Mike was a beast. At his peak he was hard for larry to beat. And that was all bird needed to know. So when he played against Mike, he always ended up playing extra hard to win. Because he knew it wasn’t gonna be easy to beat or sweep mike. He was gonna make Larry’s whole team work harder. And i loved that competion they had toward each other. Made everyone on the court play harder. Always enjoyed watching rivals play. Because it’s not a game tonight. It’s a battle to show who’s supposed to sit on the throne. And they both knew it. And the best part is that they eaned each others respect that way. And i love watching mike on defence. He was a deadly defender. I like it as much as birds ability to always know so many ways to beat you. It was all beautiful.

@@kevinlowe4953 never denied a thing. Larry and mike were both elite players in the same game. But they got that reputation in different ways. Birds body wasn’t able to outdo other players. So he had to beat them with his mind. Mike didn’t even need a strog mind. His speed and strength and coordination was usually enough to destroy the competition. If you were fast, mike was faster. If you were strong, mike was stronger. If you could jump, mike would jump higher. And he proved that. Bucket after bucket, after bucket. Same as bird. He would just use his brain to get the ball in the net any way he could. Which he proved bucket after bucket. That’s why i got so much respect for both those men. Some one said. Mike made you look slow and bird made you look stupid. And it’s 100% true. When those 2 faced off, it was always an epic battle. You could tell they both cranked it all the way up when they played against each other. Because both knew it was not gonna be an easy win. Mutual respect of each others talent. But i can never truthfully say one is better than the other, because the only thing they have in common is that they both played in the nba. And both wanted to win. They both took a completely different set of tools to the game, in order to win. So how can we compare 2 guys when they don’t even use the same tools. But they both tried their hardest to get the job done. They just have my respect. I try not to compare. Wouldn’t be right.

Watching a highlight mix is like watching a trailer and acting like you saw a film. What you don’t see in highlight mixes: picking up a ball player where he has to pass, deflections, screening two players. There are no stats or highlight films for that.
Film fanatics watch older films. Literature fans read older literature. Every succeeding generation of basketball fans seem to form opinions without a knowledge basis.

      @knocc1 5 месяцев назад +2

@mancycle1 Right! I say it all the time, especially to LeBron fanatics who love to discredit MJ. I feel LeBron is on Mt. Rushmore of basketball, but if you have NEVER seen MJ play in his prime, you wouldn't know how far ahead as a player he really is compared to everyone else.
MJ played like it was an elimination game every single night, and he never really missed any games. He never stopped moving, was quick as a cat, disruptive on defense, and efficient on offense.
Never mind how outer worldly his athleticism was. He was also completely fundamentally sound. I tell people under 30yrs old all the time that they had to be there in that time to understand what true greatness on the court was 💯

  • @venetoaward

Micheal is just incredible at what he does and has that killer mentality that very few players had in any sport. Russell, Bird, Magic, Micheal, Kobe, these 5 come to mind for me. I believe there may be players with more talent than these 5, but if you don't combine talent with mentality, there's nothing you can do to compare. As far as the "goat" conversation I never cared, it's very subjective and it depends on your personal style, culture, etc. I always laugh when people compare Lebron to Micheal tho, it's just funny. It's not about stats and it will never be.

Jordan, Bird, Magic, Kareem, Lebron my top 5 in that order (sometimes I switch out lebron for Kobe or Duncan)
Curry, Jordan, Bird, Garnett, Shaq as my starting 5 (I considerd KD over KG but KG's impact on the defensive end is too much)
Other than Jordan, the other 4 guys can play off ball (Jordan can play off ball too, but is more ball dominant), shooting, defense, post up, iso. Yea thats my squad right there.

