Twenty third scan completed, brilliant staff, Phlebotomist was spot on, first go, no problems with getting a cannula in. Phantom 4 is exagerating 1/16 in diameter and 2 inches long is nearer the mark. Just got to wait for the results now. Thoroughly recommend the staff at Derriford Hospitial. Even had the same scanner as on the video.

Going for my twenty third CT Scan tomorrow, 28th April 2015. Nothing to it really, The only difficult thing is getting a cannula (venflon) installed in you as some people like me have veins that are hard to find.
A little tip, keep your hands and arms nice and warm as it helps with the finding of the vein.

+KingWhiskers1 so I am going to get my very first and only one ever and I get nervous easily due to being in Hospital due to a broken back in two places causing a Spinal cord injury at age 17, years later a carjacking witch caused a Brain injury! I will be getting dye in me but can you please explain exactly how this is done?, an IV I was told but not the detailed explanation I would of liked!!!, thanks

An IV is when they put a cannula into a vein often called a Ventflon cannula. Ventfon is a manufacturers name of a cannula. Basically it is a needle that has a flexible tube over it, the needle and tube are pushed into the vein, the needle is removed leaving the tube that is taped to the skin and there is an access port on the end of the tube to attach an IV (Intravenous drip) to or to give drugs to you without having to inject you multiple times.
Google Ventflon cannula and look up cannula on Wikipedia and Intravenous therapy and you will get the picture.
There is nothing to worry about. The nurses doing this are very proficient and do it lot of times a day. My case is a little different as I spent 7 months in hospital in 2012 and had hundreds of blood tests and drips attached to me and eventually your veins become scarred and difficult to access but you should be fine.

well thanks a lot! then you are one of the people I pray about in Hospitals that can't get out!!! because going threw Spinal surgery due to a Broken back at age 17 learning to walk again only on my heals since my calf mussel's did not fully come back, and later in life getting carjacked and ran over and over by a Gang member causing me a Brain injury many years recovery!!!, I feel for people in my same situation as I am free now living back at my home able to take care of myself!!! I believe that God was with me on both of my major injury's!!! and I was just wondering about this one just how the dye was injected but I believe I have had that done on a Heart stress test before and there was nothing to it so thanks for you're reply I pray that you're life is much better now for you!!!

+ Shane Dahlke Thanks Shane I am much better now but 2012 was not a good year for me. I had 14" of bowel removed for bowel cancer then another 4" of bowel removed after necrosis set in and had many complications and infections. I am lucky to be here as I was declared borderline for surgery and was at stage 3.5 going on to 4 which is terminal in bowel cancer terms.
I am now cancer free at the moment but it has taken its toll on me as the chemo and operations have left me with bad side effects but I get by with help from my wife and daughter. I am not fit enough to work but am happy to still be here as it could have been so easily the other way.
I now have three vessel heart disease following the scan but it is under control with drugs.
I hope that your scan comes out OK and is no problem for you as you seem to have had more than your fair share of them.

well I'm happy you're doing better in ways but sorry to here that you're not in other ways? I have extreme guilt because my Heart disease is from harsh drug use for many years!!! I've been clean for almost a month now after a relapse and after learning about this I have, I will never ever touch that Evil drug ever again!!!!! so many people get this problem without being a drug addict! and so I'm very shameful of myself but that's just what happened is I was hooked and you have know control over yourself when that stuff hijacks you're mind!!!!! I pray for you to get threw thing's and you have a very good Wife to of stuck with you threw it all and is still there for you!!! I can't remember some thing's about my Brain injury of course!!! they put me threw a comma to repair one of my eye sockets that mabie a tier ran over??? I had many injury's I will never know how I got them? and many different surgery's I will never remember?, but its much better than having any type of cancer!!!!! I will get checked 10 years sooner than I'm supposed to for the colon cancer and or polyps is what my Doctor told me with my family history!!! one of my girl cousins had colon cancer and She's a few years younger than me??? please be well and thank you!!!

Have much radiation is a patient subjected to during an average CT scan?
And what exactly is contained in the x-ray dye? Anything that has those kind of side effects must not be good for the body.

I have a question regarding when a CT scan is performed. Is it necessary for the gantry to rotate around the body to get the images required. or can your body be scanned by just having the body be moved back and forth into the machine while holding your breath .Also is there a light that comes on.
