@@coreyburns4168Ya know what, you’re right. And honestly, it’s probably better if you take Secret Invasion out of the storyline. Him losing faith in the Avengers makes NO sense, now that Rian mentions it. The only reason why that’d be important is that means the next Avengers lineup could be arranged by someone like Doom instead!
Imagine in the next saga, Doom leads the next Avengers against the new X-Men in the next saga. A war instigated from the shadows by Mr. Sinister! The main hero is Kamala Khan, who has to find the common ground with both teams to unite them. I just can’t decide if the main villain should be Doom or Sinister.

I just don't get why Secret Invasion didn' happen after The Marvels. There needed to be a catalyst for why the Skrulls try to take over, a straw that breaks the camels back. The last Skrull colony being destroyed and the sudden influx of refugees to Earth could have been that, especially since they would blame Earth heroes for the destruction. That would just make more sense and one story would be leading to another.

The Secret Invasion story for the most part makes more sense if it takes place after The Marvels, which was probably the original intent. The increased tensions of the Skrulls not having a home make more sense in the wake of their colony’s destruction. But then scheduling chaos pushed SI to air before the movie, which meant the colony existing afterwards would negate the show’s storyline. So they added a hastily filmed line about the colony existing to try to handwave over the obvious plot hole, and in the process created another one because no one was minding the store.

Also, with the Eternals, rather than starting after _Endgame_ so they're indirectly responsible for countless atrocities by inaction (the canon version), why not establish at the beginning of the film that it's in an alternate universe, really take advantage of the multiverse angle? Maybe have the Watcher, Doctor Strange, or Strange Supreme be looking in on a universe which never had Avengers. After all, the film's greatest strength was the theme of moral legislation, which goes down the toilet if Captain America morally legislated how superhumans should use their powers in the 1940s.

Thank you! Someone said it! I always appreciate seeing something about Captain Marvel.
Carols NEEDS a character driven story about failure and loss, that's what made her first outing a billion dollar film. If we had gotten your prorosed CM2, Carol would have been the glue that stuck the cosmic story lines together. Also, seeing her fail to stop a war she accidentally made into a near genocide would have been powerful to see and her redemption from it would have been even more so. I think I literally commented some of this on your previous video recently involving Carol so I'm glad to see we're on a similar wavelength in terms of our hope of a framework/meaning for the cosmic side, where the lore could have been strengthened, and how stellar and important these characters are and could be to the cosmic story's weave.

    • @mnguardianfan7128
      @mnguardianfan7128 3 месяца назад +1

Exactly! I think her character has not been served well at all by Marvel at all.
She has moments, but that is it.
Ryan is correct that she could have (should have) been at the heart of epic story lines. Especially with incredible story lines of the Kree and the Skrulls.
Her character is now tied to Ms Marvel (who I like) but not with much ability to really lead a team.
Also, as an aside, I think the misogynist hatred of Bree Larson did play a role here. Disgusting but true.

I honestly believe that the reason why Marvel doesn't seem to have a concrete plan regarding their cosmic stories is because of how James Gunn wrote and directed the Guardians. The MCU's first real step into the cosmic was with the Guardians but because Gunn put so many creative liberties into each film that the screen iterations of the Guardians have almost nothing in common with their comic counterparts, it just would've been difficult to reform some of the cosmic arcs from the comics because of the Guardians. Whatever cosmic stories that the screenwriters would've pulled from the comics would've had to have been tweaked in some capacity due to Guardians.

What's tragic is how the writing team behind Capt Marvel seems to leave their most interesting stories in flashbacks. We could've had Marvel's shortened version of Smallville with the Carol Danvers child flashbacks (which seemed to ONLY be made so the trailers could bait the radfem audience). Not sure why THIS wasn't the first half of the movie that we got...
Now we find out that the sequel that got canned for the team-up movie was the double-down of "topple the society that keeps you down!" and they didn't want to run it with the Marvels?? So we once again get just another movie with better stakes and a consistent throughline in a flashback, "The better movie 2, flashbacks strike back". Marvel definitely isn't run by the same people who took the risk with Iron man as their opening movie, either that or someone somewhere thought "nah, capt marvel is the female power fantasy, she can't be seen *losing*" and scrapped a compelling character arc (where she was actually good but not doing it the way that's best for her). Instead we just see that without her powers she was nothing, because she's a blunt instrument who doesn't show any knowledge of finesse or adaptation. I say this having never seen The Marvels.

