After 24 years, thanks to the Switch's N64 games, I finally made it to this point. I finished what I started when I was a little kid... I was so damn proud. One of my favorite childhood games, criminally underrated.

This is music I've never heard before. Because I wasn't smart enough to find all the things needed. Mizar's Palace music just evokes the raw emotion of running around an empty place not being able to get any farther or figure out the task at hand. I've been deprived of the nostalgia that is supposed to hit me when hearing this. Don't end up like me. Stay in tribal-finding school kids.
I admit, my story is much akin to yours. Never making it past king Jeff's seemingly impossible task, left to wander aimlessly through every level I thought I knew so well. It was too much to ask of mere children!
Started playing JFG in 2000 and finished it in late 2005. Reason? Those two damn Tribals in that house attic in Tawfret I didn't even know existed, and the earplugs. Nowadays, I listen this song every time I'm about to face a royal problem in real life (and the instances haven't been exactly few...)
Jonathan Hill true but biggest Dick move by rare was creating the beaver bother mini game in dk64 haha but those two tribals were the last ones I found as well
I just did a re-run of this game, and this song is still the best out of the whole JFG soundtrack. This is definitely THE game that marked my entire childhood. The feels were real before the final confrontation with Mizar. And yes, a true shame that a sequel/re-launch never got in the works.

I've played this game so many times that by now, I know where absolutely everything is. Even then, the FASTEST it's ever taken me to beat it is 8 hours. Eight. Freakin'. Hours. Now that's the definition of being an EPIC!
One thing ive learned, If there's one charfacter you had to load up with max capacity on homing misssles, and tri rockets, it is Juno. You need as much as you can get for the final fight against Mizar.
Defeating Mizar was almost impossible for me because I took a large part or the weapon capacity increasers intended for Juno with Lupis, so I had only 15 homing rockets
+Roy Rieder lol, I did the SAME exact thing. lupus was my favorite character so I OP'ed him with the ammo increasers. I thought for the final boss you could atleast choose or use all 3. but nope, I found out the hard way that its juno only, couldn't ever beat the game that way, he was too weak. didn't have the heart to restart because that was just waaaay too much progress to just lose. so I left it as is, a final battle that's basically impossible.
It's never impossible! You could beat that battle using only a pistol if you had too. It would take a while and be really really hard, but it wouldn't be impossible.
I remember playing this with my brothers and getting to the last boss. I was quite a young child, but even before that age I had completed many hard platformer games and other nintendo titles. This last boss really left an impression on me. Even with an above average game sense I struggled so hard, I think for several days, before I finally managed to defeat it, and I wouldn't have it any other way. What a great way to end an amazing game. This game and it's soundtrack will forever hold a dear place in my heart.
Ah yes, this level...I once was lucky enough to rent a copy as a kid, which had a file on this level, right before Mizar himself. Never took the chance to appreciate this music, and wound up continually fighting the final boss (and getting crushed each time). 11 years later, I find a cart of this on eBay, get it in my (somehow) still-alive N64, struggle my way to the finale...and oh my God, did I regret passing up this tune as a kid. Well, "better late than never," I guess.
The fear of crashing into an asteroid and not knowing what to expect. And with music like this playing in the background, makes it that much more epic.
I used to play this stage and hook it up to my stereo just to hear the music. then i would record it on tape and rap to this shit! Man i miss those days!
My dad and I really loved this game, we had to cooperate in order to get to this point... It was Friday when my mom told me that my dad was exhausted when he finally got to the asteroid... before he had to go to work he asked me to finish with Mizar... and that's what I did... ❤

I agree. This tune just SCREAMS "Final" all the way to the boss! (Except for that bit when the music changes to the Eschebone tune, and you find yourself ambushed by a hoard of superpowerful drones. That was just evil.)

To all those wonderful people of the N64 era, who puts the moment you first hear this music in their top three most epic video game moments of all time? I sure as hell do. The majority of people seem to state they took years to complete this game - and it was friggin' worth it.
i never finished, what i didnt realize is that you fight mizar with juno at the end, and juno is my least favorite character, so i never powered him up and it made fighting him nearly impossible to win cuz i spent all my time powering up lupus, and at this point, im just happy with how far ive gotten, i really dont wanna go through it all again
Beating this game (especially dealing with the whole tribal collecting shenanigans and the final boss BS) back during its release was one of the most difficult yet rewarding I've played. And this is someone who enjoys the Soulsborne series heh.
@dryzen I simply couldn't find the tribals for years. Finally, I relented and looked up an Internet guide. That one Tribal in S.S Anubis behind the stasis cell and a few on Goldwood was all I was missing at that time.

The requirements for getting here are the reason I never beat the game, for years I tried. I wish i could've experienced this level in my youth but I'm among the ones who failed. Came so close too, so close.
its basically the only game that essentially makes you 100% it just to win. you have to do all the collectables so your character can survive with health and ammo. all the sidequests are required to get the spaceship parts. and the game penalizes recklessness as you progress because they let you willingly kill the tribals when they are needed for the final part. so tri-rocket spam was frowned upon when attempting to blaze through an area.
I stopped by a game store in Long Beach called Gameplay and I saw this game there for a few bucks! I was thinking, "I hope someone scores that good deal..."
I beat Mizar #2 a long time ago. I re-played the game a couple of years ago, and got to the end ... and I can't beat him anymore. That stupid ball of lightning gives me nightmares...
@TurkeyTuck My friend you read, I didn't read I was 8 years old killing everything, I can beat it around that time even shorter now, but when the game first came out all I did was kill, I got so far and when I was stuck I bought the book to help me, but it didn't work at all just help me get more ammo caches
@Troopgirl1 I wish there was a remake! Or a sequel. Or even just a port to the new consoles. Though I imagine Rare might need some help on any of those projects.
yea that happened to me too KLW45CV9 but i had only 15 homing missles. Which pissed me off to the point where i would rather just watch the end of this game on youtube. I was just like *All that? the tribals the parts hunting the killed about 60 times for that?* i was so pissed off so now i only play that for kicks and to kill the bugs.
What planet was this? Am i missing something because i dont remember this. EDIT: Actually come to think of it i never beat the game... Sooo is this like the last stage i never got to as a child?
I never was able to get all the tribals as a kid. In the SS Anubis, there was one power node for a prison cell I could never find. I recently replayed the game after 20 some years and I found it. It was near the ceiling in the room right before the prison cells. My jaw dropped and I felt dumb, but I also got the closure of finally beating an unbeatable childhood game and it was fantastic.

Getting them wasn't hard because they had a little meter showing how many were left. Well to me. It was reading that was hard for me.
