I would like to say that when America gets involved ( whether with an agenda or not ), people do say, " Why are they involved? " However when the USA does NOT get involved, people ask " Why have the the americans not acted" . Double edged sword.

American here. I think the sentiment is the same between Americans and non Americans on friendly terms with America. On one hand, yes America is too involved. On the other hand, it’s nice having the means to put fires out as they spring up. As you said, if NZ got in a bind, who do you call? Now for non-friendly nations, they hate it (looking at you Russia). China talks a big game but 90% of their economy is dependent on access to ours.
Not sure I can get behind everything said here. Looking at what wars you mentioned (basically all of ours since WW2) all of them can be justified save one. Korea was the successful defense of a democracy from communism, Vietnam the unsuccessful defense of democracy. Iraq 1 was all about the liberation or Kuwait and protecting the worlds oil supply. Afghanistan was more about Al Qaeda than the country and that was successful on principle. Iraq 2…. I have no idea. The notion that it doesn’t touch day to day American lives is also false. Yes we win by fighting someplace else that’s not a secret, but there is still a price to pay for the families of those who don’t come home. Or the time lost for the ones that do. During the Cold War, as stated in the video, some dictators were propped up as a means to counter a similar regime propped up by the then Soviet Union. After the Soviet collapse, many of those dictators were brought down. The US could withdraw entirely from the world sure. Even economically courtesy of that blessed geography granting nearly unlimited natural resources, food, and cheap transportation of goods (Mississippi River system). Some argue that we should do that once more as the need to be a global super power really doesn’t exist and the cost is extreme. No more foreign aid, no more foreign wars, no more trade outside our own hemisphere.
@@RG-un2vl I would agree with what you say about our CIA type operations propping up dictators or toppling governments that lead to even worse problems down the line and sometimes war. Though many Americans do truly believe in "the cause" we never fight wars for this reason, we fight wars like any other nation because it is in our best interests to do so, be it for economic or strategic reasons. I personal am very fond of returning to neutrality outside of the Americas. There is nothing wrong with trade, we have always traded with the world, but trade outside the Americas should not be set up in a globalist way. We should try to set up and American trade union that would seek to "globalize" the Americas and just do old fashion regular non globalizing trade with the rest of the world and maintain neutrality in non American wars. The problem this cannot be done because is we picked a side in ww1, against the will of almost all the citizens, and it has entangled us in millennia of hatred and rivalry. No offense to our allies, they have wonderful cultures and great nations, but most of them would fall within a few decades of our withdraw. Then, the world would be vastly controlled by our rivals who have good motive to seek our destruction rather then leave us to live our lives in the Americas who, over the centuries could become powerful enough to destroy us if we allow a few massive nations to form out of our current fragmented world by pulling out. We are stuck in an inescapable situation that has caused massive cracks in the foundations of our republic, but this is how things are and we cant undo the past. Call me what you like for saying this but we ARE the masters of the world and it has never been ruled with a lighter hand. If the romans where in our position after ww2 they would have ruled the planet utterly and pillaged any who resisted, same for the Scythians, the Babylonians, the British and even the Persians, who before us by far had been the most benevolent nation to rule the world. I do not know much about eastern history, but from what I do know about Chinese history back when they ruled their world I'd have no dought in my mind they would have too. I know even less of Indian history but based purely off reputation I would say they they are the only one that could be argued would not have. The Spanish American war proved America has no desire to conquer and rule an empire, but having made enemies we must act on the global stage to prevent them from building massive empire of their own. Minor powers are treated by major powers as they always have been, be it as trade partners malevolent or benign to boost ones economy putting it in a better position should war come with other major powers that could truly harm it, allies to provided martial support should such a war break out often through conquering then setting up a government that supports yours (at least most of ours are CIA ops and drastically reduce the violence and death required), or flat out conquest for strategic and economic benefits again so your nation is stronger and better prepared for the next dangerous enemy. America will fall to our enemies, every victory we have through good or bad methods delays that moment. That is the ultimate purpose of any government to keep the people alive and the nation intact, even it that means killing tens of millions of your own like in communism. The question is will it be a decade, a century, or a millennia. Persia was so lenient of a ruler because it came after the Scythians who had spent generations terrorizing people into obedience then sacking them even if they were loyal, but when alexander took them out his successor states ruled through might alone. America can be lenient because we were the alternative to Nazis and Japs whom I consider our closest ally today. Whether you think they could have ever won is irrelevant, the people at the time did. When America falls the only way the next master can keep their empire together after such a lenient hand is by the opposite and we live in a technological age in which one bureaucracy could control the entire planet utterly and establish a technological feudalism. Think of the risk of invasion and manstealing every nation has always had omnipresent, even powerful states such as the romans feared the Gauls then the East then the Germans, and everybody no matter how strong feared the step. Then think of the Pax Americana and the Great Peace that you and your parents where likely born into and how comparatively we have had to do incredibly few evils to maintain our throne and keep vast peace across the globe without having to truly rule over it. Then decide whether or not you want America to stay at at the top of the food chain doing what we must do. I hate it and curse any member of our administration that gave loans to the allies in ww1 making it so we had no choice but to join the war when they were gonna lose, putting us in this situation. We could have been the eternal neutral too economically powerful for anyone to bother fighting and with few grudges for any nation to have a reason to apart from greed. I apologies for the length, this point can not be properly made in few sentences without just sounding like ha ha we rule the world, suck it. Personally I thing the greatest risk to the peace is the degradation of our democratic republic and the infighting we have seen over the past few decades but particularly these last few years. Russia and China are great powers but they are nothing compared to use but if we keep going down the path we have been, china can become a true rival by the end of the century making a world war incredibly likely.

Nadine's comment is the exact thing that makes the whole situation so incredibly difficult. Most people from the USA would probably want us to stay out of everyone's problems. Except the second that the real big problems come up, people expect and want the USA to help. its incredibly tough when most problems stem from corrupt governments, oppressive rulers, money and religion. or all of the above in some cases.

As an American.. I appreciate the respect and love our Country gets and the well deserved military respect. That said, I get the isolationist idea that we don't need to be the police of every place at all times. We, as a country, get so much hate, while trying to help, at the cost of ourselves.. myself, a taxpayer. It would be nice to see other countries try to handle their own business and all the illegal immigration limited. We have immigration and constitutional laws for a reason. Not saying I want US to step out completely, but I feel like our country has become a parent to other countries.. we pay for everything but also take all the blame.
As an American this is a constant debate. It feels like we can’t win cause people will hate us if we intervene, but if we don’t they’ll say why aren’t you helping if you have the capability to help. Sometimes I wish we would return to an isolationist mindset.
A big part of it in terms of our power is also how blessed a country we are geographically which has allowed us to develop into the economic superpower we are. It's a big longer but if you guys take recommendations, I think, minus some minor quibbles in terms of how it's framed, Real Life Lore's video titled "How Geography Made The US Ridiculously OP" does a great job in showing how our resources and geography are perfectly suited for global power.

