Prof. John Lennox, Dr. William Lane Craig. Prof. Alister McGrath - these guys exorcised the spirits of humanism and scientism unknowingly entrenched in my soul and mind by modern education. Even raised as a Christian I wrestled with this underlying atheist worldview in science against my belief. I can’t express what joy and satisfaction I have that ALL the evidence points to God whom I already met as my Savior.
I must add that even while I waited for the evidence, I already had peace in my heart that I knew the truth. What Christian apologetics did was to confirm my conviction and answer logical questions, not give me my belief in the first place. Thank God for raising these men to speak to a young generation who are being misled every day in classrooms permeated by an atheistic worldview. Thank God!

I've watched two of Professor Lennox's lectures, this and the one he speaks of in the last minute, I've been "of faith based on observation" since about four or five, a committed, born-again Christian since my time in Beirut, 82-83, these two lectures have been some of the most brilliant deductive reasoning answers, and inductive as well, as I've ever heard or seen. I'm but an amateur student of the sciences, a lifetime mechanic, electronics tech, and metallurgist, but have spent my life reading, and find the Professor's reasoning, impeccable, carefully explicated, and in every way, sound.
I've been enjoying u-tube lectures increasingly, having stumbled across them, and these two have been some of the most interesting, because they speak what I've only felt, and never put words to.
A real honor and pleasure to enjoy.

      John Lennox can't be serious.
What he lacks in reasoning is made up by his lovely accent as he preaches to the choir about fantasyland.
God helps those helping themselves is a saying because gods have a perfect record of nothing doing outside of fiction.
I hear appeals to strong emotions, a common tool among podium jockeys.

      The religious have no quality-controls.
God knows, god helps those helping themselves is a saying because gods have a perfect record of nothing doing outside of fiction. One might expect a deity to make itself known to everyone without work performed in interpretations of old literature by guys like our verbose podium jockey. Who in their right mind promotes travel as if best done with one foot in fantasyland vocabulary. Freud wrote the antidote to Christianity is literacy. Nothing fails like prayer in a children's hospital, and these wolves in sheep's clothing advocate prayer & faith verbiage. Even Jesus Christ said faith was worthless if you can't move mountains by issuing voice commands.
What is moral or ethical about suggestions of travel with one foot in some religious fantasyland?
      A house divided cannot stand.
We vote because Christians have no quality-controls, & we desire those governing not making suggestions travel is best done with one foot in someone's fantasyland.
'Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.''
      Come, let us worship Jesus.
Let us all forget it was secular law & order ending the inquisitions & witch-killings.
Let us forget we have a saying: God helps those helping themselves, because gods have a perfect record of doing nothing.
Let us ignore nothing fails like prayer in a children's hospital.
Let us ignore a wicked generation seeks signs.
Theologians grant the titles to each other without a deity certification.
A deity unable to be acknowledged by everyone is a forgery based on literature.
Oppression builds character among the dominated.
Who do you think nailed the king of the Jews, when Imperial Rome controlled temples & publications?
Just for the fun of it, have their Messiah say render to Caesar?
      My sheep hear my voice.
Think not I come with peace, but sword.
The literate of the age; built religions & made propaganda, devalued the currency, too.
Marvel not I say you are all gods, and so on & so on.
Faith is a fantasyland term, & the Christians hate to hear it.
If faith had any value, then you could move mountains by voice-command.
We know there is no god outside of fiction.
Freud wrote the antidote to Christianity is literacy.
The Christians slapped their books on the Old Testament, & the Mormons glued theirs on to them both, thus proving Christians lack quality-control.
Think not I come with peace, but sword.
I come to divide this that and the other thing, & I give you tax exempt status.
"Furthermore, whenever any person or group of persons in a position of great power, and without the full knowledge and consent of the public, uses such knowledge and methodology for economic conquest -- it must be understood that a state of domestic warfare exists between said person or group of persons and the public."
      You can't be serious.
God is an absurdity outside of fiction.
It is the religious who don't have ears to hear, being a wicked generations seeking signs.