Bird and Magic were team oriented in their play style. Passing was one of their greatest gifts. Every player plays to their strenghts. Jordan was an unstoppable force who could dominate an entire playoff series offensively by himself against certain opponents. For example, Jordan is the only player to average over 40ppg in the playoffs mutliple times. Only four other players in NBA history have done it, and each of those players only did it one time. Jordan did it five times in his career, and four of those times resulted in series victories for the Bulls. Also, Jordan did not play with gifted offensive players like Magic and Bird did. So he had to carry the offensive load every time he stepped on the floor, for basically his entire career. So teams knew they had to focus on stopping Jordan, and they still couldn't do it. Pippen was the second best offensive player the Bulls had, and Pippen only averaged 25ppg once in his playoff career while jordan was retired. So Jordan never played with another 25ppg player in the postseason. And yet Jordan STILL won six rings in six Finals appearances. That's *crazy* ! Magic said "There's Jordan and there's the rest of us". Bird said "That was God disguised as Michael Jordan", after jordan dropped 63pts on the Celtics in the postseason of '86. But that's why Jordan is the GOAT. Your favorite player(s) admired him. Today's so called GOAT is still chasing him, because he is the standard by which everyone else is measured.

Out of all of Michael's accomplishments, the one thing that will always stand out to me is, 6 championship appearances. No losses, two 3 petes with only one year in between separating the 3 because he had left basketball for a year then came back. And this big fact here. The man never played in a game 7 to win any of those championships. Nobody has ever done that before him, and nobody has ever done all those things in basketball up to this point. That's something I don't think will ever be broken. Just to win 6 championships and never had to play a game 7 to win any of them alone is something I don't think will ever be done by the same person and team.

Bro, the fact that Larry Legend is your favorite player lets me know you're a student of the game 💯.
So many of us under the age of 40 have no idea how great those players back then were and discredits them out of our own ignorance.
I was to young to watch prime Larry Bird play, but I did see MJ, Kobe, LeBron, Shaq, etc. For me, MJ is the greatest player I have ever seen in real time play, especially between 1988-1993 which is around the time I really started watching sports as a youngin. He played at full throttle from the tip off to the final buzzer. And he did it every single game. You wouldve thought every game was game 7 in the finals the way he played 😂.
Only player for me that came close to that was Kobe, and D Wade early in his career.

It amazes how many people call themselves basketball fans, but have no basic knowledge of basketball history. Not knowing why the greatest player ever was wearing the number 45 is ridiculous, There is so much footage available for people to watch and they just don’t as a kid growing up in the 80s and 90s. I watched every documentary classic game anything I get my hands on in there wasn’t a lot.

Jordan was asked or told by the coaches to score, that's all they wanted from him so he became the greatest scorer all time. Whatever was asked of him, I truly believe he would be the best at it, we want you to pass it more, the greatest passer (check out in 89 for a month he was a point gaurd, avg nearly a triple double the whole time, while still scoring over 30 ppg avg. More rebounds? The best at it. More blocks(already probably the greatest shot blocker as a guard shooting or point all time) Shit he did win the MVP, scoring title, and won DPOY in 88, while having over 200 steals and over 100 blocks as well. All that and he avg 36.x ppg for the year. He was not a human in his playing days, no cone even comes close to playing this sport, no one was in the same galaxy. I was a kid born and raised in NY, moved to LA in 1991, I was never a fan of the NBA but NO ONE was a bigger MJ fan then me. I could give a shit about the bulls honestly it was all about watching him. I recorded on VHS tapes nearly all of the bulls games from 1990 until the 98 finals.

The thing that kills me about all these MJ Bulls Mixtape reaction videos is how many times the person reacting sees a play that makes them just lose it for a second. And in that time that they're covering their face, mouth wide open in awe, or that they've turned away from the video, they missed like 3 other jaw-dropping plays. You gotta stay glued to the video of you're gonna miss so much.

I personally struggle between Jordan and bird. Yea Jordan was the greatest two player ever, but Bird just did EVERYTHING better than anyone else and I believe elevated his team more than just about any other star. Plus I feel Bird can play with ANYONE.. But cant argue with 6-0 and the highest scoring average ever.. But Bird is the oNLY player to average atleast 24/10/6 (and im not even talking about his shooting splits or defensive number yet). its a tough one for me, but its between those two guys.