I live in New Hampshire right by Bretton Woods. That hotel is called the Mt Washington resort and it’s beautiful. It is at the base of one of then most treacherous mountains in the world. They had the highest recorded wind speed in history there. It’s brutal in the winter.
A large part of the post-WWII American work was a massive influx of cash to rebuild Europe. Also NZ is far from isolated from this. As a member of the Five Eyes it, along with Australia, Canada, the UK and United States all share intelligence on an absolutely massive scale.
The United States, up until World War2, we were isolationists. But Europe had dragged us into two world wars. So the United States took a proactive stance to World politics and influence. That's when we started building military bases all over the world.
Yes America was isolationist other than its attempts at buying Iceland, Greenland, going to war with Spain over Cuba, interfering a lot in Central America, taking over the Philippines, Hawaii, buying Alaska, the Virgin Islands, etc. but other than that totally isolationist!
Not just politics but also tools that help (B-29 bomber, P-51 Mustang, Sherman Tank or better medicine )and weapons improvements through the war and to this day and every day in the future. Ya there's lots of people that don't like us Americans. Soure we had our own dark past and got to have someone in politics to keep the peace between the countrys

(sorry for being long but it needed to be said)these comments ^ don't know about ALL of the US military bases along every coast(including Hawaii and Alaska) thinking it is possible to invade the US, did you forget about Canada and and Mexico? they literally wouldn't let that slide/happen, PLUS the US has the largest Navy and Air force out of all countries, multiple countries have agreed that fucking with America's boat is a big no no- you've poked the bear, they would have entered WW2 anyways due to Germany being a major issue at that time, Japan was just a bigger reason to join, they touched the boats and subs but didn't touch the supply? yards on the island, people can say that America didn't need to join both WW1 and 2, yet they did due to Germany BOTH times, Japan was just another country that decided that it was gonna be nice to attack America since Germany wasn't attacking America(or try to this time) however, the cold war? was just bound to happen because of Capitalism and Communism already being two issues after the war, yes, it almost caused Nuclear warfare and actually there is still a threat of it just not as much as there was, US dropped two atomic bombs on Japan and i guess the Soviets decided they wanna try to one up the US on bombs(then the space race) no matter what happened in the world since the US became a country, someone would(almost) always decide to or try to poke the sleeping bear, even at this moment in the world with all these wars going on, WW3 is most likely closer than people think just because of the newly(recent) threat against Poland, yes, NATO is a thing and has been for MANY years, yet European countries are getting ready for it and let me tell you this: AT LEAST IT WON'T BE GERMANY STARTING THIS TIME(even though the first time was Austria-Hungary and people blame Germany for it) honestly? people don't remember that the US even before WW1 wanted to stay neutral, guess that didn't last long, they tried to be neutral again after WW1, that also didn't last long(20? years) after WW2 the US honestly just said: hey since we keep getting dragged into wars let's just not be neutral anymore and build a bigger better military(which is now the strongest no matter what someone says) in the 1980's Iran decided they wanted to poke the bear's boats, that didn't end well, they lost half their navy in said process in 2018(also knowns as Red February) Syria and Russia(yes Russia) were directly fighting the US in Syria, the Russian's embarrassed themselves by actually loosing against the US and Syria also lost people think that China or Russia will be able to invade the US and succeed, *you're dead wrong,* Russia is failing at taking ALL of Ukraine, causing them to pull another WW1 and cold war, draining their resources dry(AGAIN), China is too busy with Taiwan to even try to invade the US, yes i'm aware China has more PEOPLE in their military just not the stronger military than the US, PLUS the two big oceans around all of America is an issue, they would have to get their boats and planes ect. across the oceans and even though Alaska basically borders Russia, that area is too dangerous to even try(besides flying), plus the US has two major areas with mountains that would be difficult to get through, also... did people forget that the US owns more GUNS than people? every 1 in 100 people own a gun, Americans fight for their country not just defend it, the coastal military bases would also see the enemies coming and shoot them down or sink them, both Canadian and US Coast Guard are always doing patrols in their waters, when you poke Canada it doesn't end well(take the Germans in both wars and the gulf war for example) Canada is not to be fucked with even if they have a "small" military, they're strong, here's what i'll say to everyone who think all of America can be invaded(Mexico including Canada): 1: don't touch the US boats or try to fight the civilians and you'll be fine 2: don't poke Canada at all, it doesn't end all 3: Mexico? yea... not sure what to say honestly 4: if someone touches Greenland, you've poked Denmark(that's their colony still) 5: just... don't poke any American country, Northern, Central, or Southern, it just causes more issues for any country that pokes at them 6: *SERIOUSLY DON'T TOUCH THE US BOATS*

Great to hear your perspectives on this topic! I have mixed views on our (USA) involvement in other countries conflicts. It puts our country at risk to assist other countries yet when a small country is bullied and unable to adequately defend itself, should we provide some assistance? It is really a difficult situation to have a lot of power and not use it to help others, such as Ukraine. I totally understand why some want us to mind our own business. It would just be the perfect world if all countries could just get a long...wishful thinking. ✌
Sometimes I get the feeling that little countries that are confident we will come rushing to their aide are considerably less careful to avoid conflict then they would otherwise be. Maybe they would actually be better off right now if we weren't the global policeman. There's a reason some neighborhoods have an almost universal contempt for the cops.
@@rtyriaI agree. As much as I think we have some duty to help others, I believe it would do the world a LOT of good if we stopped helping for 5-10 years. At the very least, it reminds all our ungrateful allies and protectorates exactly how much we do for them. The UN Collapses without America. NATO collapses without America. The Red Cross collapese without America. 40ish countries are left entirely defenseless. Most countries lose their nuclear deterrents. Piracy would become rampant without the US Navy. Over 1/3rd of all philanthropy globally suddenly stops. There would be mass famine, out breaks of disease, dozens of countries would become 3rd world countries literally over night.

Great video! As an American, I am tired of us paying in blood and money to be the worlds police and get spat on. I am fine withdrawing from the world but those same nations some of whom hate us come crying for help. They want both ways but they can’t have it that way. America is sick and if we don’t nurse ourselves back to health soon and it might be too late, there won’t be a big brother to help the other freedom loving siblings from being bullied by dictators.
It should also be noted that all the ally countries agreed to pay a percentage on their own military BUT none of them were meeting that agreed upon percentage so Trump called them out on it.
As for my personal opinion regarding our investment in the world theater- Every country was upset with us for taking so long to get into WW2...and with great power comes great responsibility. I keep coming back to the ol saying- " the only thing evil needs to prevail is for good men to do nothing "...however for those of my countrymen who believe we should keep our resources to ourselves I'd like to let them know that during my time in the Corps with MARSOC and later for Homeland Security and the D.O.J. on average 70-80% of our missions that directly stopped imminent attacks on our country at home were only possible because of our world wide network and relationships with other countries. One thing to think about is that yes we spend and give more money and manpower to everyone...even our "enemies " that they go out of their way to look out for our interests...because if we're hurt they suffer far more than us.

I don’t have issues with being more concerned about ourselves. I think so many countries would have a rude awakening if we left. No protection, no favorited trades, no food. So many things outside of the obvious are either taken for granted or go unnoticed completely. So, I say pull back and see what happens. We have enough trouble in our own backyard without minding someone else’s.
Do that and you’ll see US influence disappear. Sure, we pay more than our fair share into NATO, while others fail to meet the minimum. And yeah, countries all over the world (even our allies) may bitch and complain about what America says and does, but at the end of the day, when Uncle Sam says something, you better believe everyone shuts up and listens. Also, dealing with problems abroad is what keeps them abroad. That’s why during the Trump administration, when he kept saying all that isolationist rhetoric, you started to see the leaders of countries like Germany and France trying to take the lead during international conferences. They see a desire to pull back as a sign of weakness, like you’re backing out of the fight. Biden might be one of the most bland presidents we’ve had in the last 50 years, but he’s made it clear that he’s maintaining the status quo of the last 80 years: that being what the US says goes.
You act like we’re there for their benefit only. We’re not. The US wants/needs trade partners and even more so, customers. And resources. And strategic alliances. Plus, if we’re not a strong presence in the country, helping where needed, another country will fill the void. Like Russia. Or China. China businesses have made billions in profits -- and a lot friends -- building roads and other infrastructure in Africa the last few decades. That used to be us. In other words, there is good and bad to being a major presence abroad.

