4:55 Well actually 🤓in the source material the manga written by the great Toriyama Akira, Goku actually used a Kaioken x4 versus Vegeta. So basically if you used your mind a little bit🤓 you’d realize technically Vegeta did infact fight 4 Gokus 🤓🤓
Battle of Z is a fascinating game because frankly when taken for what it is? It's a good one that's genuinely pretty fun. The problem was in large part just how BADLY it was marketed here in the US and the time it was released. After Ultimate Tenkaichi and Kinect, it was pretty clear that if people weren't fatigued by the yearly releases? They were at least REALLY wanting a more traditional Dragon Ball fighting game and seeing as how this one that had team battles? That sounded real cool and certainly Bandai made a big deal of that. Plus it's a DBZ game coming to the Vita meaning at least those who owned that sadly underutilized handheld who were fans could feel that system was at least a bit more vindicated. All the marketing made this out to be a fun unique fighting game... even though it's more of a MOBA at least from what some people have said... and it has no local... and it's barely an inconvenience to snap the game in half and ahem... mod your stats to give yourself a ludicrous advantage with busted upgrades which you kinda feel you need because lest you play with real people? You will be treated to some of the most unhelpful, most BRAINDEAD AI partners and gimped rewards and considering to unlock the whole roster you need to get some high ranks? That's not fun and neither is having to play babysitter to your teammates. But there's a charm to it. In fact, there's a lot here where one can see how with more polish this game could've been great. Unfortunately Bandai ensured this game would fail and now it's a bizarre oddity. This and to a degree the first Xenoverse and Ultimate Tenkaichi I'd very much categorize as being a part of that specific era Dragon Ball games where you can tell all the talk of them just being rehashes coupled with diminishing returns got to them and resulted in either fighting games being saddled with garbage that gets in the way or non-fighting games being marketed as though they were fighting games.
I argue cutting GT out of the 7th generation of consoles or gimping it heavily hurt the games around that time, and I’d argue it still hinders the series. I feel GT charachters were some of the gunner charachters in the games, and never felt out of place in the games. My arguement. Look at burst limit, look at infinite world.. Look at ragingblast look at Tenkaichi 3 which was 2 years ago.
Funny enough this game was the first dbz game i'd 100% and platinum out of many. personally from what i remember it was a crazy time to be db fan. and specifically since i played on the vita. my local friends owned it on consoles and practically ignored it with rb and rb2 as options but for the vita that was all the community had for themselves. definently a big dip from the psp era. something about the combat was that not only was it unbearably simple but it was also broken. i remember mixing the vanish/dash in the middle of combo strings and it could turn the simple combo into a large string lol and i remembered for some characters like ssj3 goku, broly, and gotenks it made them broken. GENUINELY lmao because the game wasnt built for those combos so some characters didnt benefit at all. and like i said for the vita this was the only db game you could have at the time before hacking. it led to me making connections with other players around the world like i remember playing with people from hong kong simply because i was a night owl and at that time players on the other side of the world were waking up hahaha the community would play the vs mode and turn off the team part and do 1v1 which made the combos even more broken since this game is built as a team arena game style so removing allies made it harder lol the co op side was baren even during this time because i dont think none of us cared about repeating the same old bland missions. but sadly i remember it was part of the achievements. luckly people like me in the community gained so much money in game that our builds could go and help any random newbie on co op. but even that was rare lol team based combat was new SO NEW it made me and other players abandon it long before the community itself would leave the game and just enjoy the vs part butchering the team aspect. when we vita players ignored everything the game was built on, it became a broken mess haha and that was all we had, so we played what we could and have fun lol and while i had fond memories im glad xenoverse, fighterz and sparking are here because this era for dbz games was so bad. i personally wouldnt come back hahaha
Card system was actually a super good thing about the game, all cards could be used on any character and some unique cards could work very well with very certain characters. Which resulted in you having some form of builds, like anti stagger card on Broly or Cell was essentially creating a tank that could wipe whole teams online.
Just you tbh, the two games barely have anything common except being released in the same decade. Entirely different fighting mechanics and story design too
I also felt the same way, like this, DBO and Ultimate Tenkaichi's cac story mode were the foundation for what would eventually be Xenoverse. Also, contrary to what MrRWord said, we are *not* the only two to feel this way. Not saying Xenoverse was already in mind, or that Xenoverse is directly descended from these games but when the argument against this is "different fighting mechanics and story design" as if those things cant change over time or that just because this is the case that means these games still couldnt have been inspirations for Xenoverse, I think until we get an official word on it, this little theory of ours is plenty plausible the only difference is we aren't touting our opinions as fact like some others...
If the graphics are anything to go by, then yes. The characters in both games have way too vibrant colours and look as if they're constantly dipped in oil.
It was 1 of the few DB games I had & I played it way too much. I still have my PS3 copy. I won't lie I liked the game back then especially cus I could play as SSG Goku but even I could C it was pretty repetitive. It holds a special place for the hours I spent wit it so I'll always remember that. Cool vid
Ah man when this game came out I had so much fun I feel like one of the few that’s actually enjoyed the game . Online was also a lot of fun too with friends
As someone born in 98' this was the first dragon ball product I can remember going "I wasted my money" which as a kid was soul crushing. Still played the hell out of it because it was the first game to have SSG as a playable form 😂
i think being a pretty inexperienced studio + this title was first and foremost developed for the vita and later ported to the ps3 explain alot of the graphical issues of the game. btw will you review dbz kinect, jump force or some db handheld games as well?
@@HiddenChannel Hi, Hidden. I'm here to say Thank you for sharing your experiences and thoughts on everything DBZ. I myself am a massive fan of DBZ except Dragon Ball Bio Broly, Garlic Jr, and Dragon Ball Evolution. GT is a awesome to me. Just Saiyan😅
The Kanzenshuu podcast had a nice breakthrough of the game and how the developers probably intended it to be played. ruclips.net/video/ND27KkhqDl0/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/MfPBueSxyuQ/видео.html The conclusion is basically the same as Hidden's - you can see glimpses of a nice original game, but for every fun concept the developers came up with, they hamstrung themselves with half-baked execution. JC-what-a-shame.mp4, basically
I bought this game on a very cheap discount, only because it was a collectors edition with a Goku statue. I never bothered to play the game. Heard enough about it before to not even give it a try.
Battle of Z I believe was my first DBZ game and how I experienced most of Zs story....very weird experience I gotta say. The game overall is very strange, it has such a unique atmosphere and gameplay style. It's a fine game, but not an amazing DBZ game.
7:36 What the HFIL am I looking at? Dude's at 100% power, but 105% chromosomes. I think King Cold was too cheap to get him the cyborg surgery and opted for super glue. This is what happens when Zarbon leaves you in the ship on a hot Namekian day with the windows rolled up.
Honestly this game kinda lives and dies off its co-op multiplayer, This game can be played online for free through the PS3 Emulator with friends its STUPID fun building teams and working together to maximize speed and damage.

