Noam Chomsky Exposes the Real Limits of AI: Why Machines Can’t Understand Language Like Humans
Join Samuel Marusca in a fascinating discussion with world-renowned linguist and cognitive scientist Noam Chomsky, talking about the future of AI, language, mind, and consciousness. In this interview, Chomsky voices his skepticism about the current state of AI, particularly tools like ChatGPT, which he warns are not as capable as many believe. He unpacks the myths around general artificial intelligence and cautions against viewing machines as conscious or intelligent beings. Chomsky shares his deep skepticism about artificial intelligence, explaining why even a 2-year-old has more understanding and adaptability than the most advanced AI tools like ChatGPT. According to Chomsky, AI systems...

    ...no doubt, that some very good points have been made. However, the one most difficult question asked over why man suffers, leading many doubt there is a God,...was either skirted around that no one would be offended,...or John has not had it revealed to him yet. Got it so what does naturalism provide instead? It seems naturalism has a lot more flaws in its reasoning than Christianity.

    • @LGpi314
      @LGpi314 4 часа назад

      @@tbracerplays Naturalism, as a worldview, is grounded in reason, evidence, and the scientific method, aiming to explain reality based on observable phenomena and natural laws. While no system of thought is without challenges, claiming it has "more flaws" than Christianity is misguided and reductionist. Here's why: 1. **Naturalism doesn't appeal to unverifiable claims** : Christianity relies on supernatural assumptions (e.g., miracles, divine intervention, or eternal life) that lack empirical evidence. Naturalism, however, seeks explanations grounded in evidence and is open to revision when better evidence arises. This adaptability is a strength, not a flaw. 2. **Naturalism is testable and self-correcting** : Scientific principles under naturalism are tested, falsified, and refined over time. For example, our understanding of genetics, cosmology, and evolution has grown exponentially due to the willingness to question and test ideas. Christianity, in contrast, clings to unchanging dogma even when evidence contradicts its claims (e.g., flat Earth beliefs or young Earth creationism). 3. **Ethics under naturalism evolve and improve** : Unlike Christianity, which is bound to ancient moral codes riddled with problematic teachings (slavery, misogyny, divine wrath), naturalism allows morality to be assessed and updated based on human well-being and empirical data. Secular humanism is a shining example of a moral framework rooted in reason and compassion without relying on divine commands. 4. **Christianity's logical pitfalls** : Christianity claims an all-knowing, all-loving God who created the universe, yet it can't reconcile the existence of evil, suffering, and divine hiddenness. Naturalism doesn't suffer from this contradiction; it accepts suffering as a natural consequence of evolutionary processes and physical laws without invoking a contradictory deity. 5. **"Naturalism has flaws" doesn't make Christianity valid** : Even if naturalism faced challenges, that doesn't automatically validate Christianity. This is a logical fallacy known as a **false dichotomy** . The failure of one worldview doesn’t confirm another by default. The burden of proof remains on Christianity to substantiate its supernatural claims, which it consistently fails to do with evidence beyond faith. Instead of hand-waving criticisms with vague assertions, the better question is this: what explanatory power does Christianity offer that isn't already better accounted for by naturalism? Spoiler alert-it doesn’t.

    Christianity is not different from any other religion. The basic foundation of all religions is belief in myths and lies. Oh yes, the fables are different, but the principal tenet is "We are the only true religion, and everyone else is wrong" or "My god is the only true gods, all other gods are fake." Actually there is nobody who holds a Christian religion. There are more than several thousand religions under the umbrella of Christianity; these Christian religions are at odds with each other, and sometimes fight wars over their differences.

    I once heard a story that captures the irony of the 'I don’t believe in God because of suffering' argument, and I think it’s worth sharing. Imagine God hears our complaints and eliminates all our greatest fears: diseases, cancer, wars-you name it. Suddenly, we’re living in a utopia of peace, health, and harmony. But wait! The atheist pipes up: 'How can I believe in a God who lets me experience minor discomforts?' Fine, says God, and poof-no discomforts at all. Now, do you think everyone’s finally satisfied? Of course not! Someone will grumble, 'How can I believe in a God who lets me feel sad sometimes?' So, God waves a divine hand, and voilà, everyone’s eternally happy. No pain, no sadness-just perfect, perpetual bliss. But guess what? Someone will still manage to complain: 'How can I believe in a God who allows water puddles that mess up my shoes? and so on. Enough with the irony, I praise the wonderful answer given by John Lennox. God bless him for what is doing to proclaim the gospel.

