I totally agree with you on doing things with your own hands rather than hiring not so reliable contractors. Driving our lives rather than riding as the passengers.
It is coming along amazingly! Thank you for the inspirational talk at the end as I am nervous about selling our home of 30 years that we raised our family (our 7 kiddos) in to take this leap! What are you planning on doing for the siding? This is something we are researching. TIA!
I designed the home and then worked with our architect Caleb Norris of norrisdesignpro.com to have the plans drawn up. We have worked with him multiple times and highly recommend him.
What size core Fox Blocks are you using? At first I was thinking 8" but some of the video views appear thicker like 10" cores? Congratulations on getting the roof trusses set! Nice looking build!
Love following along! My wife and I are contemplating ICF. Can you share why it has taken so long to get to this point? Did things go much slower than expected or did you have to put things on hold for long periods? I think you said 530 days since breaking ground. How much continuous time do you think y’all have working on the project? Also, do you mind to share what you are estimating the total build to cost? Thanks SO Much!
Thats great! ICF has so many benefits! I have considered making a video addressing why our build hasn't been a fast build. A few things set us back (we were robbed twice), materials are often backordered (a downside to starting a build during the pandemic) and my husband had to travel a ton for business the past year. There are two main reasons though...we both work full time and we are building the home entirely ourselves on the weekends (we do not have a crew) AND we do not have a construction loan. Our time and funds are limited...that is why it is a slow and steady process for us. ICF is very straight forward and a supper efficient way to build. It's actually quite fast. If we had a crew of workers, and a construction loan to pay for everything up front...we would have been done with the home in a few months. That is not the case. Our goal is to build a very custom, self built home without going into debt and that takes time. When it's finished we will share "cost to build" and the appraisal of the home (how much we saved by DIYing the home) as well. I hope that helps!
