Fishing Bobber Problem, The World Needs Your Help

  • Possibly one of the most popular fishing floats on the market today has a major design flaw. How do you get the line to stay on the float that is slotted? Well actually, how do you keep the line from coming out of the groove in the bobber? This is a very frustrating problem that I've never been able to come up with an easy solution for. I specifically made this video in hopes of you helping me and the entire fishing community around the world learn how to secure this slotted style fishing cork, floating bobber so that the line doesn't come out.
Here are three ideas I present in this video:
    1. Using Duct Tape, tear off two thin strips and wrap the top and bottom of the cork to ensure that the line doesn't come out of the slot.
    2. Wrap the line around the top of the plunger binding style stick at the top and push it firmly into the bobber causing the wraps to bind in the foam.
    3. Pass the fishing line through the slot twice around and then insert the securing stick.
None of the above ideas really work effectively. So please take a few moments to share your solution to this age old problem.

I may make a follow up video showing some of the ideas for attaching a grooved fishing bobber to the line. It's a little difficult to figure out some of the securing methods people have mentioned in the comments section, but I think it would be fun to try some of the different ways people have suggested.

At 73 and having fished since since 1952. .. I never go anywhere without a few little items in my tackle box...one is pipe cleaners...and Two is rubber bands....in this case the rubber bands you want are at the Dollar Tree stores etc. And they are tiny black rubber bands that are made to hold hold dreadlocks as far as I can tell..they barely slip loosely over one finger but they stretch like crazy and you get about 200 of them for a buck...put one a quarter inch from the top of you float and another a quarter inch from the bottom....I actually use them to put around plastic bugs and mice and lizards from the toy dept to hold my no.1 and 1/0 and larger hooks...I catch as many large bass on leftover Halloween plastic spiders as most guys do on $7 lures....with age comes knowledge and with knowledge comes wisdom..

thread line through the green tube ...
Green tube is now fixed on the line.
the green tube is designed to stay on the line .
now the float bobber can be taken off and on the green tube via the slit in the bobber .
that's the purpose of this float.

If I were having such a problem I'd just add the rubber stops and use it as a slip float, only takes a few seconds to retie a knot.I use it that way a lot because I don't want to try and cast 6-40' of line at the end of the rod.
I leave the stop on the line so at any time I want to float it it's already there.I'll also add another stop below so if I snag and have to break the line I can usually get the float back even though I've lost the hook and weight. For a piece of cheap foam a float is pretty expensive.

I imagine you can just use fishing line or a rubber band to tie it to the top and bottom of the plunger. Even cheap dollar store zip ties.
Like you set it up as normal snip a extra piece of line and tie it to the top part of the plunger so the line is anchored to the plunger in place.

  • @fishermansdream36

OK JC what you do is do you get a paper clip you cut two pieces and you bend one part like a little handle or you stick it through one part of the Styrofoam through the other on the top and on the bottom and that will help keep the line from slipping through and when you wanna do something else you can just slide one out put it line back through again and then slide it back in or toothpick but I think a paperclip would work pretty good.

  • @504doe

I figured it long ago...I use 80lb mono and crimp a swivel on the top and a costlock on the other and reverse on others when I want to fish deeper the lock is on bottom but if I want the bait closer to the surface I put the lock on top and put maybe a wire leader from it...it's the closest I've come to removable access you can actually clip the bobber to the line I've done it...but in times past its not hard to slip the line through the plastic retainer and retie it if you want to change it up when you fish it's virtually not a problem...things happen...you break off...you get snagged etc... it's all in the game...that's why we have several Knotts forged in our memories lol

Drill 1 small hole all the way through both the top and the bottom of the green stick about 1/2 inch from each end. Next place the green stick where you want to attach it to your line. Make a loop with the line at the top of the green stick and thread it through the hole and then over the end, pull snug. Run the line down to the bottom end and repeat the step. Grab the float and run the line through it so you can pull the bottom end of the stick through the top of the float and all the way through. Push the top of the green stick through until it’s seated.
Another variation is not to drill but just to wrap your line spiraling down the shaft of the green stick from top to bottom. Then load and pull the green stick through the float similar to the other variation. I believe this variation is most likely the way it should naturally be done.

Drill two holes in the green stick. Feed line into the green stick like you were using it as a slip cork. Run line out of first drilled hole that's near the top and run line down the outside of green stick until you get close to the bottom where the second hole is drilled then feed line back into the green stick and pull put the end of green stick.

I have more of a problem with the hole being too big for the stick after several on/offs of the line. The stick no longer pins the line against the styrofoam well enough (especially with braid) and what started out at 3 foot depth winds up at 2 foot depth after several casts. I like the golf tee idea suggested by Smokey Wilson Fishing......have to try that.

Surgical tubing, you're going to want two pieces of surgical tubing the top one you'll want about a half an inch long and the bottom one you'll wants about an inch long. Flip both pieces of surgical tubing over the swivel and onto your line and now you simply set the bobber where you wanted and put the surgical tubing over the stick

Easiest way to address the float problem is to first remove the center post from the float, then, second, use a section of wire crimped or haywire twisted to a barrel swivel on the top end of the floats center post which is then run down into the center post to another barrel swivel at the bottom of the post secured in the same way. Next, run the end of your main line through the top barrel swivel, next, while holding the line off to the side, push the bottom of the post to the bottom of the float (not to hard, you want it a bit loose). Then, run your line from the top barrel swivel which you’ve been holding off to the side, down along the slit in the float and out through the bottom barrel swivel. Now you can gently twist your line around the post several times by turning the post so the line can’t come out of the slit (unlikely), but more importantly, so the line stays tight between the post and the float. Seat the post firmly the rest of the way in the float and your done.
Hope this solves the problem for you!
