53:07: 📚 There are clues in nature and the human genome that suggest the existence of an intelligent mind behind them.
56:27: 🤔 The debate between science and God is still relevant, but there is a shift towards focusing on meaning and identity; Christians should engage with other worldviews and religions.

Nothing fails like prayer in a children's hospital.
What is moral or ethical about suggesting people believing they hear the voice of god, or understand the mind of a deity by the bible?
Has anyone, ever, seen a deity do anything outside of fiction? Don't you think if a deity exits & everyone is not aware of it, then the deity title is being fudged a tad bit? The Christians slapped their books on the OT, & the Mormons glued theirs on to them both.
Professor John Lennox is a showman, of the lord Monkton, God of the gaps, sophistry kind.
Any deity outside of fiction which is unknown to everyone is bearing witness to fudging the deity scam, producing theater in an immoral or unethical space.
It was secular law & order ending the witch-burning & inquisitions of those with special relationships with fiction.
Christians don't have any quality-control, so we vote to govern away from those proposing we travel best with one foot in fantasyland. He preaches to the choir & all he has to do is be cheerful, name drop, & sell books. Freud wrote the antidote to Christianity is literacy. Gods, outside of fiction, have a perfect record of doing nothing, so we have a saying: God helps those helping themselves. Even Jesus, The Nailed, knows faith is worthless if you can't move mountains by voice-command.

This was the opinion of Galileo Galilei, Robert Boyle, Michael Faraday, James Maxwell, Isaac Newton, Blaise Pascal and Louis Pasteur. Of the Nobelists in Science over 60 % believe in intelligent design (statistics 1900-2000).
Also Nikolaus Kopernikus, Johannes Kepler, Galileo Galilei, Isaac Newton, Robert Boyle, Michael Faraday, Joseph Priestley, James Clerk Maxwell, Gregor Mendel (founder of modern genetics), Lord Kelvin and Albert Einstein.
In addition, in believers there were also many pioneers of Quantum Physics: Werner Heisenberg, Max Plank, Erwin Schrödinger, James Jeans, Louis de Broglie, Wolfgang Pauli and Arthur Eddington.
Also the scientists of our era like the astrophysicists Paul Davies, Simon Conway Morris (professor of evolutive paleobiology at Cambridge), Alasdair Coles (professor of neuro-immunology at Cambridge), John Polkinghorne (ex professor of mathematical physics at Cambridge, Russell Stannard, Freeman Dyson ... and Francis Collins who led the team of 2,400 international scientists in the Human Genome -project and was an atheist, until he in the age of 27 became a Christian.
Natural sciences started to decline only after Charles Darwin 10 years from the publication of his "Origin of Species" (in 1859) got support of the majority, mainly for political reasons.

Can Lennox define God? I think not. Describing God is not what I mean. The trouble with most religious devotees is that their concept of God is either wrong or incomplete. That includes this Lennox. Quoting the Bible is also of no use. You can find anything you like in the Bible, but that will not convince those except the gullible.

When I was 8 in 1963, walking to catch a bus to school, I was hit in the back by an abusive person. I blacked out. When I awoke, the bus driver was standing over me. He had seen the attack and parked the bus. He said to my abuser, "It's a good thing for you she woke up!" I could hardly breathe. All the breathing sacks in my lungs felt shattered. He helped me onto the bus and when we got to school, he took me to the school nurse, who made me lie down. The doctor and the police were called. Since it was a Catholic school, the priest was called, too. He was out visiting other sick and dying people. The doctor came first. He said there was nothing he could do for me. He said my lungs were filling with blood and I was only breathing with the very top of my lungs. It had felt like my lungs were ripped inside with shards of cut glass, but as the blood filled them, they felt hot and heavy, and the pain went away where no air could get through the cuts the blow had shattered through my alveoli. Two nuns stayed with me, comforting me. Two policemen came and said they would arrest the person who did this to me as soon as I would go to Heaven. Finally, the priest came and gave me Jesus in Holy Communion. Then he anointed me with the Sacrament of Extreme Unction. I felt the Holy Spirit in the blessed oil like a golden, glowing warmth that flowed from my forehead down into my lungs. As the warmth flowed from the top of my lungs to the bottom, I felt them instantly heal. Then I fell immediately asleep. When I awoke, it was almost time to go home. The nuns had a hot lunch for me to eat. The police and the doctor had left, since I had been miraculously healed. Praise God! This happened in Pleasant Hills, Pennsylvania. Jesus, God the Son, is really Who He said He is, and He still lives and works today