@@mick1gallagher I asked you if you think all educated religious people are con artists. How can you infer from that question that I am saying God looked after John Lennox as opposed to the children of Africa? You're going to have a hard time charging others with irrationality when you come on like that.
People who believe in God don't think that God personally orchestrates all the happenings of the world. Book sales are clearly not examples of divine intervention, considering that John Lennox's main opponents are multimillionaire authors themselves, and they have much larger audiences in their native countries. Richard Dawkin's work is more popular in the UK, and Sam Harris' is more popular in the US, and I would imagine that both of them are more popular than John Lennox across the commonwealth also.
As for Africa, similarly to the book sales, economics isn't a venture of God. People starve in Africa because the leaderships of most African countries deny the implementation of free markets because they want to maintain control through beurocratic cronyism and totalitarianism. Free markets lead to opportunity and independent prosperity. The periods in history when African nations have implemented these systems they have seen massive reductions in poverty. The data is out there if you want to navigate the world with more reliable information than just the cliches you offered me. No offense, but what you said was weak. I'm not trying to belittle you, but man-to-man that's the truth.
By the Christian faith the intervention of God is upon request. Individuals have been given free will. Though they are part of a creation they have enclosed within them the individual identity, hence the notion that they are made in God's image. That's what that means. Suffering is a part of the experience of living but it is not of such dire consequence to God in a similar fashion to how you would not panic about a character in a video game being killed when you it's just a game. By the christian view there is at the basis of all individuals an immortal soul. This is the player of the game.
Have you put any serious effort into finding out if the naturalist/materialist view holds up at its basis? You might be surprised. It's not just Christian apologists that see the holes in these theories. And if the holes are there to be seen by all those who go and look, why is it that they aren't common knowledge? I would suggest taking that same skeptical eye of yours and focusing it on the people who profit from belief in materialism.

I mostly agree but most mathmatical formulas are descriptions of the natural world. We haven't a clue what energy, gravity, magnetism etc are. We just observe and measure what happens consistently and give the properties of what's seen a name to designate it. As we understand more we are able to take advantage of it. Its a given thing that we forget our dependence of consistency in the universe. Scientists these days need a big helping of humble pie.

    • @qlddave
      @qlddave 10 лет назад +1

jamie Russell Hi Jamie, not sure you really understand what you just said. According to what you said we do not know what a flowers are, we just observe and measure them and give them a names.
Humans may be dependent on the cosmological constants, but that presupposes that the universe was made for US. We have no idea what life may have formed and how if the universe was made a "different" way. In fact if gravity was different we may be stronger live longer or have evolved to be shorter and lived as long as turtles.
We do KNOW what energy, gravity, and magnetism are. To say we do not, is to say we do not "know" anything. Everything we KNOW is observed. When you turn the door knob and the door unlocks and opens, you know this will happen, because you have observed it, and it does it consistently. That is knowledge.

John Lennox says it all with his statements "I do not wish to engage specifically with Hawking's science. That is beyond my range of competence". Instead he does what anybody intellectually lazy and dishonest will do, an argument from ignorance as he admits. I don't understand it, therefore God. 9:22 (Stephen Hawking) No Atheist ever questions the slightest move from Agnosticism to Atheism, or less, attribute it to senility. But when a philosopher and one of their own changes to Theism, oh they jump on him and accuse him of senility. (Antony Flew).
There is such a double standard. If they are not so, and if senility is a proper explanation for someone's change in views, they should have attributed Hawking's newly switch to Atheism and materialism as a result of senility and dismiss his case as well.
    Just an observation.
I find that John Lennox is very gracious and gentle, referring to Hawking's switch as being a change from reticence to outspokenness. Such respect. Guess I have much to learn in terms of 2 Tim 2:25

One of the apostles explained it perfectly when he said the reason people don't want to believe there's a God is because they love their sin. It's either or with God. There's no gray area with him and that's what atheists like to make you think and or believe. When in reality - they simply think they'll lose their so called 'freedom' to sin - and yet in actuality they are in bondage. I love this man's way of 'preaching' the gospel with his ability to use science against the 'opinions' they have. All they can do is speculate, theorize and have an opinion and people follow this rubbish. It's not easy to be a Christian in an apostate world, or to follow in Christ's footsteps, because it's so contrary to man's sin nature. It's amazing when someone truly does believe on Jesus and begins the journey as a pilgrim and knows he is only passing through this life and it's tests. But is so worth it to trust and be loved by the creator who gave us a chance to have eternal life and his love is so freely given and to trust in someone you can't even see or hardly begin to understand. But we have the free will to choose which path we want to go on and a book (that's forever been the no. 1 best seller)with 66 books in it to help us learn his ways. God's mercies are what I love the most about him. He is so faithful and so good to us and is there for us whenever we need him or just want to tell him we love him too. Interesting God is all about love and that is the one thing an atheist just can't reason with. He's spirit and truth. I guess they figure they'd rather take their chances and find out after they die and not before. Wonder where all these great high and mighty egotists are now? People who outright defied God like Steve Jobs , Steven Hawkings, John Lennon and the list is quite long. Am so glad to be a nobody who has no title or real education, that I decided to just believe there was a being named Jesus who said he loved me and believed it. Glad I never had money or prestige now.