Hey NZ Family, I have a lot to say about this one. America from its inception has always been not just uninterested in building an empire but rather ANTI-empire. The reason for this is that we devised our Government as a system of checks and balances and most importantly, LOCAL CONTROL. We believe that accountability is strongest when power is local, not concentrated into the hands of just a few. We strive to distribute power. As the saying goes, absolute power corrupts absolutely. Dictatorship and Empire are fool's gold. The reason we are such a massive superpower and our forces span the globe is because ALL OF YOU DRAGGED US IN AND BEGGED US TO MAKE IT THIS WAY! So now, in the name of global stability, we have with permission built bases everywhere so that if there's instability anywhere our forces can fill the vacuum and stand in the gap. America historically is isolationist. We mind our business, but our power has grown to such heights that we have spilled into the rest of the planet and half the time we are fighting to keep ourselves contained and not become involved. All the rest of the world invests in us. Now we have devoted our efforts to building and inventing but where is this going? AI? These are perilous times. Most of us want to withdraw from being global police and focus on our country, our peoples which is our national culture, but doing so isn't so easy. If we were to withdraw tomorrow war would soon break out and then larger power allies would become involved and it could go nuclear, so it's a risky proposition for us to withdraw. To demonstrate just how sticky this issue is, former Representative Ron Paul was perhaps the most vocal advocate for isolationism but his son Senator Rand Paul takes the middle road advocating for partial withdrawal and partial global presence. I fall into the Rand Paul category. That way we can at least knock off some of the globalism but still prevent worldwide catastrophe and possible human extinction.
Perfectly said, it would be great if we could take a break from the world’s expectations to fix everything when it’s a position that goes against our country’s founding principles. That said, I think it would be nice to keep the strong relationships we have with the allies who actually like us or consider us as a part of family. Very tired of having ties with countries that keep backstabbing us or expect us to pay for everything. It’s coming at the cost of the US and we need a reasonable country to step in or the very least that many of these countries learn to pull their own weight. I hate that our country is basically an empire, as much as it started off by being put in this position to prevent another world war, we became the thing our Founding Father’s fought against.
Well said and I agree with you. I protested the Iraq but am firmly behind saving Europe from Russia. I still cannot believe Germany got in bed with Russia for cheap gas after what they started doing in 2000. What a shame, that truly hurt all of Europe and the Nordic region. You're right on the can't have your cake and eat it too. It would be nice if the US could mind our own sometimes but ultimately I think it comes down to that not being who we are and what our country stands for. When you have the means to help, you help but at that same time you wish you didn't always get that call because at some point those in need have to stand on their own. Unfortunately there's always someone willing to crush the weak and that's not ever something that can be ignored but you wish others would take the wheel more often than they do and handle it.
That was a good conversation you had after watching the video. The whole situation is very complex in my opinion. As other countries be come more technologically advanced and aquire modern weapons, the complexion of the world changes. And when these weapons are in the hands of screwball leaders like the guy in North Korea, that becomes very scary.
As an American and a military vet, I can see both sides to this issue. I think many of us in the USA would prefer to not get involved in SOooo many international issues, but with the countries of the world becoming more and more interactive with each other, we are all becoming a global family (just as some of us are part of your New Zealand Family). We depend on each other! We can no longer turn our heads and pretend that we do not see the evil, for there are always those in the world that want to control others. Americans are not perfect nor without our sins (i.e. American Indian treatment and past history of slavery being those we are still are ashamed of). So maybe one of the reasons Americans feel compelled to fight and protect smaller countries is to atone for some of these dark pages of our history. We value the rights and freedom we have and wish to protect others who may have or desire these. Since we have the ability to stand up and defend the weaker or even defenseless many of us feel compelled to say..."not on my watch" ! There are very few in our military that seek conflict and war, we would prefer to not fight but will not hide from it if necessary. Yes we tire of getting involved in these conflicts, but if we don't who will ? As Nadine stated in this VLog, if NZ got checked who are you looking to? But it is not just us, think of ALL the men and women, not only in America but many of the countries of the world that have sacrificed everything to earn and/or retain these freedoms, not just for themselves but hopefully for all. “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing,” - so we stay prepared and vigilant !
Really appreciate your guy’s empathy and logical perspective of the dilemma us Americans are fighting amongst ourselves. Historically, the country was never meant to be a world power, our country, down to being colonized, frankly is our ancestors wanting to stay away from the world’s problems and start a new life. Yet somehow the responsibility of the world’s problems fell to us at the end of the WWII, when just 5 years earlier our own military was barely a scratch of what it became. What makes it tough is how allies don’t think twice about the pressure our country has been put through, at the American public’s expense, just so these very same countries take for granted of the sacrifices made so their countries don’t fall into disarray. The worst part is that we try not to act like superiors, and we do take the position we found ourselves in seriously, but we feel like we are at a distance from the rest of the world, being put on a pedestal to be condemned, the perfect place to be targeted. That said, in recent years, we’ve learned those who actually value us as friends like the South Koreans and the Japanese, we’ve had allies that are like family such as the Brits, the Commonwealth English speaking countries, and even the French, and those that have a dear history together like with the Philippines or Israel, but we are ready to not be the answer to everyone’s problems. Part of the core principles of our country is respecting free will, I think the War of Terrorism has done it for us. We’re tired of being expected to fix problems that are out of our own control, especially when so much of the problems could have been resolved if certain countries stopped contributing to the build up tensions. As ideal as being a peace maker is, it has backfired as we are seen by many around the world as either too meddlesome, arrogant, greedy, gluttonous, superficial, stupid, a walking mat, and never taken seriously that it’s concerning how much it has affected moral in our country. Growing up, I’ve had to witness my home to having pride in the citizens, the shock of the attack if 9/11 and the dwindling support over the years. What’s left is a lot of confused people, many have lost the spirit of being an American as the belief in the country is waning in certain parts and it’s affecting the nation. What many of us would like is a chance to get our own country in order, there’s so much corruption that it’s not just affecting how things are running today but it’s affecting future generations if we don’t stay on top of it. With that, we’d like the world to actually do their part and quit expecting us to automatically solve their problems, it’s come to a point too many countries don’t think twice of the work that it takes to keep some peace that there’s a handful who act entitled to American protection while in the same breath wish to knock down our country so their country can be seen as a global leader. So I’ll repeat this again, Americans never asked to be in this position, but given how things went after WWI that created another world war a generation later, we were put in a spot to want to prevent another catastrophic war. The American mindset was never about taking over the world, however, many of us fear that those in control have lost their marbles, need to be reigned in, as there is those in charge that have abused their power being in this position for so long. We want them gone, but they remain there when certain countries keep giving them the perfect excuse to make them stay in their political positions. Many of us want our country back, it’s come to a point I wonder if those men who died in Normandy died in vain with how things turned out. If the sacrifices made was just so our country could become a hollow shell. Many of us are even disgusted with what has become of our culture.

