Just so I'm clear, if I seeded my yard in Charlotte in the fall with tall fescue, then I shouldn't use pre-emergent now, but wait until this coming fall? Is that right? Our ground temps aren't at 55 degrees yet - it should get there this week - but I'm already seeing a few flowering weeds pop up. If I'm not supposed to use pre-emergent, what can I do to fight these off now? THANKS!

Always enjoy the podcast. Regarding the second app using dithiopyr as a post-emergent for visible crabgrass seedlings is that the herbicide halts root formation, preventing the plant to take in water and thereby dying of drought stress. That's my understanding, so I think in practice your recommendation may still apply. ~ mike

I did a mixture of glyphosate and Resolute for my first round of the year about 4 weeks before I expect soil temps to rise up above 45 (for me typically mid February) I will come back April with a light app of Specticle. I know Specticle is typically used in fall (did that too) and have been told it could slow my green up but we tried it at the golf course last year and had great results. When I get to weak areas of the lawn I just shutoff the sprayer as Bermuda will not readily crawl over the treated areas as well. I no longer have to use the fert I used to that had barricade in it. Lawn is doing great and neighbors are firing their lawn care companies because my lawn still dominates! Unfortunately for their lawn companies my neighbors don't understand that I am constantly on my lawn, that company they hire is not and it's not a fair comparison. Mowing techniques help change the lawn just as well as the chemical treatments! Great video Alan!

Allyn, Another great podcast. I'm a newbee when it comes to lawn care, but your videos have been definitely helpful with getting me out there and confident in what I'm doing. I'm planning on using the Scott's Weed and Feed on my cool season lawn and was wondering if you could advise on the split application you discussed. I figure that the split is cutting the pounds to the ground in half, but when do I put on the second application? Again, thanks for all of your videos, they have definitely been helpful. Hopefully next year I will be confident enough to move on the the liquid fert and weed control products.

Alan, I love listening to your podcast/videos as it makes me long for the short summers that we get up here in the north, my question for you is, your PreEmergant window stops when the solid temps hit 80 degrees. Our soil temps here in Grand Forks, ND reach 70 degrees for a 20 week time period in August what would you recommend? I usually only see dandelion activity after July 4th as I have usually sprayed 2,4d on the entire lawn by then. I am going to try 2 apps of your prodiamine this year.

I picked up some 0.68% Prodiamine 0-0-7. Usually I go with Scotts Halts product. Been under applying that apparently., as I didn't know the actual lawn square footage, was off by 30%. Paying attention to the lawn now, got a spreadsheet built with applications and concentrations. My single application should last right when fall reno and overseeding takes place. The cold is coming, wont be doing anything with the lawn til at least mid-March.

Cool season lawn here. You say to throw down pre-emergent when soil temp crosses 55 deg F. The greencast website suggests we have crossed 55 briefly and have dropped back below. I threw ‘er down when I saw 55.
What is the trouble with throwing down slightly early? Is it just that you lose a little duration of protection? Why shouldn’t someone apply early?

Hi, does Prodiamine control Southern Crabgrass? The label indicates only Large and Smooth Crabgrass. Dimension 2EW label lists all 3 types of Crabgrass: Large, Smooth and Southern.
Thanks in advance for all your help!