When, and only when, they understand that they indeed belong to a religion, then we can get down as to who holds the most accurate and truthful religion out there. For Atheists to attempt to claim "neutrality", in reference to God, is a
complete cop out and disingenuous intellectually. They have indeed picked a side. They choose their religion based on what they believe is evidentiary to their presuppositions. Denying what they believe, and hold as truth, may be an easier pill for them to swallow but they are only attempting to deceive themselves.

29:00 Lennox explains that design is a scientific cause
Here's my explanation for ID theory:
    1) Design is a scientifically observable cause for the order in material structures.
    2) Everything in the universe is either designed or structured via natural laws
    3) Everything in the universe undergoes change via natural laws, even designed things
ID then is the science developing the tools necessary to distinguish the order created by nature from the order created by design.

One certainly does not expect such explanations from John Lennox as indicated at 29:14:00 when he said that " We are asked to explain the jet engine", and he goes on to elaborate:-
    1. Speaking in terms and referring to the mechanical and thermodynamic cycle of the jet engine, that is one explanation.
    2. Saying that it was the personal invention of Sir Frank Whittle. Well, that is a statement but is no explanation!
It is like asking someone, to describe, " What does your sister look like?" and he replies, she looks like my mother" That is not much help in getting to know and to recognize the sister, at a bus depot!
Anyway, I must say, that I admire this " team of theist and a-theist speakers", for their eloquence and rich language vocabulary. Also the variation in their accent, their color, and their barrenness, their acting and style and deportment, and diction. It is interesting that the religious ones are the most elegant speakers as their principal tool is their eloquence and to subtly awaken the emotions of the audience through using the right stirring with language. They are not simply painting the picture with the use of language but they are using it as a tool to mold the listeners' minds, ever so slowly to simmer them with the right rate of change of temperature, for just the right duration. They are good entertainers, but not for their rationality, as that cannot be when they base their beliefs on faith.

11:50 Hawking: Philosophy "...has not kept up with modern developments in science, particularly in physics." Um, I don't think he understands what philosophy is. Philosophy is the method by which we answer questions about the information provided by the other sciences, and even ask questions about the nature of those sciences themselves; it is the mother of all scientific disciplines. Ironically, Hawking's entire book is in fact philosophy; no matter how one impugns philosophy one cannot escape doing it. The only question is whether one is doing philosophy poorly, that is unclearly, or doing it well. Why are atheists always such poor thinkers, aka, bad philosophers?

theology is unnecessary because Hawking, Sean Carroll, Lawrence Krauss have been able to created model of the universe to fit the data without invoking god...this Lennox guy is only picking on Hawking because he's not there to defend himself... I want to see him debate Sean Carroll.... You have to prove that your god exists without including the god of the gaps first

***** lennox found 3 points of logical fallacy in Hawkings work.
He also assumes much of it.
Krauss has been hammered by a fellow Professor of physics for dishonesty.
And there is a debate with Lennox and Dr Ravi zacharias against Hawking.
Hawking is not as intelligent as he thinks he is.
And all those 3 guys are chance of the gaps theorists.
Saying millions of years did it is no different than saying God did except saying that an intelligence(which most honest physicists actually concur) did it which we can see in our universe through physics is far more rational.
Multi award winning physicist Dr Paul davies stated that the laws of of our universe are designed to allow life to exist, with pin point accuracy...that is not a random thing.
Only an intelligent mind could of done that.
Cosmologist for NASA John o'keefe also said our universe has evidence of design by intelligence.
Hawkings work is ancient now and isn't relevant.
Neil degrasse tyson is also in trouble for stating opinion instead of facts in his cosmos documentary.
He's also been deleted from wickipedia.
I'd like to see a debate between creationist Astro physicist Dr Jason lisle ph.D.
      And Tyson.
"I think only an idiot can be an atheist.
We must admit that there is a great power or force of intelligence in our universe that got it all started in the first place"

