Having played a lot of the original as well as the remake I'm going to guess they're around level 21 or 22 here. Maybe a little higher but definitely not maxed.
@@fullarioI just wondered if being at max level was recommended for the final boss. As a kid I only ever got to play the original as a rental from the video store(yeah I’m that old😅) so I didn’t have the time or patience required for a game like this.
@@doctorwyvern9992 Hey I'm 38 and remember renting games for the weekend from Blockbuster. 🙂I've found being around level 25-26 is good enough for Smithy. For fighting the secret boss Culex (the real final boss IMO) in Monstro Town I try to be as close to 30 as possible.
@@doctorwyvern9992for me the only way I could beat him was with the lazy shell and lazy shell armor. I never did it without it

In the original I thought if your 3 on screen characters died that was it. You didn’t get to swap in the other 2
Yeah, auto swapping in the back members if all the front members were taken out was a new feature added to the remake, that did not exist in the original.