When i deployed to Iraq in 2010 I thought i was gonna be fighting middle east Taliban soldiers. I later find out most of my combat situations were by a mix of Kursks (a heavily communist and russian backed group) and a few Russian soldiers. It truly threw me for a loop. As an American from San Antonio, Texas, I have to say that after discovering your videos, I have fallen in love with your beautiful family. The US is absolutely the best place in the world to live, and more many reasons; but our greatest weakness is our education system. You sitting as a family and viewing informative, educational content is priceless. In the US, kids mostly go off on their own and get lost in their phones and social media. Your kids are getting a better education just sitting with you guys, and I absolutely love the fact that they are well behaved, respectful, and genuinely captivated by what they are learning. As an American, I can definitely say I would strongly prefer to return to our isolationist roots. That said, I understand why we don't and probably can't at this point; no one has our economy except China who clearly has expansionist ideology. It is frustrating to be responsible for the free world, though, especially financially and then to be criticized for it. It seems we are criticized either way.

A lot of countries don't want the US involvement, but are more than happy to accept financial assistance! I am one for assisting where asked, supporting our allies, helping out financially to nations suffering from a disaster and the like. Re. our stance on our European allies who lost so much, the USA came in and pretty much rebuilt France, UK, even Germany after the war, and w/o interest. In fact, it was all a gift. We even helped Japan in the same way. I left San Diego (having grown up there) for Arizona in 2020 during Covid as I work remotely and the home prices at that time meant I could trade in a condo for a house. If I could afford something similar in San Diego, I’d move back in a second but California is just so expensive and this move meant a lot more financial security, and although summers are very hot here, it’s a fairly stable area for catastrophic weather events that occur seasonally in so many areas of the U.S.
BORING FUN FACT WARNING: One of Trump's objections to NATO was that one of the terms of membership is that each member country is required to devote a minimum 2% of their GDP to their defense budget, to maintain collective military readiness for defense against (basically) Russia. But European countries got used to the US footing the bill and devoted that money to other things. In 2016, when Trump was elected, only 4 countries (besides the US) out of 27 member countries were fulfilling that requirement. As of last year, 7 out of 30 members were contributing 2%. A lot of Americans also found it frustrating that while the US was bearing more than half of the cost of funding NATO, Germany struck a pipeline deal with Russia, making itself dependent for much of its energy needs on the country we are supposed to be defending them against-- instead of buying oil and gas from us. There's also a growing feeling that the US is contributing a lot more to the defense of Ukraine that its European neighbors, who are far more at risk from Russian expansion.

Although everyone think NYC is the place to visit when in New York it’s Albany/Troy/Saratoga which has more history for USA & NY then NYC. The history of many settlers by ship into NYC from other countries in 1700-1800s. It was the 1790-1920 that the Industrial Revolution change US and the world. I live in Troy, Home of Uncle Sam, Norman Rockwell painting, and the Hudson Mohawk Industrial Gateway - Burden Iron Work Museum (horseshoe, Meeley Bells, Ferris wheel (Mr Ferris went to RPI College, first engineer college to admit woman), USS Monitor, rototiller, etc), we were once known as “Collar City” but we also had Woman Labor changes, beer industry etc. Presently they just filmed the Guild Age, we had Ironweed, Sent of Woman and many more movie and RUclips video explaining the City. As Albany is the capital of NY, it has State Jobs and Historical museums. Schenectady has GE “Electric City”, Saratoga Horse racing, battlefields, and Military cemetery. It’s the history of settlers, the French & Indian war… basically the melting pot of the country. This area also has 5 colleges in Troy, 5 in Albany, 3 in Schenectady and 2 in Saratoga. We meet people from around the world on a daily bases and our restaurants in Troy express the differences. Speaking of travel, it can be very stressful and tough on the body, if you fly into NYC from UK the train to Albany is a very scenic route through the Catskill Mtn. You can connect West or South for more adventure.

As an American, afghan war vet. I share a lot of the sames thoughts. One hand we hear others tell us to stay out of stuff, but then when stuff happens and we don't rush to aid we are called out for it. Personally growing up living through post 9/11 and surving in the army, and war. After messing up two wars, I'm of the mind that maybe the U.S. just keep to its self. Let other countries maybe not rely on us so much and learn to defend them selves again, and we fix a lot of the problems at home we are ignoring first and then we can see where we all stand.
Other countries want our money, but we try to make sure that people all over the world are treated decently. Too much power in anyone's hands is never good. That being said, I think that it's important to give freedom to all people.
Being a veteran in the us navy I do think our policies portray us as the world cop. Keeping our nose in everybody’s business. At the same time most of the countries whining about the US are the first ones to scream for help when something happens to there country.

And Russia was armed by American industry... We gave them tens of thousands of tanks, planes, jeeps, and small arms during WW2, and that's how they were able to continue the fight, because their industry was just not up to the task. Allied victory was a collective affair, to be sure.

When Australia was threatened with invasion by the Japanese in 1942, all of their fighting men were in North Africa, defending British imperial interests(the Suez Canal). There are some cases where we Americans shouldn't get involved however in my opinion I stand by the quote " if you're asked to be a hero, be a hero". We should be able to mind our own business but when humanity requests support and we need to come together as people that's a beautiful thing as well. I wouldn’t say the United States has become the World Police. As you guys rightly pointed out, things have changed significantly for the world (not just the U.S.) after WWII when it came to rebuilding and maintaining the peace. It’s a lot to digest, but I would also point out, that while Europe and Asia were in the process of rebuilding - and the U.S. helped established a United Nations to help prevent wars - America was asked to maintain security against a spreading Communism while European nations were rebuilding their economies. I’ll say again, the U.S. was asked to stay in place while Europe 1) rebuild and 2) reinforce their own security while their economies got back on their own two feet. The former happened with mixed results, while the latter pretty much never happened. The U.S. spends billions of dollars to maintain overseas bases, even while funding the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to deter the spread of totalitarianism and a United Nations to respond to humanitarian and security matters. Despite this, there hasn’t been much of a push from Europe for the U.S. to retrieve its military assets from overseas. Many Americans question “Why is this so? And why must we do it?” The answer comes in many forms and the debate is far and wide, but the consensus among many Europeans has been “why change the status quo? Why should Europe spend billions for that which America has kept and maintained successfully with their own taxes dollars so well?” Former President Trump (like him or leave him) has posited that a withdrawal from these spaces will force Europe to start paying for more of their own security - especially in light of the fact that NATO, nor the UN has done much to fight the types of aggression that happen every few years, even though it was founded (and funded) to deter and prevent it. So, “World Police” is not a badge that the U.S. wears particularly proudly. It may simply be a job other nations have refused to applied themselves towards. Americans like me would love for Eastern and Western Europe to say “we have prevent or deterred an aggression toward Ukraine all on our own. So thanks America, but since it impacts us more, we have it covered.” Maybe one day.
As an American, I look at it this way. If one of our allies is attacked and we can help, we should. In the late thirties if the allies had not appeased Hitler ant took put an end to the Nazi regime when it first started maybe a lot more lives would have been saved.

American here. I think the sentiment is the same between Americans and non Americans on friendly terms with America. On one hand, yes America is too involved. On the other hand, it’s nice having the means to put fires out as they spring up. As you said, if NZ got in a bind, who do you call? Now for non-friendly nations, they hate it (looking at you Russia). China talks a big game but 90% of their economy is dependent on access to ours.