Having been a lifelong fan of cosmic marvel (I started reading comics with Silver Surfer 50 and the Infinity Gauntlet) it’s so frustrating seeing this video because you are 100% right.
The Abnett & Lanning cosmic run are my favourite comics ever and there is such a rich untapped vein of stories there that are just begging to be made into film.
Gunn did well worth the guardians but that should have launched so much more but I dunno, feels like they’ve been holding it back??
IMO the multiverse and secret wars stories are too soon… Can only think this is because they want to bring in the existing fox roster to interact with the existing characters before they get too old (the root cause is not wanting to recast like you’ve spoken about).
Imagine the stories playing out like you detailed and then when everything seems quiet, Ultron returns after a piece of him escaped the atmosphere and combines with the Phalanx!!
They could merge the Annihilation Conquest with the Xmens Phalanx Covenant story from the 90s 🤷🏻

They should get EVERY SURVIVING AUTHOR that wrote the greats to be consultants. Are Claremont or Jim Starlin alive? (R.I.P. John Byrne, M.Gruenwald, etc.) As a Marvel Zombie that read comics from 1975-2005, I am beyond words underwhelmed by the MCU's 20 year stretch. There's been story arcs that've won Eisner Awards (Oscars for comics) that they've consistently BLOWN as you've so eloquently detailed here. With few exceptions. They could literally pull 75% dialogue straight from the books & just turn paper into film. I think the #1 problem is too much creative license and complete DISRESPECT to the glory of rich canon history & the fans. The damn writers & producers could just do slight ad lib & take all the credit.
I have little hope that they can do anything other than a COMPLETE REBOOT, hopefully after getting Spidey licenses from Sony. Retire Kevin Feige & KK. Elon Musk buys Disney. Fix Star Wars Disney era & start Marvel from scratch. Do FF right. Do least 1 movie with original X-Men, Avengers & Guardians of Galaxy. Before introducing later, better known characters. There is no "superhero fatigue", only CRAP NON-CANON FATIGUE. Screw the Ultimate universe. Give us WW3 Nick Fury & Howling Commandos fighting alongside Logan, Cap & the Invaders. Do Earth right, including regular heroes & street level/heroes for hire types. And cosmic stuff right like Kree/Shiar/Skrull, Negative Zone, Galactus/Heralds/Quasar/(real)Mar-Vell.
Keep narcissists & fan-hating Liberal agendas OUT of good story telling. If it worked before 20-50 years ago, non fans will love it too. No excuses. It will even bring value back to old comics & cause quality to come back to the entire comics industry again. Meanwhile all we can do is cherish the great memories we have of the books, and of the maybe 5-8 DECENT movies that have been made such as Maguire Spidey 1, IronMan1, Japan Wolverine, Capt 1-2, Black Panther 1, Guardians 2(?) and Avengers up to Infinity War. Everything else has basically SUCKED. Couple shows were ok like Falcon/WS, Iron Fist s1 & Shield s1. Other than that, I don't think I would sit through anything else ever again.
Stan Lee talked about doing movies since the early 70s & died rich, but he was a freaking SELL OUT. He should've insisted in keeping canon. It's what separated Marvel from everyone else. It inspired trivia geekness where books had to refer all past history to the books they referred to with notes constantly. Consistency was king. It made it cool to be a geek, fan that knew the details. Most of everything now is watered down bubblegum used toilet paper versions of Marvel's previous glory. Like many other franchises. It's sad that almost nothing matters these days except a quick buck. Disney DESERVES the loss of every cent of the billions they're lost as retribution for spitting in the face of history, the Americana, the culture, and of both the creators & the fans. But at least Stan died filthy rich....

A big problem with the cosmic side of Marvel is that it lacks a sense of scale. The Kree rule over an entire dwarf galaxy. Their war with the Skrulls spanned over hundreds of planets. It should have been portrayed like the Clone Wars or the Dominion War from Star Trek with battles between fleets of ships.

Here's a fun idea; Marvel could still do that story for a third Captain Marvel movie unifying the cosmic stuff. They've already done at least one interquel with Black Widow, filling the gap between Civil War and Infinity War.
They've used scenes in Black Widow and the Ant-man movies to hint at a "lost era" set of stories during the '70s and '80s. The first Captain Marvel was also a gap filling movie, since it was set in 1989 and 1995.
I love that they're good at adjusting things down the line and often succeed.

