It is important to know your score. My wife was never considered at risk. Had her first test in 2018 age 65. Very high score 529. Surprize! We took action. I'm the one who had diabetes for 20 years managed with a very low carb diet. My score in 2018 was 72. Good for a diabetic. You never know.

I was pre-diabetic with elevated LDL cholesterol. Switched to a strict high-fat/low-carb diet at 59. I had a CAC score of 0 (at 59) before the diet change. I'm now 62 and just had a repeat CAC. I saw one small spot with calcium (RCA), waiting to get the score from the Radiologist. I suspect my HF condition won't safely permit me to continue on a HFLC diet, unfortunately, because all other Lipid panel markers and A1C are excellent. Hopefully my HF situation is unique, I'm still not confident LDL is the root cause for my calcium signature but I have no other obvioius explanation besides my increased age.

I find it amazing that the arteries necessary to maintain life (providing the beating heart with its own blood supply) are some of the smallest in the body!

Thanks for the explanation. I just received a CAC score using the Agatston method of 7.5. Is this "7.5" the calcium score itself? (I read online that a score of 100-300 indicate moderate risk, above 300 is higher risk, etc).

Thank you for analyzing, was very helpful. I am 65 years old and my LDL cholesterol is 132 I just did the calcium score and was 18 and my cardiologist wants to put me on Staten. I refuse to take it. The cardiologist told me you can't bring down your score unless you take the medicine. I don't believe him. What are you recommend

They're not always the smallest. Especially if they receive plenty of nitric oxide, thru adequate amounts of dietary arginine ( found in beans ). Then they will dilate, to allow much more blood to pass through. And the nitric oxide, will also 'grease the pipes'.
This dietary pattern, may not be for everyone, but unlike my father, I plan to die with an absolutely pristine cardiovascular system.

Warren, what beans, exactly, do you suggest eating? There's so many! What's the best one?

I’m a 50-year old, overweight female with mild high blood pressure (130/90). My total cholesterol is very high, 298, with my LDL being 188 of that. I recently had a cardiac CT scan and angiogram and was told my cardiac calcium score is 0. So if high cholesterol can cause blockages, how is it possible that I have absolutely no plaque in my arteries? I just don’t understand the correlation, or why there doesn’t seem to be one.

Coronary artery diseased is mainly caused by high insulin levels such as in insulin resistance and diabetes. Avoid these with a very low carb diet. I have managed my diabetes for 24 years this way. My score 73 at age 64. Very good for an old diabetic. Your 0 is just normal for age 50. Triglyceride level is more important than cholesterol. High levels indicate insulin resistance/diabetes.

Take vitamin K2MK7, beet root for nitric oxide, and D3. I eat a high fat diet with Keto and take these vitamins. My cardiologist flipped when he saw my cholesterol numbers, and insisted I take a statin, and get a coronary ct scan. I told him no way on the statin, and took the test. He was shocked my score was 0. He said I didn't need a statin after all.

My score was 67 in 2019 and now in 2021 it is 49. Dr wanted to put my on a statin, I refused. I too am on somewhat of a keto but not as much fat but it’s all good fat. Funny, they blame red meat for heart disease and I haven’t had any red meat or mammal since 2005.

The best way to reverse this in most people it to eat a ketogenic diet along with Vit D 3, and Vit K 2. It will take years but it can be reversed.