Not sure I can get behind everything said here. Looking at what wars you mentioned (basically all of ours since WW2) all of them can be justified save one. Korea was the successful defense of a democracy from communism, Vietnam the unsuccessful defense of democracy. Iraq 1 was all about the liberation or Kuwait and protecting the worlds oil supply. Afghanistan was more about Al Qaeda than the country and that was successful on principle. Iraq 2…. I have no idea. The notion that it doesn’t touch day to day American lives is also false. Yes we win by fighting someplace else that’s not a secret, but there is still a price to pay for the families of those who don’t come home. Or the time lost for the ones that do. During the Cold War, as stated in the video, some dictators were propped up as a means to counter a similar regime propped up by the then Soviet Union. After the Soviet collapse, many of those dictators were brought down. The US could withdraw entirely from the world sure. Even economically courtesy of that blessed geography granting nearly unlimited natural resources, food, and cheap transportation of goods (Mississippi River system). Some argue that we should do that once more as the need to be a global super power really doesn’t exist and the cost is extreme. No more foreign aid, no more foreign wars, no more trade outside our own hemisphere.

Though many Americans do truly believe in "the cause" we never fight wars for this reason, we fight wars like any other nation because it is in our best interests to do so, be it for economic or strategic reasons. I personal am very fond of returning to neutrality outside of the Americas. There is nothing wrong with trade, we have always traded with the world, but trade outside the Americas should not be set up in a globalist way. We should try to set up and American trade union that would seek to "globalize" the Americas and just do old fashion regular non globalizing trade with the rest of the world and maintain neutrality in non American wars. The problem this cannot be done because is we picked a side in ww1, against the will of almost all the citizens, and it has entangled us in millennia of hatred and rivalry. No offense to our allies, they have wonderful cultures and great nations, but most of them would fall within a few decades of our withdraw. Then, the world would be vastly controlled by our rivals who have good motive to seek our destruction rather then leave us to live our lives in the Americas who, over the centuries could become powerful enough to destroy us if we allow a few massive nations to form out of our current fragmented world by pulling out. We are stuck in an inescapable situation that has caused massive cracks in the foundations of our republic, but this is how things are and we cant undo the past. Call me what you like for saying this but we ARE the masters of the world and it has never been ruled with a lighter hand. If the romans where in our position after ww2 they would have ruled the planet utterly and pillaged any who resisted, same for the Scythians, the Babylonians, the British and even the Persians, who before us by far had been the most benevolent nation to rule the world. I do not know much about eastern history, but from what I do know about Chinese history back when they ruled their world I'd have no dought in my mind they would have too. I know even less of Indian history but based purely off reputation I would say they they are the only one that could be argued would not have. The Spanish American war proved America has no desire to conquer and rule an empire, but having made enemies we must act on the global stage to prevent them from building massive empire of their own. Minor powers are treated by major powers as they always have been, be it as trade partners malevolent or benign to boost ones economy putting it in a better position should war come with other major powers that could truly harm it, allies to provided martial support should such a war break out often through conquering then setting up a government that supports yours (at least most of ours are CIA ops and drastically reduce the violence and death required), or flat out conquest for strategic and economic benefits again so your nation is stronger and better prepared for the next dangerous enemy. America will fall to our enemies, every victory we have through good or bad methods delays that moment. That is the ultimate purpose of any government to keep the people alive and the nation intact, even it that means killing tens of millions of your own like in communism. The question is will it be a decade, a century, or a millennia. Persia was so lenient of a ruler because it came after the Scythians who had spent generations terrorizing people into obedience then sacking them even if they were loyal, but when alexander took them out his successor states ruled through might alone. America can be lenient because we were the alternative to Nazis and Japs whom I consider our closest ally today. Whether you think they could have ever won is irrelevant, the people at the time did. When America falls the only way the next master can keep their empire together after such a lenient hand is by the opposite and we live in a technological age in which one bureaucracy could control the entire planet utterly and establish a technological feudalism. Think of the risk of invasion and manstealing every nation has always had omnipresent, even powerful states such as the romans feared the Gauls then the East then the Germans, and everybody no matter how strong feared the step. Then think of the Pax Americana and the Great Peace that you and your parents where likely born into and how comparatively we have had to do incredibly few evils to maintain our throne and keep vast peace across the globe without having to truly rule over it. Then decide whether or not you want America to stay at at the top of the food chain doing what we must do. I hate it and curse any member of our administration that gave loans to the allies in ww1 making it so we had no choice but to join the war when they were gonna lose, putting us in this situation. We could have been the eternal neutral too economically powerful for anyone to bother fighting and with few grudges for any nation to have a reason to apart from greed. I apologies for the length, this point can not be properly made in few sentences without just sounding like ha ha we rule the world, suck it. Personally I thing the greatest risk to the peace is the degradation of our democratic republic and the infighting we have seen over the past few decades but particularly these last few years. Russia and China are great powers but they are nothing compared to use but if we keep going down the path we have been, china can become a true rival by the end of the century making a world war incredibly likely.

Nadine's comment is the exact thing that makes the whole situation so incredibly difficult. Most people from the USA would probably want us to stay out of everyone's problems. Except the second that the real big problems come up, people expect and want the USA to help.

As an American.. I appreciate the respect and love our Country gets and the well deserved military respect. That said, I get the isolationist idea that we don't need to be the police of every place at all times. We, as a country, get so much hate, while trying to help, at the cost of ourselves.. myself, a taxpayer. It would be nice to see other countries try to handle their own business and all the illegal immigration limited. We have immigration and constitutional laws for a reason. Not saying I want US to step out completely, but I feel like our country has become a parent to other countries.. we pay for everything but also take all the blame.
We do that to prevent a war that could kill billions. Hopefully history will remember...

As an American this is a constant debate. It feels like we can’t win cause people will hate us if we intervene, but if we don’t they’ll say why aren’t you helping if you have the capability to help. Sometimes I wish we would return to an isolationist mindset.
A big part of it in terms of our power is also how blessed a country we are geographically which has allowed us to develop into the economic superpower we are. It's a big longer but if you guys take recommendations, I think, minus some minor quibbles in terms of how it's framed, Real Life Lore's video titled "How Geography Made The US Ridiculously OP" does a great job in showing how our resources and geography are perfectly suited for global power.

I live in New Hampshire right by Bretton Woods. That hotel is called the Mt Washington resort and it’s beautiful. It is at the base of one of then most treacherous mountains in the world. They had the highest recorded wind speed in history there. It’s brutal in the winter.
A large part of the post-WWII American work was a massive influx of cash to rebuild Europe. Also NZ is far from isolated from this. As a member of the Five Eyes it, along with Australia, Canada, the UK and United States all share intelligence on an absolutely massive scale.

The United States, up until World War2, we were isolationists. But Europe had dragged us into two world wars. So the United States took a proactive stance to World politics and influence. That's when we started building military bases all over the world.

Yes America was isolationist other than its attempts at buying Iceland, Greenland, going to war with Spain over Cuba, interfering a lot in Central America, taking over the Philippines, Hawaii, buying Alaska, the Virgin Islands, etc. but other than that totally isolationist!