Steven Pounsett "Multi award winning physicist Dr Paul davies stated that the laws of of our universe are designed to allow life to exist, with pin point accuracy...that is not a random thing..." It seems like you're underestimating your god, because if he was omnipotent he'd created any life in any condition he/she want... Plus can you define life and how do you know another form of life couldn't exist if the conditions changed? plus which parameter are you talking about?
"Saying millions of years did it is no different than saying God did except saying that an intelligence(which most honest physicists actually concur) did it which we can see in our universe through physics is far more rational."
Well say billion of years, through biological evolution, by natural selection, it's not magic, it's well explained if you actually looked at the evidence...God did it has no explanatory power, and Stephen Hawking isn't a biologist to explain how life evolved in a physics book..
"Cosmologist for NASA John o'keefe also said our universe has evidence of design by intelligence." Just because it looks designed doesn't necessarily means it is, you have to demonstrate that... In fact how do we demonstrate design? we do it by comparing designed things from things that occur naturally...For example a watch was design, but sand wasn't design it occurred naturally... A robot is designed, but humans occur naturally etc...
I think only idiots are creationists because as people say if all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail...which pretty much summarizes the creationist arguments.."it looks designed therefore it is designed..." very dumb

***** oh you're one of those...
      What dawkins says is ridiculous.
Just because it looks designed it wasn't???
That makes no sense, hes in such self delusion its not funny.
He's basically saying if it looks like a duck, acts like a duck and sounds like a duck its... its bottle nosed doplphin.
Ummm no richard... its a duck. You just refuse to admit that.
he said the cell has all the hall marks of an ingenious engineered machine... yet he thinks random unguided processes and accumulation of error did it????
Dawkins is obviously in the early stages of dementia.. and denialism.
When was the last time he or anyone saw something as complex as a cell come from natural unguided processes?
Geez I know guys with masters degrees in chemisty(also studying theology) and masters degrees in engineering who think he's a loony.
And there is absolutely no scientific way to prove if anything evolved at all.
Even the famous evolutionist Stephan j gould admitted that.
Professor David snoke, a leading biologist and researcher for intelligent design has also said he and many colleagues are training up a new generation of young scientists to think like enginners.
So in conclusion if it looks designed its probably not is one giant cop out.
For people like you that do not want to admit the blatantly obvious design in our universe.
By the way astro physicist Neil degrasse tyson is currently in a bit of strife for citing opinion other than fact in his Cosmos documentary.
He has also been deleted from wickipedia.
I wonder how many other evolutionists are going to follow.
Because assumption is not scientific fact.
      By the way

***** you might like to read up on Nuclear physicist Dr Lee spetner ph.Ds book The Evolution revolution.
In it he shows how natural selection is not evolution and that new genetic information cannot arise from copying error.
But any computer programmer could tell you that.
Also there is research by associate professor of molecular genetics Dr Georgia purdom ph.D
Shes written over 120 plus research papers for secular and creationist journals.
Also she's written about very recent discoveries in our DNA
Found a whole new set of undiscovered coding and more.
Also geneticist ph.D jeffrey Tomkins has done the same and Dr jake Hebert ph.D
DNA is itself evidence of an intelligent designer.
"The God of the Bible is also the God of the genome, he can be worshipped in the cathedral and lab"
Former atheist turned christian Professor francis collins ph.D geneticist.
Also look up the research by Russ Humphreys phD.
      Also ex evolutionist turned creationist.

I've read Hawking's book too, a brief history of time. Hawkings doesn't go through the trouble of explaining why all matter exists. He simply puts forward the no boundary principle, which means the universe never had a real beginning, but stretched finite in the past. Hawking never went over his head, he basically just said the universe always existed in a sense. I don't know why more atheists don't talk of this. Krauss went over his head with this, I can agree. He's taken the hardest road.

You are absolutely right. But the problem for the naturalistic approach to understanding life and the universe, is just that, that materialism broke down when quantum mechanics was discovered. Bohr said that what we consider the real world, is made of atoms which are in themselves not real. That is why philosphy is not dead, but is needed more than ever.

John - When you consider who we are, what we are, why we are here and how we relate to the universe, you will read what I say about life you will either support me or want to destroy me. Almighty God knew when his son returned he would have to invite people to kill him so that people would believe who he is and what he represents - John it is great to know you represent the belief in the existence of a creator who is far beyond our comprehension. Thank you for your wisdom.

What I said was that it's completely possible for the universe to function without a prime mover, not that there couldn't possibly be a prime mover. If you think the universe is some sort of play toy for some supernatural being, you can believe what you like. But, like I said, the universe in it's current state has no need of that assumption in order for it to work, which many theists claim.
Also, Krauss's work is backed up by experimental data involving virtual particles, it's well documented
