Ambassador.. The Legend. My grandfather bought it in 1984. We still have it, though it is resting inside the garage. No plans to sell it. And yes we take it out for long drives once every month. Proud of it.

My grandfather used to travel in it. He was a deputy commissioner. When we used to go to our village in this car, people from nearby villages used to gather to see this car.
Back then we had 2 ambassadors both had almost VIP nos.417 and 782.😍 Dude and i still love this car.. whenever i see this car on road i just stand aside and wait for the car to get away from my vision.😍😍😍 Its seats were like a normal size indoor couch. One of the car had the gear system near the steering wheel which we then modified and shifted to normal one. Car with no. 782 was a bit new and had all the best features back then. Seats were same iconic ones. Thanks dude for recollecting my old memories .....
I hope to see a perfectly restored original HM Ambassador someday. As a car guy you'd always want to see a restrained restoration of the Ambassador as the classic car that it is rather than making it something it's not, something like a friggin' Sumo here (the bush guard with the fog lights) Sigh. Perhaps a classy Wine Red metallic one with Classic chrome hub-cap wheels and tan brown leather on the inside. Perfection. 👌
Brother tail lights are not aftermarket, they are ambys own lights, by the way we have used amby in our family more than 20 years. 😎 Our childhood memories are attacted with our amby. So you dont know more than me. 😎

It wasn't the 1st car made in India as that title probably goes to GM or the Rootes group or some company from before the socialist policies of the newly independent India. Although what I think you mean is that its the 1st car made in India by and Indian company and not a foreign business setting up shop in the British Raj even though the Hindustan Ambassador is essentially just a badge-engineered Morris Oxford MkIII with a few facelifted models over the years.
Come to Kolkata u will find roads flooded with ambassadors from govt officials, ministers ,taxi drivers( iconic yellow taxis ) to d common man. .many people still maintain the old ambassadors & give it a spin on roads even today

Perfect review but to add on I own an 1800isz manual steering variant of 2011 which has clocked only 12k kms till date without any single modification,to be honest the manual steering drives better & well the top speed is close to 155kmph though the engine sounds more than the music system

As far as I know in 90s entire generation will travel in an ambassador with atleast 7 to 10 ppl. No big sophistication or luxury but a car filled only with happiness....