Not just politics but also tools that help (B-29 bomber, P-51 Mustang, Sherman Tank or better medicine )and weapons improvements through the war and to this day and every day in the future. people think that China or Russia will be able to invade the US and succeed, *you're dead wrong,* Russia is failing at taking ALL of Ukraine, causing them to pull another WW1 and cold war, draining their resources dry(AGAIN), China is too busy with Taiwan to even try to invade the US, yes i'm aware China has more PEOPLE in their military just not the stronger military than the US, PLUS the two big oceans around all of America is an issue, they would have to get their boats and planes ect. across the oceans and even though Alaska basically borders Russia, that area is too dangerous to even try(besides flying), plus the US has two major areas with mountains that would be difficult to get through, also... did people forget that the US owns more GUNS than people? every 1 in 100 people own a gun, Americans fight for their country not just defend it, the coastal military bases would also see the enemies coming and shoot them down or sink them, both Canadian and US Coast Guard are always doing patrols in their waters, when you poke Canada it doesn't end well(take the Germans in both wars and the gulf war for example) Canada is not to be fucked with even if they have a "small" military, they're strong, here's what i'll say to everyone who think all of America can be invaded(Mexico including Canada):
1: don't touch the US boats or try to fight the civilians and you'll be fine
2: don't poke Canada at all, it doesn't end all

4: if someone touches Greenland, you've poked Denmark(that's their colony still)

Great to hear your perspectives on this topic! I have mixed views on our (USA) involvement in other countries conflicts. It puts our country at risk to assist other countries yet when a small country is bullied and unable to adequately defend itself, should we provide some assistance? It is really a difficult situation to have a lot of power and not use it to help others, such as Ukraine. I totally understand why some want us to mind our own business. It would just be the perfect world if all countries could just get a long...wishful thinking. ✌

Sometimes I get the feeling that little countries that are confident we will come rushing to their aide are considerably less careful to avoid conflict then they would otherwise be. Maybe they would actually be better off right now if we weren't the global policeman. There's a reason some neighborhoods have an almost universal contempt for the cops.
@@rtyriaI agree. As much as I think we have some duty to help others, I believe it would do the world a LOT of good if we stopped helping for 5-10 years. At the very least, it reminds all our ungrateful allies and protectorates exactly how much we do for them.
The UN Collapses without America. NATO collapses without America. The Red Cross collapese without America. 40ish countries are left entirely defenseless. Most countries lose their nuclear deterrents. Piracy would become rampant without the US Navy. Over 1/3rd of all philanthropy globally suddenly stops. There would be mass famine, out breaks of disease, dozens of countries would become 3rd world countries literally over night.

Great video! As an American, I am tired of us paying in blood and money to be the worlds police and get spat on. I am fine withdrawing from the world but those same nations some of whom hate us come crying for help. They want both ways but they can’t have it that way. America is sick and if we don’t nurse ourselves back to health soon and it might be too late, there won’t be a big brother to help the other freedom loving siblings from being bullied by dictators.
It should also be noted that all the ally countries agreed to pay a percentage on their own military BUT none of them were meeting that agreed upon percentage so Trump called them out on it.
As for my personal opinion regarding our investment in the world theater- Every country was upset with us for taking so long to get into WW2...and with great power comes great responsibility. I keep coming back to the ol saying-
" the only thing evil needs to prevail is for good men to do nothing "...however for those of my countrymen who believe we should keep our resources to ourselves I'd like to let them know that during my time in the Corps with MARSOC and later for Homeland Security and the D.O.J. on average 70-80% of our missions that directly stopped imminent attacks on our country at home were only possible because of our world wide network and relationships with other countries. One thing to think about is that yes we spend and give more money and manpower to everyone...even our "enemies " that they go out of their way to look out for our interests...because if we're hurt they suffer far more than us.

Part of me as an American says let them defend themeselves but the other side is, let them rely on us if we step away they have to strengthen their military which we may not want them to do
I don’t have issues with being more concerned about ourselves. I think so many countries would have a rude awakening if we left. No protection, no favorited trades, no food. So many things outside of the obvious are either taken for granted or go unnoticed completely. So, I say pull back and see what happens. We have enough trouble in our own backyard without minding someone else’s.
Do that and you’ll see US influence disappear. Sure, we pay more than our fair share into NATO, while others fail to meet the minimum. And yeah, countries all over the world (even our allies) may bitch and complain about what America says and does, but at the end of the day, when Uncle Sam says something, you better believe everyone shuts up and listens. Also, dealing with problems abroad is what keeps them abroad.
That’s why during the Trump administration, when he kept saying all that isolationist rhetoric, you started to see the leaders of countries like Germany and France trying to take the lead during international conferences. They see a desire to pull back as a sign of weakness, like you’re backing out of the fight. Biden might be one of the most bland presidents we’ve had in the last 50 years, but he’s made it clear that he’s maintaining the status quo of the last 80 years: that being what the US says goes.
You act like we’re there for their benefit only. We’re not. The US wants/needs trade partners and even more so, customers. And resources. And strategic alliances. Plus, if we’re not a strong presence in the country, helping where needed, another country will fill the void. Like Russia. Or China. China businesses have made billions in profits -- and a lot friends -- building roads and other infrastructure in Africa the last few decades. That used to be us. In other words, there is good and bad to being a major presence abroad.

Hey NZ Family, I have a lot to say about this one. America from its inception has always been not just uninterested in building an empire but rather ANTI-empire. The reason for this is that we devised our Government as a system of checks and balances and most importantly, LOCAL CONTROL. We believe that accountability is strongest when power is local, not concentrated into the hands of just a few. We strive to distribute power. As the saying goes, absolute power corrupts absolutely. Dictatorship and Empire are fool's gold. The reason we are such a massive superpower and our forces span the globe is because ALL OF YOU DRAGGED US IN AND BEGGED US TO MAKE IT THIS WAY! So now, in the name of global stability, we have with permission built bases everywhere so that if there's instability anywhere our forces can fill the vacuum and stand in the gap. America historically is isolationist. We mind our business, but our power has grown to such heights that we have spilled into the rest of the planet and half the time we are fighting to keep ourselves contained and not become involved. All the rest of the world invests in us. Now we have devoted our efforts to building and inventing but where is this going? AI? These are perilous times. Most of us want to withdraw from being global police and focus on our country, our peoples which is our national culture, but doing so isn't so easy. If we were to withdraw tomorrow war would soon break out and then larger power allies would become involved and it could go nuclear, so it's a risky proposition for us to withdraw. To demonstrate just how sticky this issue is, former Representative Ron Paul was perhaps the most vocal advocate for isolationism but his son Senator Rand Paul takes the middle road advocating for partial withdrawal and partial global presence. I fall into the Rand Paul category. That way we can at least knock off some of the globalism but still prevent worldwide catastrophe and possible human extinction.
Perfectly said, it would be great if we could take a break from the world’s expectations to fix everything when it’s a position that goes against our country’s founding principles. That said, I think it would be nice to keep the strong relationships we have with the allies who actually like us or consider us as a part of family. Very tired of having ties with countries that keep backstabbing us or expect us to pay for everything. It’s coming at the cost of the US and we need a reasonable country to step in or the very least that many of these countries learn to pull their own weight. I hate that our country is basically an empire, as much as it started off by being put in this position to prevent another world war, we became the thing our Founding Father’s fought against.
Well said and I agree with you. I protested the Iraq but am firmly behind saving Europe from Russia. I still cannot believe Germany got in bed with Russia for cheap gas after what they started doing in 2000. What a shame, that truly hurt all of Europe and the Nordic region.