I used to play the demo on 360 all the time as a kid. Guess how surprised I was when I later heard people HATED the full game
Nah for real I loved the demo,
You had up 4 people in one team.
I thought it was ok

The final fantasy 13 music at 7:15 smacked me with nostalgia. You should do a retrospective on it, you don’t only have to do DBZ content. 🙌🏼

this was the only exposure i had of dragon ball for about 5 years ;-;
This game will always hold a special place in my heart.❤
Same, not the best but I played it a lot on my Vita during high school. I can’t believe it’s been 10 years.
NO WAY!? IT'S FINALLY HERE! Now I know what I'm going to tell my family I'm grateful for this Thanksgiving. Plz pin.
Is it just me or is this game basically the prequel of xenoverse 1?
Just you tbh, the two games barely have anything common except being released in the same decade. Entirely different fighting mechanics and story design too
More like sequel to Legends from PS1
@MrRWord Yeah, you've got a point there, but at least the graphics look similar.

this game was so fun. I'll never forget unlocking the Beerus mission, so difficult
yay! been waiting for this one!
Glad you are excited for it!

Ah Battle of Z. Where the character models look like the old DBZ action figures from Irwin Toys
I have been binging your videos this past week and here you are with a new one 🙏
Ayy these vids always are so cool bruv
I remember this had that cool Naruto coatume
This game is not even 2GB. Wow. I wasn't expecting this retrospective! Let's go!
*sees the title* good question let's find out

This game actually had team based mechanics. Unlike xenoverse, where your team only gets in the way
I always forget about this game
Ef what anyone says battle of z was fun as fuck, fun online multi-player was the appeal and they knocked it out 💯
I agree, had lots of fun in that battle mode and joining matches to play together with people.
That bingo bit had me dying :D
8 player free for all was too fun back in the day!!!
Nice, Sonic Colors background music
Sonic games may be hit and miss but the music is always good.
@ Agreed

Dragon Ball Super is lackluster and Daima is a shameful, directionless, pointless, meaningless and insulting in my opinion.
@@HiddenChannel I also find you extremely attractive.
I remember raging at it so yeah
I forgot get over how odd this game & nice music choice really enjoyed the kh & jak x music especially this song from jak x 5:00

I forgot about this game, shovel ware
Too long of a video for me to watch, but answering your question: Yeah, it does deserve.
Though i understood its flaws, i quite enjoyed this one. Specifically the CO-OP, because Multiplayer was trash.
I can't wait for the Dokkan review

Seems like this game is basically DBZ League of Legends.
Is this like Dragon Ball Z Legends (Idainaru Dragon Ball Densetsu) from ps1? Like the secret sequel.
Can't be the only one seeing the resemblance

Awesome DBZ movie!
last I saw one of your videos I swore you had like 70k subs, what the heck happened
Really?
You're probably just associating the viewership count with subscription count
It had a cool PS Vita port...
That's about it.

Everything was annoying
You don't use your Pikachu anymore? Or Nintendo copywrite claims it?
It was a diffrent time back then😂
I personally hated this game but if anyone had fun hey more power to you no hat at all
Anyone else have the Naruto outfit in this game???
This game really was something played the demo it was fine but glad i never bought it
This game looks like Xenoverse but jank and annoying as f'. lol
Battle of Z walked so xenoverse could fly
Hi
Hello
I don't understand why TeamFourStar legit felt this game was better than Xenoverse 1 OR 2.
This era wasn’t really that good for dragon ball games tbh. That’s why people got excited at Xenoverse cause the last 2 games we got were rock paper scissors and battle of z.
Yes it does hate hate HATE this game
YES
yes. next video plz.
I didn't hate Battle of Z as much as other people. But the game was WAY too difficult for its own good. It sucked away some of the enjoyment.
Yeah man those boss fights or villian story parts were jarring
i played it on vita
Imo yes i hated this fame and i player it when it came out
rub salt into the milk 😭😭
This is my first dbz game on my psvita I loved it soooo much, this is like the only retrospective video Ive seen!! Thanks so much
Honestly, it's not great imo, but it's not the worst DBZ game. Dragon Ball Z Kinect is right there, guys.
DBZ Kinect and Ultimate Tenkaichi are both worse than this tbh
@@MrRWordnah ultimate tenkaichi is better than this
Does battle of Z really deserve a video?
Battle of z?
The camera was so bad I never got past the tutorial still better looking than xenoverse (it's the ugliest dragonball game not counting taiketsu)
Yes LOL
