Many folks feel that it's unprofessional for a FH to ask for payment up front for funeral services-this is what I've learned as a FD trainee 40 yrs. ago and it made sense: Once the body is buried, nothing can be repossessed & the casket cannot be restocked. It didn't happen often, but families who didn't pay would be produced an invoice for the balance due prior to the funeral service. If they could not pay, a public announcement would be made that there would not be a service & the body would be loaded & returned to the FH. Usually someone at the gathering would front the balance to lighten the embarrassment. It was always made very clear to families upon making arrangements of this policy. I've learned to tell them before going into the casket selection room that it was not a car dealership & that the $3.000 model they select (with loved one in it) would not be seen after the service & won't be driven home. At first it was an awkward statement to make, but learned that a FH is a business for profit like any other. That policy hasn't changed.

As far as straightening limbs and things, I remember attending a funeral 20 years ago or so for a young woman at church who'd died because of a car crash. She had been in a coma for months and probably had a lot of brain damage. As we all filed by the casket I noticed her hands were balled up into fists but I can imagine it's probably difficult if not impossible to straighten out something like that. I still remember it because it was the first time I had seen a dead body since a great aunt when I was a child, so it stuck with me.
One RUclips channel I watch is "Hollywood Graveyard". Arthur the host visit's graves of mostly actors. Quite interesting to see where the famous actors are laid to rest at. Some you would think would have elaborate mausoleum's but instead just a simple grave marker. Quite a number of them are cremated which really surprised me. Some people still flock to see, Marilyn Monroe with the lipstick stained marble crypt marker to Rudolph Valentino's.