You're right on the can't have your cake and eat it too. It would be nice if the US could mind our own sometimes but ultimately I think it comes down to that not being who we are and what our country stands for. When you have the means to help, you help but at that same time you wish you didn't always get that call because at some point those in need have to stand on their own. Unfortunately there's always someone willing to crush the weak and that's not ever something that can be ignored but you wish others would take the wheel more often than they do and handle it.
That was a good conversation you had after watching the video. The whole situation is very complex in my opinion. As other countries be come more technologically advanced and aquire modern weapons, the complexion of the world changes. And when these weapons are in the hands of screwball leaders like the guy in North Korea, that becomes very scary.

As an American and a military vet, I can see both sides to this issue. I think many of us in the USA would prefer to not get involved in SOooo many international issues, but with the countries of the world becoming more and more interactive with each other, we are all becoming a global family (just as some of us are part of your New Zealand Family). We depend on each other! We can no longer turn our heads and pretend that we do not see the evil, for there are always those in the world that want to control others. Americans are not perfect nor without our sins (i.e. American Indian treatment and past history of slavery being those we are still are ashamed of). So maybe one of the reasons Americans feel compelled to fight and protect smaller countries is to atone for some of these dark pages of our history. We value the rights and freedom we have and wish to protect others who may have or desire these. Since we have the ability to stand up and defend the weaker or even defenseless many of us feel compelled to say..."not on my watch" ! There are very few in our military that seek conflict and war, we would prefer to not fight but will not hide from it if necessary. Yes we tire of getting involved in these conflicts, but if we don't who will ?

Really appreciate your guy’s empathy and logical perspective of the dilemma us Americans are fighting amongst ourselves. Historically, the country was never meant to be a world power, our country, down to being colonized, frankly is our ancestors wanting to stay away from the world’s problems and start a new life. Yet somehow the responsibility of the world’s problems fell to us at the end of the WWII, when just 5 years earlier our own military was barely a scratch of what it became. What makes it tough is how allies don’t think twice about the pressure our country has been put through, at the American public’s expense, just so these very same countries take for granted of the sacrifices made so their countries don’t fall into disarray. The worst part is that we try not to act like superiors, and we do take the position we found ourselves in seriously, but we feel like we are at a distance from the rest of the world, being put on a pedestal to be condemned, the perfect place to be targeted.
That said, in recent years, we’ve learned those who actually value us as friends like the South Koreans and the Japanese, we’ve had allies that are like family such as the Brits, the Commonwealth English speaking countries, and even the French, and those that have a dear history together like with the Philippines or Israel, but we are ready to not be the answer to everyone’s problems. Part of the core principles of our country is respecting free will, I think the War of Terrorism has done it for us. We’re tired of being expected to fix problems that are out of our own control, especially when so much of the problems could have been resolved if certain countries stopped contributing to the build up tensions. As ideal as being a peace maker is, it has backfired as we are seen by many around the world as either too meddlesome, arrogant, greedy, gluttonous, superficial, stupid, a walking mat, and never taken seriously that it’s concerning how much it has affected moral in our country. Growing up, I’ve had to witness my home to having pride in the citizens, the shock of the attack if 9/11 and the dwindling support over the years. What’s left is a lot of confused people, many have lost the spirit of being an American as the belief in the country is waning in certain parts and it’s affecting the nation. What many of us would like is a chance to get our own country in order, there’s so much corruption that it’s not just affecting how things are running today but it’s affecting future generations if we don’t stay on top of it. With that, we’d like the world to actually do their part and quit expecting us to automatically solve their problems, it’s come to a point too many countries don’t think twice of the work that it takes to keep some peace that there’s a handful who act entitled to American protection while in the same breath wish to knock down our country so their country can be seen as a global leader.
So I’ll repeat this again, Americans never asked to be in this position, but given how things went after WWI that created another world war a generation later, we were put in a spot to want to prevent another catastrophic war. The American mindset was never about taking over the world, however, many of us fear that those in control have lost their marbles, need to be reigned in, as there is those in charge that have abused their power being in this position for so long. We want them gone, but they remain there when certain countries keep giving them the perfect excuse to make them stay in their political positions. Many of us want our country back, it’s come to a point I wonder if those men who died in Normandy died in vain with how things turned out. If the sacrifices made was just so our country could become a hollow shell. Many of us are even disgusted with what has become of our culture.
Yes, many of the indigenous peoples were killed, but most died to diseases they had never been exposed to that the invaders were resistant to due to years of exposure.

Pensacola, Florida , has a free Aviation museum which free to get in. They have veterans volunteer their time to come tell about the war and aviation. It is basically tour given by our volunteers veterans.

When i deployed to Iraq in 2010 I thought i was gonna be fighting middle east Taliban soldiers. I later find out most of my combat situations were by a mix of Kursks (a heavily communist and russian backed group) and a few Russian soldiers. It truly threw me for a loop. Love your content, im trying to get a package for you to put Vermont on your list. You sitting as a family and viewing informative, educational content is priceless. In the US, kids mostly go off on their own and get lost in their phones and social media. Your kids are getting a better education just sitting with you guys, and I absolutely love the fact that they are well behaved, respectful, and genuinely captivated by what they are learning. Bravo to you all, and especially to your excellent example as parents! I just wish you were in the neighborhood so I could invite all of you over for some good ol' Texas barbeque in my backyard along with some cool drinks and Country music (especially the patriotic kind). Thank you for truly appreciating what most Americans take for granted every day! If you ever vist our nation, anywhere in our borders is a great place o be for July 4th. And here in San Antonio, we have city-wide festivities every April called Fiesta; and we also have the best food around. Of course, we're also the home of the San Antonio Riverwalk, The Alamo (and several other Missions, the Spurs, the UTSA Roadrunners, Seaworld and Six Flags theme parks, and much more. One of the top 10 largest cities in the US and growing fast. Lots of info about our great city online, including a Fiesta San Antonio website where you can see photos of some of the invents, which include multiple parades, a carnival, dance contests, concert performances, and many other events. Lots of history too between the Missions, the first US Post Office, the first hotel in the nation to have full in-door airconditioning, one of the most haunted hotels in the nation (The Menger), and much, much more. We/re also a military town, with multiple bases for the Army, Navy, and Airforce. Yeah, I'm definitely a proud Texas (and American). With all that said though, I would to see more about New Zealand and what you guys most enjoy about it.
As an American, I can definitely say I would strongly prefer to return to our isolationist roots. That said, I understand why we don't and probably can't at this point; no one has our economy except China who clearly has expansionist ideology. It is frustrating to be responsible for the free world, though, especially financially and then to be criticized for it. It seems we are criticized either way.
You have to understand that in today's day and age with today's technology it is impossible for the United States to be isolationist in order to secure all the resources that we need to maintain our standard of living including Rare Earth and other vital resources that we cannot produce independently we must protect the ocean and trade routes throughout the world otherwise our economy can and will collapse unlike over seventy years ago in which the state of Technology was far less Advanced and which we were very self-sufficient including an oil today this is not the case if United States wants to remain at its current level and grow it must be more involved in the world

As someone who pays more than a manager at best buy's whole income for taxes each year, let me tell you I have some opinions on foreign aid. We take billions from the poorest people in our country, and give it to the richest people in poor countries that burn our flag. You can understand the distaste that leaves in our mouths.