I don't see Disney/Marvel correcting their downward spiral. I think Deadpool 3 will be fun though I see Marvel shoved their TVA nonsense into Deadpool 3 for no real reason other than to maybe kill off key characters with no repercussions. James Gunn totally ruined Warlock. He made him an idiot and didn't really show his power at all. In the comics Warlock went toe to to with Thanos. Also Gunn made Drax the Destroyer an idiot as well. In the comic Drax is basically indestructible. He is practically cursed. He can't really destroy Thanos but Thanos can't actually finish off Drax. Anyway, there's no sign Marvel will turn their films or tv around at all.

Captain Marvel should of been introduced earlier in the infinity saga... maybe in phase 2. And Phase 3 could of had an ACTUAL Captain Marvel 2 movie focusing on her being "The Annihilator" I would LOVE to see a follow up right after Cap. Marvel 1 when she destroys the supreme intelligence and plunge the glaxy into a civil war. Make her into a villain/morally gray character in that story, then give her a good redemption arc. I want to see that regret, guilt etc Cap Marvel goes through. I just feel between the Cap Marvel and The Marvels movie, there is a HUGE story/event gap that should of been done.

Unfortunately, Chadwick Boseman died. I suspect Black Panther and Wakanda were originally intended as the anchor for Phase IV / V. In the comics, T'chala / Wakanda had links with Namor, Doom, FF, magic, Captain Marvel, Xmen, and even its own space empire -- more than enough material to move MCU forward. Black Panther aside, Chadwick had the gravitas to replace RDJ as the new centre. After Chadwick died, life had to go on but the MCU didn't have a ready character / actor to step in and be that anchor. Hence, we got the string of meh movies / TV series. MCU then tried to anchor on Kang -- but. no go either. It's likely the next phases will be anchored by Reed - Doom feud, then Krakoa, then who knows.

What would have fixed the cosmic stories is Agents of SHIELD/Inhumans.
The Kree created the Inhumans to fight the Skrulls.
Keeping Kamala an Inhuman means she would have had more of a connection to Carol & her story with the Kree than just having light based powers.