Definition of faith "strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof." “Where there is evidence , no one speaks of " faith " . We do not speak of faith that two and two are four or that the earth is round . We only speak of faith when we wish to substitute emotion for evidence .” ― Bertrand Russell

They cannot know, know, what it is like to be human. Christ could not be deceived, could not be manipulated, knew the future, knew no doubt, and could perform miraculous acts. No human being can claim the same. Please do not claim that God and Christ "know our pain." They don't because they can't.

    That is correct. There is no way to quantify the longest evening. In addition, the first few days were not time slaved to the physical sun because it wasn't made yet. God was the luminary for those first days and he took as much relative time as he desired....a thing we'll never know...and that could have lasted any amount of time as we comprehend it. For all we know, these were 'million' or billion year-long days. They could have been microseconds long. Only God knows. What we are told is that those days were not anchored to the physical sun yet and therefore not restricted to 24 hrs whatsoever.

    Nobody DEFINES god as "the god of the gaps." Instead atheists expose the fallacious argument so often invoked by believers to the effect: "you can't explain the origin of the universe, therefore god did it," or "the origin of life," or "the nature of consciousness," or several other major unsolved problems. There have been innumerable cases where that fallacious theistic argument has been made and EVERY time science "closes the gap" the theists retreat to "but you still haven't explained... X... and thus god did THAT." Invalid and OH so boring.

    John Lennox is right in calling the question of suffering the most difficult at 15:19. It can be asked without the concept of "evil". It is simply the question of suffering and premature death by violence or disease. To me this still shows that there is no God. It is the only answer that I found conclusive to explain what is actually going on in the world. It is true that this leaves no hope beyond our earthly life, but that does not mean I can suddenly choose differently and will myself to believe in a God. It would be nice to have a perspective of life after death, but I think it's just a made up idea without any basis in reality.

    Biblical literalism in the West is acting as the main agent behind the decline in the faith. Centuries passed and never has any theologian or a scholar has ever taken each and every statement made in bible as if they were factual beyond reason and logos. Scholars of the faith often emphasized on how the stories of the bible were meant to be a spiritual lesson and not on creation. Most of the better scholars of the past were from the Church and never was the idea of science and religion was against each other have been preached. To this day it amazes me how lessons on faith are transpiring into science and history lessons. We have God to teach us and logos, whom are together, do not seperate them

Scripture strongly points to aspects of flat earth belief. John has always been much more honest than that. I've honestly never seen John so uncomfortable answering a question as the flat earth question. Would "X creates X" in this cosmic schema just be like saying "God(dess) creates Universe and is Always One with it." I feel like this isn't confusing to an intelligent Hindu or Western esotericist. Some of these weird "controversies" appear from outside more like prick measuring contests. Notable, it always seems to involve either some personal, definitely male god OUTSIDE EXISTENCE material or other...or it involves equally bizarre sophirties about gravity making the Universe but there's somehow in place of outside god just a quantifiable void. Or something. Both sides are grasping for something common but insist on putting a heck of a lot of ego-defense and ego-constructs into it. Let's try a thought experiment that may be helpful: Logos is the word or song or frequency reading essences in the wave to resonance. Where is Logos eternally potential? Where did Logos come from? There may already be all the scientific and religious models and allegories/iconographies for this, even in Christianity, where it is strangely obvious but also strained into implausible euhermirazions (worse, these are imposed upon dissected actual histories that I have reason to believe were more miraculous and powerful than soi-disant Christians normally do). Both tracks on these matters seem like they lead to nihilism, one maybe faster than the other, but I've learned even presenting things Socratically to people who've decided on "Christian" or "atheist" and all the nonsense that goes with either oftenmost results in reactions only psychoanalysists seem prepared for. I'm not a therapist so...I'll keep asking and stating things, but the whole programmed mind thing is a bit scary. Psychic malware.