      2) Whatever admiration given to imperfect human beings here on earth won't make, even one step closer to SALVATION/ETERNAL LIFE in the KINGDOM OF GOD.
      3) But giving the ADMIRATION and PRAISES to the LORD JESUS CHRIST/SON OF GOD for the TRUTH he revealed which are all written in the HOLY BIBLE (KJV) would make ALL THE WAY to SALVATION/ETERNAL LIFE in the KINGDOM OF GOD/FATHER (John 14:6).

I thank God for being alive because my parents, if they weren't Christians, probably would have decided on an abortion. The moral Christian view is why I live today with faith in Jesus Christ, Who first suffered for me before my own individual suffering, with a meaning for eternal life. I love God and I believe He loves me as mankind he died for. I have decided to accept Jesus, repudiate sin but love the sinner.

Managerial Truth (joke) - A man flying in a hot air balloon realizes he’s lost. He spots a man below and shouts, “Excuse me, can you help me? I promised my friend I’d meet him half an hour ago, but I don’t know where I am.” The man below replies, “Yes. You’re in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above the ground. You’re at 40 degrees latitude and 58 degrees longitude.” The balloonist says, “You must be a manager.” The man replies, “I am! How did you know?” The balloonist says, “Everything you told me is technically correct, but it’s of no use to anyone.” The manager retorts, “You must be an engineer.” The balloonist says, “I am! How did you know?” The manager replies, “Well, you don’t know where you are or where you’re going, but you expect me to solve your problem. You’re in the same position you were before we met, but now it’s my fault!”

Never was true, as in some of the art and writing post Newton where people were trying to establish subliminal and instinctive feelings based truth. Certainly never held by top level scientists. Currently widely rejected by post truth and anti-science cultural developments across the world from anti-vaccination in Northern Nigeria and Pakistan to USA, even Michael Gove in UK who "Had enough of experts". • @patrickthomas2119
      @patrickthomas2119 Год назад +1

The problem is even deeper then that. To be truly great in one particular field is almost going to require sacrifices of knowledge in other areas. There is no way to be an expert or even deeply knowledgeable of multiple fields. Really truly genius minds can maybe truly master 2 to 3 subjects but those are very rare. This means that an expert in the field of physics is going to have only a basic knowledge of other fields of science and be near utterly devoid of knowledge in non science fields (such as theology or philosophy). The dangerous thing is those experts in one field have arrogantly elevated their own abilty to think and reason to assume they are smart enough to know the ins and outs of subjects they have not studied without dedicating any real effort toward understanding it. And that is even more dangerous because people that are not as smart or ignorant will
Listen to those ‘experts’ even though they are not experts of that field. So you have the arrogant ignorant filling the incidental ignorant with ignorance.

Truth is what is. Said another way, truth is what exists, historically, presently, and what will exist. The primary truth is God. He desires us to know that, thus, His very name. God, being omniscient knows that if we don't grasp the primary, the fundamental, foundational, then giving us further truth is irrelevant. We are not in the year 2023 supposed to be discovering what truth means, We should be a sevaral thousand years smarter than that. My two cents, but free today.

Here’s why: By God’s Word (Jesus) We are created, and the “breath of Life(Jesus) that carries the Word gave us consciousness. Genesis 2:7 “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

This was truly a great interview. I wish for an interview with John Lennox going through the issue of pain and suffering and I would like for you to ask him why pain and suffering are used as an excuse to not believe in a kind god and refuse to realize that our rebellion against god is actually the cause of our pain and suffering and Jesus's final pain and suffering for all mankind. I realize that this is a tricky issue especially with those of who suffer greatly and apparently senselessly. I am not sure that I have said this well but I am sure that you can do a better job than I on the issue.

We are Life at large, experiencing itself as all of us simultaneously. Therefore, we are all It, to an unknowable/inexhaustible extent, as the facets of a Diamond are 'both' distinct from each other 'and' the Diamond itself.