I thought you would mention something simpler: the Marvels movie completely wasted the potential of the "body switching" situation. In the movie, they gave a half-baked explanation about why that happened, and honestly, it didn't make much sense. In the comics, (the original) Captain Marvel is imprisoned in an alternate universe. Rick Jones, a young man from Earth (and an important comics character sinfully missing from the movies), finds the "Nega-bands", a pair of bracelets that, when struck together, make Marvel and Jones switch bodies for three hours.
Now, imagine the following in the MCU: the villain has a different weapon, the Antimatter Rod, which resembles a lightning rod and has the power to "attract" antimatter to be channelled against her enemies. She also has one of the Quantum Bands (like at the beginning of the movie) and finds out that Kamala has the other. She invades Earth to get the second band from Kamala. Ms. Marvel fights against the enemy minions but flees from her house to take the battle away from her family out of fear of them getting hurt. Even though she can stand her ground against the minions, the big villain with the rod and one band is too much for her, but Captain Marvel arrives in time to fight alongside Kamala and keep the villain from getting Kamala's band. Apparently, Marvel's "positive energy" powers can be used to cancel the antimatter emissions from the rod, so they use it to their advantage.
In the chaos of the battle, Kamala manages to snatch the second band from the villain and strikes them together to defend herself from a rod ray. But what nobody except maybe the villain knew is that this creates a rift between our universe and the Negative Zone, a parallel antimatter universe. The rift will allow antimatter attracted to the rod to leak into the positive universe. It would destroy Earth and maybe the galaxy, so Carol knows that she needs to close the rift, which can be done by reversing what was done to open it: having Kamala strike the bands together while Carol shoots a positive energy ray.
Carol also decides that the rod needs to be thrown into the Negative Zone before the rift is closed, for the rod is too much a dangerous weapon to be kept in the positive matter universe. She prepares to throw the rod into the rift, but the villain manages to grab Kamala as hostage and throws her into the rift. Marvel has only seconds to save Kamala; if Kamala stays too long in the Negative Zone, she will die. The villain blocks the rift from Carol, so she does not have an alternative except to tackle the villain into the rift and fly after Kamala into the negative zone. She lets go of the villain, grabs Kamala and throws her back into our universe, screaming to Kamala to strike the bands together on three (this could also be a throwback to the 1-2-3-go bit they did before in the movie). Kamala is thrown back into the positive universe and strikes the bands, while Carol's shot from within the rift hits them, and the rift is closed, with Carol getting stranded in the Negative Zone. The movie ends with Earth saved, but Kamala screams in despair, feeling guilty for Carol's sacrifice to save her.
This could be only the setup for the third movie, where lots of good stuff could happen. First of all, Carol is not dead. She is stranded and cannot open the rift again because the bands are in our universe. Kamala's powers or physiology could have changed from exposure to the Negative Zone, which could have made the Bands permanently attached to her body (or at least make the bands unusable by anyone else). Not sure if Captain Marvel is still alive, she seeks help from other Avengers and meets Nick Fury, who introduces her to Monica (I thought that cramping Monica and Kamala both into the second movie weakened both their parts, so the second movie could've been with interactions between Kamala and Carol, and the third one between Monica and Kamala). Monica is working at Saber, and her powers are being tested and studied by a certain team of Saber scientists: Dr. Reed Richards and Dr. Susan Storm, who research particle-to-energy conversion and positive and negative radiation (Monica's powers being in both of their research fields).
After being debriefed by Kamala on the events of the second film, Reed and Sue agree that Carol is probably alive in the negative zone. They work for several months to survey the negative zone and assemble a rescue team to explore it and bring Carol back. Their mission starts good but needs to be aborted because they are exposed to Negative Zone cosmic rays, and that makes their bodies get changed in bizarre ways: Reed's body becomes uncontrollably elastic (they build an exosuit with Stark tech to help him move); Sue's body gets permanently invisible; Ben Grimm, the pilot, is transformed into a stone "thing"'; and Sue's brother Johnny's body gets incandescent like a human torch and need some Wakandian tech to feed energy to his flames to keep him from being consumed from them. Or let the FF be the original ones; I always thought it very unfair that only Ben has uncontrollable powers, but whatever...
Before getting back to Earth, however, the team was able to pinpoint Carol's location in the negative zone. So they do some science into the Quantum Bands to tune them to Carol's powers, allowing Kamala to open the rift at Carol's position by striking the bands together. However, that goes wrong, and the only effect is that Carol switches bodies with Kamala, who goes to the Negative Zone. Carol is in a poor state after being stranded in the negative zone for such a long time: her powers allowed her to survive, but she got weaker, starving and traumatized (think Tom Hanks at the end of Castaway). The team is all shocked to see her in such a state; Monica, however, cries with joy to see her auntie back. But that lasts only a few seconds, for Kamala gets scared and strikes the bands again, replacing Carol at Saber.
After understanding what happened, the team suits Kamala with protective gear to withstand Negative Zone exposure for longer. They want to allow Carol to stay for three hours so she can be tended. Kamala strikes the bands and switches places with Carol. During the three-hour interval, Carol is patched up and comforted, knowing they are all working to get her back. She is given a protective suit and provisions to survive with a little comfort. They also discuss and agree on a schedule to have Carol back in the positive universe for three hours each day to rest and recover.
Before going back, Carol records a video message to Kamala, thanking her and telling her that she should not feel guilty for what happened, the villain in the previous movie is the only culprit here. She finishes the message by saying that Kamala was a true hero for standing up against the Kree bullies that threatened Earth, taking the fight away from Jersey, thinking about the safety of others, and agreeing to stay in the Negative Zone for those hours while Carol was rescued. The three-hour timer expires, Kamala strikes the Bangles again, and Carol is transported back to the Negative Zone, relieved that her ordeal will be much more bearable.
But the next day, when Kamala strikes the bands to switch, Carol tells the others that she's done some thinking: even though Kamala is equipped and protected, Captain Marvel does not feel right to have the kid undergo such a dangerous task for her behalf. She says she does not want Kamala to switch again until Reed finds a way to permanently rescue Carol. They try to argue but eventually agree with her. The timer goes off, and Carol prepares herself to be switched back to the Negative Zone, but nothing happens. Everyone panics from worrying about Kamala. Eventually, Carol finds a video Kamala herself recorded, answering Carol's previous video. In a stupid and inconsequential typical teenage way, she explains that Carol is a hero much more important to the universe than her. She tells Carol that she is not striking the bands again. She stashed some more provisions into her baggage, and she is going to stay in the Negative Zone until Reed and the others can rescue her. She says that she is happy with that because if some big, powerful cosmic villain menaces the universe, Carol will be there to save Kamala's family and everyone else, and she is also happy because now it's her turn to sacrifice herself for Carol. The group all feel dismayed because if Kamala does not strike the bands, there is no switching: she is calling the shots now. inadvertently
