I don't think Stephen is belittling people who believe or have faith/ religion.. I do think he's very passionate and upset with horrible things that happen in the world in the name of religion.
Fry is one of the kindest "Public Atheists" out there. Often making sure to say that people should be free to have their personal beliefs as long as they don't force them on others. He does however, as a gay man, get terse with people when they start telling him how to live his life, and how he is doomed to hellfire, damned as a sinner for the form of love he acts out in his daily life. But can you blame him for that? it's a hell of a thing to be told. And by people who aren't happy to keep their beliefs personal, but wants them legislated. Put into law. By a goverment. This shit isn't theoretical. He has been fighting for gay marriage since before that was legal in the UK. And there are plenty people out there who think we should reverse that particular move. I'd say what i think of those people but youtube might censor me for foul language.
He is not incredibly cruel to people who have faith and has said many times that you can’t believe in what you wish, he is against all organised religion and those who use it to enforce moral standards.
@@glastonbury4304it’s totally taken out of context. They were talking about bad stuff done in religions name and someone asked why and he said because they are idiots
I would tend to disagree with the statements about Fry belittling religion and those who practise it. From everything I’ve seen, he’s extremely kind and open about it and how much he loves the culture of church and the stories of religion. His only problem with religion is how people use it to justify war, bigotry and crime. The most heated I’ve seen him about religion isn’t about the people who practise it but rather the distress it causes to people who were forced to believe in it throughout history. I’d recommend watching the full debate of whether the catholic church is a force for good on RUclips
I don't think stephen fry goes out his way to belittle people of faith, if he is in a debate then its kinda in the nature of the debate to be like that, i maybe wrong but im sure thats the case.
My theory on sleep is that, evolutionarily, if you cannot see well in the dark, it is safer to stay in one secure place and calm yourself until it is light enough for you to see.
The general medical consensus is… Seven minutes without oxygen, seven days without water, seven weeks without food. To be the absolute maximum for the average person
I used to work in 3-shifts, and I learned to stay awake. It spoiled my sleeping routine. I was awake seven days straight (besides micros sleep moments)... After that week I had to go to hospital, there were voices in my head and I could not remember my Visa pin? No need to get high with drugs, just don't sleep.
You really miss the what Stephen Fry says...you are making up your own narrative...never has Stephen Fry called someone an idiot...not being rude but you are making up a story as you haven't listened at all to what he says...
Hi Lauren, in the last clip about Sigmund Freud, the guy on the right is Vic Reeves the long time comedy partner of Bob Mortimer, and the guy next to him is Roger McGough, poet, and one third of the chart topping comedy band of the 60s and 70s, "The Scaffold" from Liverpool. One of the other two members went by the name Mike McGear, real name Peter McCartney, Pauls brother.
Tbf most of his problems with religion are to do with the damage it can cause. Not just "ha! You're dumb for having faith!" I don't like him for other reasons. But he has well constructed arguments against organised religions, not just shitting on them.
I'm not saying that he is entirely wrong; or that he is as malicious about it as say, Ricky Gervais. I've just seen a few interviews where he definitely does NOT make the distinction between having faith as an individual and the harm that organized religion can cause, and it often feels like he is attacking the individuals.

Believe me, he has said some vile things about people with a religion. He's also transphobic.

Stephen Fry is not ‘cruel’ at all. He has his beliefs and he allows people to have theirs, it’s comedy, it’s a joke, take it as such.
Ridiculous.
The answer pops up on the screen when it's one of the answers that most people think it is but is actually wrong
Belittling, really? In what way?
Is your faith so fragile that you complain about those who critique?
He is not incredibly cruel to people who have faith and has said many times that you can’t believe in what you wish, he is against all organised religion and those who use it to enforce moral standards.
I have never heard Stephen Fry call anyone an idiot.
Exactly...she just made that up to suit her narrative...

Thanks for clarifying. I thought McGough was Ian McEwan (who'd somehow acquired a northern accent).
Your "uh huh" at 17:10 was absolutely identical to the one at the beginning of Gwen Stefani's "Holloback Girl"
