  • Chamorros and Hawaiians love Spam in their recipes. This is the Chamorro Guam food Spam kelaguen recipe with onions, lemon and pepper. Spam with lemon, onions, and pepper makes for a refreshing salad side dish, especially with white rice or the CHamoru flour titiyas.     INGREDIENTS
    Set 1
    1 - 12 oz. can reduced sodium Spam
    2-2.5 t. lemon powder
    ¼ c. minced onions
    2 T. green onions
    ¼ - ½ t. hot pepper
    Tools: medium plastic bowl, wooden spoon

    Spam kelaguen -- When it snows even just an inch in Holly Springs, NC -- it can be quite a panic in the grocery stores. I opted to cook and bake instead of buy to avoid the store -- titiyas, Spam kelaguen, and fried Spam instead of bread and such. I made Spam kelaguen yesterday and plan on making titiyas today:

    For the Chamorro spam kelaguen don’t you have to use fresh lemon and hot pepper , cause that how Chamorro people use fresh ingredients to use on there food and also you can use any type of spam to make kelaguen

      Hafa Adai Nikkie, yes, we generally use fresh lemon for most of our kelaguen. Lemon powder is more concentrated and convenient...doesn't spoil as fast as fresh lemon. There can also be a bitter edge with fresh so some folks prefer not to use real lemon. It just depends on how you like to make your kelaguen. I like using regular or low-sodium Spam, but you can use whatever flavor you like....as long as you enjoy the taste. Thanks for stopping by!!! :-)