Dismissing an idea or a question, far more powerful and potentially unassailable than the mere person holding it, by shutting the person down, does in no way negate the idea or question. It’s little more than wilful blindness.

Dr Lennox introduces the topic of suffering and evil and it's true, human beings bring this up to deny God. I'd feel the same if, unlike many I too associated God with being the cause of all the pain and suffering in this world. From the very beginning human beings have quite happily and with great, persistence and energy, set about causing as much aggravation pain, savagery and suffering in the world and upon our fellow human beings as well as all the other living, sentiment beings we share this indescribably beautiful world with.. We have free will and God does not interfere with free will. HE will guide us, but following these 'prompts' is more often than not the path we choose to turn from.. GOD DOESN'T CAUSE PAIN AND SUFFERING! We human beings don't need any help from God! We are the cause of all the pain and suffering in the world. If we put our wonderfully creative and clever minds to a better purpose, even natural disasters wouldn't be a problem. We'd also have the closer and more intimate relationship with our creator that all human beings have instinctively sought , (consciously or unconsciously) down through the ages.
Of course the earth is a Young earth. I'd say 6,000 years is more than enough time for our petty, selfish and savage selves to be allowed to remain as we are. Down through the ages Humans have repeatedly made the same mistakes. WE'RE NOT IMPROVING! Now we're downright beyond Irresponsible and dangerous! We're too irresponsible and pigheaded to be allowed to continue down the suicidal paths our science and technology is opening up for us. God won't destroy us! We're about to do it to ourselves and take our beautiful planet earth with us. I've NEVER understood why God gets blamed for 'what men do!' Not a bit of sense to that way of thinking. Understandable if we were stupid with limited imagination or creativity. But no, our creator has blessed us with every blessing, even gave a conscience, so we are 'Without Excuse'!
Many thanks to both gentlemen for this very enjoyable Debate. As always Dr Lennox never ceases to open doors as he entertains, astounds and instructs us in his lively debates and lectures.

All arguments for the Christian God is based on you liking some writings, but all big religions have their writings. Pick what you like and go with it.
You might try to use logic or the complex world to prove that god/gods exist, but that will never give you the Christian God. And all arguments I know of have been thoroughly refuted.

      @@nickbarton3191 _What_ evidence?
For example look at your own retreat to the term "creator".
      * Currently 100% of the creators we know of _aren't gods._
      * Creator means, _"a person or thing that brings something into existence."_
      * A god who creates would be a creator. But so what? So would anything else (creator-leprechauns, for example).
Imagine scientists, when asked to provide evidence of evolution (a non-intelligent process), immediately retreated to trying to show you non-intelligent processes happen. Not evolution specifically. Wouldn't that be a huge red flag that maybe science didn't know evolution was true?
Well with evolution we do know it's true. we can clearly define it and I can point you to the references section of "evolution" on Wikipedia for you to see hundreds of scientific papers _specifically indicating evolution happens._ I would never EVER retreat to some broader topic like "non-intelligent processes". And yet that's what you've done by retreating from "god" to "creator"; why isn't that a red flag to you?
Later he mentions a beginning. Well imagine Gary has a book that says leprechauns caused the universe. _Is the universe's beginning now evidence of leprechauns?_ It's a serious question, designed to get you to realize how bad Lennox's argument is. The evidence doesn't point to a god (if it did, he wouldn't be using something vague that might point to tons of things -- like the universe having a beginning), but instead we have very little knowledge about it (which Lennox himself admits). And yet that's all it takes for him to then treat this topic as evidence of a god, which seems like it should be a big red flag to you, right?
Does he even mention anything else? I couldn't find any other thing he was both (A) calling evidence and (B) providing at least a basic summary of why it should be treated as evidence of a god.

Lennox didn't provide evidence of a god existing, let alone authoring everything. That's why he's stuck with the generic word "creator" in his arguments: because the evidence doesn't actually get us to a god. (You know, like the imaginary universe where scientists argued for "non-intelligent processes" when asked to prove evolution (a specific non-intelligent process that in that fictional universe we didn't have evidence of).)
