The disabled and elderly in remote isolated locations simply DO have limited options available to them and that impoverished environment surely serves to coerce them to request euthanasia or assisted death regardless of the testimony of some disabled spokesperson in Oregon. When you add to this situation the suspicions of oppressed minorities (e.g., Australia's aboriginals in their Northern Territories, Canada's Inuit, etc.) of the rich remote dominant culture, those suspicions further serve to coerce them to request euthanasia or assisted death. Australia's and Canada's dominant culture seem not to care about such concerns. They care only about their own autonomy. That's irresponsibly selfish and short-sighted.

In Canada and Australia, people with disabilities both mental or physical do have options because of their countries health care systems. More able-bodied people in Canada and Australia commit suicide than disabled people. Assisted Suicide is for those suffering terminal illness who cannot be treated for their pain. Joan seems to be talking from Adolf Hitler's idea of ideal humanity and not reality.
