  • At Madrasana, we occasionally experiment with new music genres, and the MadRasana Music Festival 2023 was one such occasion. This show featured The Indian Choral Ensemble (TICE) . Not only was the music different, but its presentation was also unique. The ensemble consisted of nearly 40 singers and four instrumentalists, with the singers spread throughout the auditorium to create a true surround sound experience. Except for the musicians on stage, almost all the singers' audio was captured using just a pair of microphones placed at the back. You may hear some audience noise, but when listened to on headphones, it provides a full acoustic sound experience. Try it out and let us know what you think!
"Omanathinkal Kidavo" is a Malayalam lullaby composed by Irayimman Thampi to celebrate the birth of Maharajah Swathi Thirunal of Travancore.

Just wow. The skeptical audience delivering a thunderous applause at the end proves how impactful this presentation was in person. Beautiful presentation indeed! 👏👏👏

This lullaby was composed by Irayimman Thampi at the request of Maharani Gowri Lakshmi Bai of Travancore to put the baby Maharaja Swati Thirunal (yes the legend musician) to sleep. The song is in Malayalam.
      Translation
Is he he bright crescent's moon, or the serene flower of the lotus,
The honey in a flower, or the lustre of the full moon,
A pure coral gem, or the pleasant chatter of parrots,
The enchanting ballet of peacock, or the cuckoo that sings most harmonious panchamam
A bouncing young deer, or a bright shining swan,
A treasure from God, or the pet parrot in the hands of goddess,
The tender leaf of the parijatham, or the fruit of my tree of fortune,
A golden casket I made, to enclose the jewel of my love,
The Amruth that I kept for my eyes, or a light to dispel darkness,
The seed of my climbing fame, or a never-fading bright pearl,
The brilliance of the sun to dispel all the gloom of misery,
The ultimate meaning from the books, or the meticulous and mellifluous veena
The lovely blossom put forth by the stout branch of my tree of enjoyment,
An inflorescence of jasmines, or palm sugar sweet on the tongue,
The fragrance of musk or the best of all good,
A breeze laden with the scent of flowers, or the essence of purest gold,
A bowl of thickened pure milk, or of sweet smelling rosewater,
The field that grows all virtue, or an abode of all duty,
A cup of thirst-quenching cold water, or a sheltering shade,
A never fading marigold flower, or my own stored up wealth,
The auspicious object of my gaze, or my most precious jewel of thought
A stream of virtuous beauty, or a game of young black Krishna,
The bright forehead mark of the goddess Lakshmi?
Is it, in this beautiful form, an Avataram of Krishna Himself?
Or, by the mercy of Padmanabha, is it the source of my future happiness.
