For someone who is currently learning Mandarin, would it be easier or more difficult to learn Korean at the same time? I'm a native English speaker from the U.S. who also dabbles in French, Spanish, and ASL. 😅

Ok I got a little excited but my professor said if you learn Mandarin, it will be easier to learn Korean and Japanese. But I'd say it could could be helpful to learn them at the same time if you can handle it since they use similar characters sometimes

Also, that moment when there's a blatant, recurring mistake but they're in the groove right now and you're so proud of them, so you're debating whether to break their flow to make sure they don't internalize the errors or whether overcorrecting them will make them feel insecure and more hesitant to speak at all.
As a language student, that will definitely make us feel insecure if you point it out straight away lol, because at that moment we're really making an effort. Probably point it out later during the class or at the end, one on one. We're more calm and will be more open to the correction.

When I went to korea, to a language school, the teacher where super nice and always encouraged us to speak korean. Even if we used englisch words or phrases They answered in korean, to help us get used to the language, even in class, They only used korean. Only if They taught us a New grammar point They used some english words to help us understand, but 95% was korean. I miss them so much 🫶🏻
That's when you know you've got a good teacher. Love it when the teacher actually helps the students instead of making them self conscious of their mistakes.

I hope you don't mind me correcting a small mistake. The second sentence should be "it's quite interesting." Quite = 꽤, 상당히, 아주, 정말. Quiet = 조용(하다). Native English speakers often make this mistake as well, so don't feel bad about it at all.
I hope all korean teachers are like thisㅠㅠ I have been studying for 3 years on and off, but until now, I'm having hard time conveying my thoughts in korean co'z most of my teachers didn't give me the chance to actually have a two-way conversation, before I finish a sentence they would butt in and finish it. I ended up only doing gestures, sign language, and saying 네 네 네. I don't know, maybe they were feeling awkward, or they didn't have any patience to wait. ㅠㅠ
Try preply. I have a teacher named Yeseul 예슬 and she is amaaaaazing. She waits so patiently until I am like ..."help," and then she tells me the word. It isn't free, but it 50 minutes and for 25$ and it might help one time a week to be able to speak to someone who gives you a chance. Or you can try others for cheaper
How did that Korean language learner get such a garment that invites people to talk to that person in Korean? I wear my "안녕하세요" shirt around and not one person even says "I don't want to greet you!"
Hahahaha! 🤣 This is exactly what happens when I am teaching English to my Korean students. Good to know that it is not just me encountering this. 😅 However, this process is necessary, as it builds their confidence to be able to freely speak in the future without all the hesitating and stammering. It is always so encouraging when the student finally gets it right. This is what I live for as an English teacher. 😍

I’m an English teacher and I LOVE watching my students connect the dots and figure out how to say something! Even sometimes when they think they don’t know but I know they do (most of my students are native Spanish speakers and I have really good Spanish so it’s easy for me to tell if they will be able to figure it out) I love seeing how happy they are ❤️❤️ us language teachers correct your mistakes because it’s our job but we are really your #1 fan and are extremely happy that you are even able to express the smallest ideas ❤️ be brave and make mistakes because in the end it pays off!!!
I remember speaking korean and always use geu..or eo.. just filler words and yes i will put english words then i look up the dictionary after that use the word in a sentence and that that's how i learn korean vocab
yeah that's sounds good for teachers but sometimes when I talk to common people it's frustrating that when you try to speak Korean, they will interrupt then they will just speak in English. Well, I understand they just want to make the conversation smooth but it is really frustrating for Korean learners (not all) with this kind of situation..
I have a friend who is a korean teacher. The only person who can speak to me in korean all day and I understand and the only one I try to actually speak in full korean as much as I can. Teachers have a special skill, even if they are not your teachers.
