I thought the same thing as he was standing in the “bedroom” and pointing down to the shower/bathroom. Figured all he had to do was make a covered walkway/hallway to the bathroom and bingo, problem solved lol.
As long as the bathroom doesnt cause mold to the house, and if his bedroom will be as strong to stand up to bad weather like the rest of the house. It would be nice to step out and walk to bathroom, and on the other side step out to a screened in porch with a table for breakfast and coffee. But that would be three doors. Because you would want a way to get to the yard. It would also not get as hot in winter with a wood burning stove, as it would inside.
I think a bedroom would be best, but add a small stove to keep the small room warm in the winter. As well, put a doorway in the wall you have already built, and add about 5 feet out, and a couple more feet along the wall for a shower and toilet. Not sure anymore if you have windows along that wall. The water for the shower can be prewarmed on the stove in winter, and then pumped into an overhead container. For the toilet, when I was deployed in the late 60's, our outhouse had 50 gallon drums cut in half. Every couple days, the half drums were pulled out, gas was poured into the half drum, and then the waste was burned to ash. With the rocks you have, I'm not sure a drain field could be possible, plus the water situation is a problem. Make sure the smoke goes away from the house. For your water, cut both ends out of a 50 gallon drum. At the stream, dig a hole deep enough to put the drum sleeve into the hole, put a well pump in the drum, cover the drum opening with a wire mesh, and run the pipe up the hill. In the cold weather, drain back the pipe. PEX pipe is flexible, and won't split easily when frozen. I think by winter, you will be snug in your tiny home.
You need to go old school with the popcorn. Just put some oil in the bottom of the dutch oven & put some popcorn kernels in there. Should pop a lot faster than the microwave bag,
It’s great seeing you get back to basics again, I know its nice to have someone around but in the long run it slows you down and deviates from the task or tasks at hand. Melissa had her own agenda and I truly respect that. So lets get it done Jason.
Make it into a bedroom/office area. You can put a roof over the shower area and then it is good for winter ❄️. I would then make an enclosed area (like an outhouse) for your compostable toilet outside.
The hot steam builds up, and is what causes the popcorn kernels to pop. Which is why it didn’t want to pop when the lid was off. Every time you took the lid off it let the steam out.😜
Bedroom! Shawn James @My Self Reliance has an off-grid cabin with a separate building for bathroom/sauna/laundry (with manual washing machine) with a wood stove. It is totally awesome!
Bedroom and add a bathroom right on the back side of that first wall you put up maybe put a doorway in that first wall you put up ,out side bathroom/shower or turn it in to a shed to put your tool ECT in it .
Bring it on up to cover the full end of the house and make both, that way you don't have to keep adding on and you will regret not having a bathroom inside in the winter.
I say both. Extend the floor out to the front ,then put the bathroom where you were going to place it. Move the windows to the new outside walls. You can work out the rest. Good Luck!
Back in the day before microwaves (when I was a child), my parents made popcorn on the stove top. They would put a little oil in the pan, put in the popcorn, cover the pan, and shake it back and forth as it heated up. You could do that with your cast iron frying pan and the lid. Just open the microwave bag and dump it out into the pan. Also, my vote is for a bedroom. Living tiny doesn't have to mean living cramped. ;)
A Bedroom/Office area sounds great to me ...A real bed and you can set up a dedicated area for your computer, to relax and do your editing ... I'm sure you'll come up with the alternative idea for where or how you'll do the bathroom and you still have time for that before winter sets in.
Make it a bedroom you already have a bathroom. Just close it in for the winter it’s big enough that you could put a bathtub in. It’s always nice to have a bedroom when company comes to visit.
My thoughts: make it a bedroom, Keep on going along the outside wall of the tiny house for the bathroom. Relocate and close in those two windows to the new build walls. Just because you are off grid doesn't mean you can't be comfortable.
