Hi Bumblebee. Seriously, I could never get tired of repotting videos. Everyone has their favorite types of media and pots or baskets, and different ways of cleaning and sniping off roots. It's kind of like watching a recipe video. Same dish but different ways of cooking and different herbs and spices. Lol. Enjoy your week.
Hi🤗🤗, How did you know I have to repot my Cattleyas?😂 Awghrrr…..I don’t like repotting orchids because I always think I did it wrong! Then I wait expectantly for weeks to see if the poor little orchids survived my clumsiness. I have repot fatigue from doing my own orchid repots but never from watching your videos 😁 please make more videos and longer🙏🏼 Keep well & it’s happy growing orchids with you! 🌸
Hi Sue, I know exactly what you mean. I'm stressed out until they show enough signs of new growth and roots and I can finally relax. And I feel fatigued even before I start repotting, haha! Longer videos? Ugh. Filming is fun, but I am always glad when I'm done talking. I need every single brain cell to keep the speed up without making too many mistakes. :D Anyway, thank you! :) Happy growing to you, too!
All this time I thought I was a horrible cattleya care taker because my orchids always decline immediately (and continue for a solid 1-2 months) after repot, all existing roots rotted. Now I know it is probably not only me. Thanks!
Hi Lisa, that happens to me all the time! They are set back immediately and look awful for a couple of months before they bounce back. Happy growing! :)
Setback is one of the reasons I postpone repotting, but I agree 100%, as long as there's no signs of decline in the orchid or the medium I just don't feel the need to. Happy growing! :)
Thanks so much for sharing...I always enjoy your videos. This was timely for me, a Cattleya that has never been divided in my collection is going under the knives soon. 😳 I dont want to, but it has to be done. Lol! Your video helped give me courage. 🙂🌺
Thank you so much for your very kind words, Amy! :) I think I know how you feel, haha! :D I will keep my fingers crossed your Cattleya will bounce back very soon after the division. Happy growing and have a wonderful weekend!
It’s true there are many repotting videos on RUclips, way too many perhaps. But you have a unique approach to repotting and I really enjoy your repotting videos! So please let more come! 😜 I learned from you to use relatively small pots for my orchids, which saves space and reduces the chance of rotting. I am always amazed to see how you manage to squeeze all the roots into a small pot and the orchids end up looking very compact and neat! Once again, what an honor to be a recipient of your best-loved Cattleya! And thank you for all the publicity. 😄
Haha, thank you for your kind words. :D There's so much information on growing orchids on the internet. I wonder what people are still interested in seeing more of. Blooms, if in doubt, I guess. :D Setback is one of the reasons I postpone repotting, but as long as there's no signs of decline in the orchid or the medium I just don't feel the need to. Plus it's space saving, indeed. Guess who has started blooming today? 😍 No scent yet, but the most beautiful and special little flower.
@@bumblebeesorchids3408 Oh I am so happy to hear the Caulocattleya Chantilly Lace Twinkle has bloomed for you! 😁 That’s what I was hoping for. The scent is not too strong, a bit powdery, quite pleasant, I would say. I hope you will like it. 😉
What a treat to see where my beautiful new cattleyas came from ❤️ I hope to finish editing my unboxing video tomorrow. Can you believe, I was so excited I forgot to record an intro, just dived right in 😂
I hope they'll bring you a lot of joy. I am excited to see how they will progress on your windowsill or maybe even in the greenhouse. Perhaps you will pot them in clay pots as you use to. :)
Never too many orchid repotting or orchid pest videos, IMO. :D Especially your collection, you have so many great specimens. I love seeing how other people's orchids are doing in the pot and under what kind of care, I think it's fascinating. And you repot at different times and sometimes go against "popular" guidelines, so I'm doubly (is doubly a word? :D ) interested in your updates, etc. It really tells you a lot... if you just do what everyone else is doing, there's a limit to what you learn. Anyway, this helps me because when i repot catts, mine shrivels too and I didn't know if it was just me. ;) Thanks!
Thank you for your encouraging comment. :D I'll try to film more repotting videos then! I have to admit that repottings tend to stress me out until the plants show enough signs of new growth and roots and I can finally relax. And I get shrivelling all the time. ;) Concerning filming I am always glad when I'm done talking. I need every single brain cell to keep the speed up without making too many mistakes. :D Anyway, thanks again and have a wonderful weekend!
I love that you take so long to repot and stray from the normal “repot every 1-2 years” your plants become beautiful specimens and I wouldn’t mind having set back once every 5-6 years instead
Hi Ian, setback is one of the reasons I postpone repotting, but as long as there's no signs of decline in the orchid or the medium I just don't feel the need to. Plus it's space saving. :D Have a wonderful weekend!
Thank you! :) There's only so much time in the day for watching youtube videos, so I figured I needed some good reasoning for another repotting video. :D Happy growing!
I enjoyed this new video a lot! Before watching it I watched Your video about securing new roots during repotting, made in 2016 (not for the 1st time :) and I have noticed a change in Your voice. But I like both :) Anyway, I regret Your partner and You had not made the Application for android system on mobile phones as I have been given a voucher from You and have been using phone with the Microsoft Windows Phone software until recently I have changed to android and ...still am not able to use this marvellous application of Your construction :( Good luck with Your orchids! I like watching them a LOT! :) Since many years :)
Hi katessa, it's always a pleasure to read from you. :) I now have a better microphone and I guess I feel a bit more secure speaking English. I'm sorry there's no android version. :/
Hello Bumblebee, interesting and instructive video about dividing cattleyas, I like the way that you immediately show the results 3 weeks later, it requires a lot of planning on your part. The large bark is also interesting, why do cattleyas like large bark ? I understand that you have been growing orchids for many many years ? How many ? Thanks for sharing your knowledge Bumblebee.
Hi Andre, thank you for your kind words. :) To be honest I am very slow when it comes to editing my videos. When I finally get around editing the orchids have sit in their new pots for a couple of weeks and I can include a clip into my videos. :D From what I have experienced Cattleyas are able to grow a big amount of thick roots that are able to hold a lot of moisture, so they neither need nor enjoy small bark that stores moisture for them. I have been growing orchids for about 15-16 years now. Happy growing and have a very nice Saturday!
Hi. I think that within a few months I will repot a Cattleya that will bloom soon but, since it's well hydrated, I want to see the blooms first! Now, when the blooms are done, I will repot it in coarse bark, which seems to do the trick for me. I find it to be quite stressfull, just like you, but since it's actually the best I can do for my plant, I will take the risk of repotting it! If your catts are making a fast recovery, why mine, which is a complex hybrid, shouldn't?
I agree 100%. Setback is one of the reasons I postpone repotting apart from just not feeling the need to as long as there's no signs of decline in the orchid or the medium. But sometimes we have to do what needs to be done. I'll keep my fingers crossed your Cattleya will bounce back soon after the repotting. :) Happy growing!