A lot of countries don't want the US involvement, but are more than happy to accept financial assistance! I am one for assisting where asked, supporting our allies, helping out financially to nations suffering from a disaster and the like. I believe organizations like the UN (and not just the US) should be more involved in eliminating the oppression of women in certain countries. Much love to your family from Kentucky!

Re. our stance on our European allies who lost so much, the USA came in and pretty much rebuilt France, UK, even Germany after the war, and w/o interest. In fact, it was all a gift. We even helped Japan in the same way. As far as the comment about Israel goes, I don't know if you know it, but the US has more Jews than Israel, so it would be nothing short of wrong to turn our national back on the nation that figures so prevalently in the book (the Bible) of our nation's 2 most historically prominent religions--Christianity (OT and NT) and Judaism (OT only).

I left San Diego (having grown up there) for Arizona in 2020 during Covid as I work remotely and the home prices at that time meant I could trade in a condo for a house. If I could afford something similar in San Diego, I’d move back in a second but California is just so expensive and this move meant a lot more financial security, and although summers are very hot here, it’s a fairly stable area for catastrophic weather events that occur seasonally in so many areas of the U.S.

BORING FUN FACT WARNING: One of Trump's objections to NATO was that one of the terms of membership is that each member country is required to devote a minimum 2% of their GDP to their defense budget, to maintain collective military readiness for defense against (basically) Russia. But European countries got used to the US footing the bill and devoted that money to other things. In 2016, when Trump was elected, only 4 countries (besides the US) out of 27 member countries were fulfilling that requirement. As of last year, 7 out of 30 members were contributing 2%. A lot of Americans also found it frustrating that while the US was bearing more than half of the cost of funding NATO, Germany struck a pipeline deal with Russia, making itself dependent for much of its energy needs on the country we are supposed to be defending them against-- instead of buying oil and gas from us. There's also a growing feeling that the US is contributing a lot more to the defense of Ukraine that its European neighbors, who are far more at risk from Russian expansion.

Although everyone think NYC is the place to visit when in New York it’s Albany/Troy/Saratoga which has more history for USA & NY then NYC. The history of many settlers by ship into NYC from other countries in 1700-1800s. It was the 1790-1920 that the Industrial Revolution change US and the world. I live in Troy, Home of Uncle Sam, Norman Rockwell painting, and the Hudson Mohawk Industrial Gateway - Burden Iron Work Museum (horseshoe, Meeley Bells, Ferris wheel (Mr Ferris went to RPI College, first engineer college to admit woman), USS Monitor, rototiller, etc), we were once known as “Collar City” but we also had Woman Labor changes, beer industry etc. Presently they just filmed the Guild Age, we had Ironweed, Sent of Woman and many more movie and RUclips video explaining the City. As Albany is the capital of NY, it has State Jobs and Historical museums. Schenectady has GE “Electric City”, Saratoga Horse racing, battlefields, and Military cemetery. It’s the history of settlers, the French & Indian war… basically the melting pot of the country. This area also has 5 colleges in Troy, 5 in Albany, 3 in Schenectady and 2 in Saratoga. We meet people from around the world on a daily bases and our restaurants in Troy express the differences. Speaking of travel, it can be very stressful and tough on the body, if you fly into NYC from UK the train to Albany is a very scenic route through the Catskill Mtn. You can connect West or South for more adventure.

As an American, afghan war vet. I share a lot of the sames thoughts. One hand we hear others tell us to stay out of stuff, but then when stuff happens and we don't rush to aid we are called out for it. Personally growing up living through post 9/11 and surving in the army, and war. After messing up two wars, I'm of the mind that maybe the U.S. just keep to its self. Let other countries maybe not rely on us so much and learn to defend them selves again, and we fix a lot of the problems at home we are ignoring first and then we can see where we all stand.
When the U.S. started to grow was after the Civil war and the video left one thing out is how much we grew during the 1920s.

Being a veteran in the us navy I do think our policies portray us as the world cop. Keeping our nose in everybody’s business. At the same time most of the countries whining about the US are the first ones to scream for help when something happens to there country.
But are we not all supposed to be Allies ? If the u.s. needed assistance I'm pretty sure a lot of countries would intervene .

And Russia was armed by American industry... We gave them tens of thousands of tanks, planes, jeeps, and small arms during WW2, and that's how they were able to continue the fight, because their industry was just not up to the task. Allied victory was a collective affair, to be sure.

Public education here is a euphemism. It was never meant to actually educate the population, despite the name they put on the label. Much of the history I learned in k-12 was wrong and mostly just government propaganda to make us view the US government as the good guys.
Americans who are ignorant of the facts choose to be ignorant because they are living in a bubble that nobody better burst for them. There are enough truth tellers in this country to educate everyone. It’s just that most people don’t want to know the truth.

When Australia was threatened with invasion by the Japanese in 1942, all of their fighting men were in North Africa, defending British imperial interests(the Suez Canal). When the news became public that a division of U. S. infantry had secretly arrived on Aussie soil, the people were greatly relieved. The Japanese sent an invasion force to take Port Morseby, but were turned away by the United States Navy at the Battle of Coral Sea. You may want to watch a documentary of that battle, as it had a direct bearing on the future prosperity of Aussies and Kiwis, as well as the USA. There are some cases where we Americans shouldn't get involved however in my opinion I stand by the quote " if you're asked to be a hero, be a hero". We should be able to mind our own business but when humanity requests support and we need to come together as people that's a beautiful thing as well. If someone asks us to be a hero we should be the hero that goes for even people in general on a non political side. If someone asks you for help you aren't human to deny them that help. If you're asked to be the hero you should always be a hero.

As you guys rightly pointed out, things have changed significantly for the world (not just the U.S.) after WWII when it came to rebuilding and maintaining the peace. It’s a lot to digest, but I would also point out, that while Europe and Asia were in the process of rebuilding - and the U.S. helped established a United Nations to help prevent wars - America was asked to maintain security against a spreading Communism while European nations were rebuilding their economies.
I’ll say again, the U.S. was asked to stay in place while Europe 1) rebuild and 2) reinforce their own security while their economies got back on their own two feet. The former happened with mixed results, while the latter pretty much never happened. The U.S. spends billions of dollars to maintain overseas bases, even while funding the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to deter the spread of totalitarianism and a United Nations to respond to humanitarian and security matters. Despite this, there hasn’t been much of a push from Europe for the U.S. to retrieve its military assets from overseas. Many Americans question “Why is this so? And why must we do it?”
The answer comes in many forms and the debate is far and wide, but the consensus among many Europeans has been “why change the status quo? Why should Europe spend billions for that which America has kept and maintained successfully with their own taxes dollars so well?” Former President Trump (like him or leave him) has posited that a withdrawal from these spaces will force Europe to start paying for more of their own security - especially in light of the fact that NATO, nor the UN has done much to fight the types of aggression that happen every few years, even though it was founded (and funded) to deter and prevent it.
So, “World Police” is not a badge that the U.S. wears particularly proudly. It may simply be a job other nations have refused to applied themselves towards. Americans like me would love for Eastern and Western Europe to say “we have prevent or deterred an aggression toward Ukraine all on our own. So thanks America, but since it impacts us more, we have it covered.” Maybe one day.
Your family has learned more about the U.S. in the last year than 99% of Americans do in their lifetime. Impressive.
As an American, I look at it this way. If one of our allies is attacked and we can help, we should. In the late thirties if the allies had not appeased Hitler ant took put an end to the Nazi regime when it first started maybe a lot more lives would have been saved.