Jason, love the new addition. I think you should continue that deck forward so you'll have a bedroom and bath on the same level. You can pop out those two windows on that side to use on the wall that would be your bedroom. Come winter it will be easier to heat all 3 rooms then having to come up with a solution to heat that outside shower, not to mention who wants to go out in the cold to bathe. And I believe you'll be happy with the extra room you'll have in the main living space. Also you'll be expanding the roof line which will allow for more rain water collection. Good luck and I'm sure what ever you decide will be amazing. 😊
The Crockers at least you know if the pan is dirty you could do the kernels inside the paper. Ive also seen kernels in heavy duty tinfoil with butter on a open fire!
You're doing great on the Tiny House. My opinion would be to extend the back room all the way across the back. Then it could be a bedroom with bathroom. The outside shower is great for warm weather, but you'll freeze your butt off in the winter in northeast Oklahoma.
Larry Dickens Good idea. That tiny house needs more room especially if he is going to live there for any length of time. Do it right the first time so you won’t have to go back and make additions. It’s a lovely tiny house. I wish he had a helper to help with his build before winter.
You should make it a bedroom and have a covered walkway to the bathroom were it's at right now... Maybe have the walls to the bathroom from the bedroom be of frosted plexi glass to let light in to make it really airy..
Call in some of your friends for help and do a cook out as payment. It will do you good to have true friends around that have your best interests at heart. God Bless from Texas
Of course it has to be a bedroom..Your shower room can easily be upgraded later on.start now with solar roof. Power enough for your blog work and a freezer
Jason, Great idea to make that a bedroom and a place for your desk to work at. Maybe make a covered walkway to the shower area and put your toilet and sink out there and roof over it all....it is a work in progress so you could still make changes as you go. looking good!!
If you are planning on living there year round I think I'd go with an indoor bathroom for comfort and convenience . A bedroom could be added next year when you aren't pressed for time.
Next time, just open the bag and empty it out into a pot with a lid on it and it will cook much better. Or if you really want to go old school, just buy popcorn (not in the bag) a little oil and do the same thing. Put a little oil in the bottom of the pan, put the pan on the fire. Put one kernel of popcorn in the pan and cover it up When it popps add the rest and keep shakin it. BE CAREFUL 1/8 th cup of popcorn raw makes about that dutch oven full. You can change the flavor of your popcorn by the oil you use. Anything works. Bacon greese is really yummy. God bless, Good job on the joists and the progress on the bathroom.
Bedroom, bedroom, bedroom!! You can close in outdoor shower for the winter and next summer put a bathroom beside bedroom. Make your home nice and square which takes you back to original layout. You are doing an amazing job and most definitely deserve a pat on back.
Love that idea to move the shower house over to meet the bedroom and have a bath and shower right beside your bedroom. Could close it in and put those clear fiberglass panels for roof to allow sunlight in. Add a couple of windows for a cross breeze in the summer.
I would definitely turn it into a bedroom and keep the bathroom outdoors as it will either be compost (bucket or hole). I wouldn't want the smell & the poop bugs in the house. So you have to take a couple of steps to get to the bathroom...no biggie. You can always enclose the shower and you can even make a sauna room (saw it on another off-grid channel). My vote is for the BEDROOM. The area where the shed was going to go is so sunny....you should get some solar panels and harness the sun for power. Dig a ditch and run the wires into your home.
I think thats the best option with the least amount of work. That outside shower is big enough to fit a toilet in I quess. And if it gets to cold u can always put a roof on it :)
Go bedroom. Love all the suggestions especially making a walkway to the shower you have and put in a compost toilet and enclose it all. Add some source of heat for water and heating the room.
Bedroom, definitely. You could put a vanity and compost toilet in one corner.of the bedroom. The increased living area in the rest of the house would be a definite plus, and a sleeper sofa in the living area, would let you accommodate a guest! Maybe even enclose the shower before winter, with a small wood stove for a warm winter shower, and a place for your compost toilet in the summer!
That's a real big bathroom...but a perfect bedroom. Your gut told you to make it a bedroom, that way your living room could actually be a living room. Plus having a couch in the living room, allows for a guest to have somewhere to sleep. You can add a bathroom. Why not keep adding on? What's wrong with that. Don't doubt your creativity. God is putting ideas in your heart and head for a reason.....run with it!!! Best of luck.
Take it from an old gal of 77. You need a separate bedroom. Combined your bathroom with your shower. Growing up we had an out house. Cold in the winter but we survived. Love what you are doing with your cabin can’t wait to see all of your animals.
Make it a bedroom and finish off the shower into a full bathroom. You could build a walk to the shower area and even cover it so it is easier to get to in the winter. Good luck
Make it a bedroom! Then enclose the shower and add a bathroom to it so it can be like a campground showerhouse with a walkway. That way if you do ever build others tiny houses/guest houses they can easily share your shower house without going in your house.
I personally like the idea of a bedroom. You might be more rested in that area. I would put a bathroom were you where standing. Be nice in the winter months.
@@TheCrockers awesome I can't wait I've been a sub since before the 100 day ranch challenge.. Was supper excited when you decided to move and go off grid.. Can't wait to see what's next..
Try pouring the corn kernels in the pot with a bit of butter and lid and it should pop real fast. Just stop before it burns! I love that your back home and excited to move on!
100% bedroom, you will spend more time in a bedroom than a bathroom. Convert the shower room you already have. Just started watching your channel. Loving it 🙂
Bedroom! Finish the deck add bathroom also. Move the window to bedroom. We have a 22 by 24 cabin. It is one bedroom 10 by 10 with small bathroom off it. The rest is open kitchen/living room. You will be glad to have the both this winter.
just a thought for water......how about a small trailer to mount you ibc tote on. then you can travel to the sawyers or wherever to get water and just back the trailer in close to the house...mike from maine
Yes 👍 Bedroom is a good idea !!! Now That being a bedroom, you will come up with a better idea for a bathroom you will have some time to think about it !!!!!!
I been wondering where you were gonna sleep! So I think definitely a bedroom!! Then a small toilet room on the side. You already have the shower so your good there.
Bedroom. I think you will enjoy the extra room and you already have the bathroom started with the shower space. You are doing a great job. Can’t wait to see how your animals like their new home.
I know your plan was tiny, Go with bedroom and desk with closet. And add a hallway out to shower house for adding a bathroom. Like you said you can always heat the bath and shower house.
I like the bedroom idea, but we are not the ones building and living there. You will know once you have the other walls up and start closing it in. Keep up the great progress and you will be able to be able to finally relax and enjoy your home. Much love from OHIO ❤️❣️❣️❤️
If you use packaged popcorn and not the bags you can pop it on the fire in the dutch oven, you'll need some oil (2 tablespoons or so) a potholder or wash cloth so you can push the pot after it starts popping, if you don't move the pot around the pop corn will burn. I say a bathroom, you can make a spot to sleep almost anywhere. Maybe even a small loft for a bed.
Bedroom with an extension to a Bathroom w/ pocket doors from the bedroom and one from the main part of the house. That way you have access from both too the bath, and you're freeing up your Kitchen & Living area just a little bit.
Definitely a bedroom we could always find some type of top for your current shower and then take a propane heater in there when it’s cold maybe a top that you can remove during the summer
Bedroom is my vote, and your idea for bathroom is great just make a hallway to connect the 2. You're doing great very proud of you and your positive attitude. Best always Rusty
Jason, you have amazing ideas and to have a bedroom with a place to work from your computer w/o interruption especially if you have company bc they can crash on the couch away from you! You have quite a bit of area to still add a bathroom which will be a bonus for the winter and still keep the shower house for the summer or figure out how to tie it into the backside of the house!! You're always thinking of great ideas and I know that you are going to have a banger of an idea and be thrilled with your decision. As long as you have your Positivity as strong as you do, there's no stopping you!!! There's so many ppl that are proud of you and your work that you have done that you should look at the options and go for it!! God's Blessings for you and your strong Powerful Positivity!!!!
I agree, build a bedroom first then later on a bathroom. You will be working your butt off as an off grid person. A nice warm bath/shower plus a comfortable bed would help regenerate you throughout the 4 seasons. Isn't that one of the benefits of taking a motel room for a day and night? Just thinking out loud. You may not have a significant other to comfort you...but those faithful fur babies are there for you every day and they don't ask for a lot.
Bedroom, because you can always build a old fashioned outhouse beside the shower. I like the less talking and more working. Keep it up and I’ll keep watching!!!! I get bored and don’t watch when you talk talk talk and you’re not getting any work done! Because I’m a firm believer in less talk and more work gets things accomplished. But I’m liking this new work more and talk less thing you got going on. 🤔
You should never apologise for living your life Jason. Things happen that challenge us and other things happen that are blessings - we take the good with the bad and make the most of it! Your time with Jared will have done you good I’m sure and now you know that you’re back doing a solo build, you can get stuck in. Can’t wait to see what you decide to do with bed/bathroom - if the space can take a full length bed then that would be my choice - you know better than most that a good nights sleep is essential! Take care and thanks for sharing your libelled with us x
Hi I’m not completely sure but maybe this isn’t permanent and this is just until he can actually build a house with really nice materials but don’t quote me on it!
Turn it into a bedroom. Then build a covered walkway over to the shower shed. You can install hooks to hang towels and clothes inside the walkway.
I like that idea.
^^^perfect plan!!!

Bedroom you can always make the shower into a bathroom.
I know your plan was tiny,
Go with bedroom and desk with closet. And add a hallway out to shower house for adding a bathroom.
Like you said you can always heat the bath and shower house.
Bedroom. With all your dogs you will need the floor space in the winter.
I like the bedroom idea, but we are not the ones building and living there. You will know once you have the other walls up and start closing it in. Keep up the great progress and you will be able to be able to finally relax and enjoy your home. Much love from OHIO ❤️❣️❣️❤️
Will you be able to put a door on the goat shed so when it snows they can stay warm?
If you use packaged popcorn and not the bags you can pop it on the fire in the dutch oven, you'll need some oil (2 tablespoons or so) a potholder or wash cloth so you can push the pot after it starts popping, if you don't move the pot around the pop corn will burn. I say a bathroom, you can make a spot to sleep almost anywhere. Maybe even a small loft for a bed.
Bedroom. Then you will have a place for Jared when he comes.
Jared needs to rough it out in the woods haha nice seeing your comment!
Bedroom with an extension to a Bathroom w/ pocket doors from the bedroom and one from the main part of the house. That way you have access from both too the bath, and you're freeing up your Kitchen & Living area just a little bit.
Popcorn in a dutch oven... Would that be keeping it dutch then 😂😂😂
LOL
No that would be Popping It Dutch! Lol 😂
Lol
Definitely a bedroom we could always find some type of top for your current shower and then take a propane heater in there when it’s cold maybe a top that you can remove during the summer
A bedroom would be nice.
Enclose the bathroom. Add a couple clear panels on the roof for lighting to come through.... Ultimately only you can decide.
The bedroom would help with floorspace and flow.
You could put clear panels around the top of your shower for natural light.......
Excited to see what you will do.
Bedroom is my vote, and your idea for bathroom is great just make a hallway to connect the 2. You're doing great very proud of you and your positive attitude. Best always Rusty
Jason put a garage , storage and workshop in that area that was supposed to be for the she-shack ! :-)
Best idea I've read so far.
Bedroom
I love to watch you build things sweetie blessings your some wonderful guy ♥️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I have to agree but love you Jason!!
Dont you think that those wooden "legs" directly to the ground Will rotten?
Hi I’m not completely sure but maybe this isn’t permanent and this is just until he can actually build a house with really nice materials but don’t quote me on it!
Bedroom! Your going to need it for all you brought home. I grew up without inside plumbing. Part of living in the wild👍🥰
Can you fix the shower some how to close up during winter and open in the summer? I don't know how you would do it, but it may work.
I love the music. I could listen to it all day and all night.
