By gumbo I think you're right. And it's about time. For a watch that costs what it does, applied indices are a step up that should have been done long ago. Personally, I'd like to see a solid caseback with a corresponding decrease in price.

I was looking at pulling the trigger on the black one this summer when I retired from the Marine Corps after 20 years. I had tried on the black one and love the feel and was blown away by the iconic nature of this watch but the black face didn’t blow me away because already have some black watches and actually been shopping for a white or blue watch, then this drops. I can’t stop looking at the white face and think I may save a little longer, try this one when available and maybe pull the trigger if available when I officially retire on 1 Aug.
Great review!! If I could change one thing about the watch, it would be to give it a steel bezel. It would make it more of a strap monster if it was just white & steel as opposed to black, white, and steel.

I've had my 1863 a long time and considered a 3861 but at the end of the day I still love my 1863 as it wasn't different enough for me to consider a change when my speedy worked just as well and as accurately after the release of the new model a year or two ago. A white dial version is different enough to consider in the future to complement my old faithful that I have no intention of selling anytime soon.
The white speedy has a variable adjust clasp like some of the gold models (maybe that’s where your additional 2 g comes from). The indices are also applied not painted.
The cream-dialled moon phase 1866 with stunning blues applied indices and broad arrow hands, and white gold bezel, has been around (and slept on) for a long while. One of the most gorgeous, and feature-packed, Speedmasters ever.

I'm in the U.S. The black-dial, sapphire-sandwich Speedy is US$8000 MSRP and this new white-dial version is US$8100, so a US$100 difference (the US dollar and Euro are at parity so it's the same here, yes).
In the USA it’s $100 difference. Make sense as the white has applied markers and lacquered dial. I think both changes make the price difference understandable. I am curious how legibility changes at night between the two. I love how easy it is to see my 3861 at night with fully lumed indices

I just looked on the Japanese Omega site, where I live. The regular Speedy is ¥1,078,000 and the new white one is ¥176,00 more.... much more than just 100 euros... WTF?! I'm glad I bought my hesalite crystal Moonwatch over a decade ago for a fraction of the price!
There was a panda version in 2003 for the upmarket Japanese department store Mitsukoshi, 300 pieces only. For the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Collection there was another one, this time 2020 pieces. Not sure if there has been a reverse Panda, but by now they should have covered everything. This means that this all white dial might have been the last. Although the bezel could be inverted too I guess

I don’t think this was a fair review of this new release! In comparison to the Panda Daytona, this Speedmaster stands out in every way. The dial is far from plain, with a phenomenal lacquered finish. The addition of red accents elevates it to a new level, and the diamond-polished black PVD hands are simply beyond words. The black olympics strap is just too good. They added 100 euros to the price. The daytona increases in price 500 euros at a minimum per year with no availability. No other brand can offer such a nice new release with this much heritage at this price point. Reminds of the old Speedmaster for the Italian market, the Mark 2 Snoopy, and the Alaska Project. It's a well-coordinated and masterfully presented mixture of everything. If I am not wrong this will be the talk of the town for next few months. And might even kill the demand for snoopy.
Gorgeous watch, but if I’m buying the moon watch in the first place, I’m buying it because the American astronauts wore it on the moon. I want what they wore and I don’t know the history of the moon watch, but I doubt they wore one with a white dial. There are other Omegas I’d buy if I just wanted a white dial.
Kind of funny, advertisement clicks on this video are probably worth a fortune since it's targeted at people that can drop 10 thousand euro on a watch casually on a Tuesday afternoon.

I think it would be better with a ceramic bezel, just like the 321. I have the Speedmaster 57 with the steel bezel and the scale is not very legible.

The newer black dial already have the 2 way adjustable clasp.
Lets not forget the applied indices. Thats actually quite a big visual difference and may also contribute to the small weight difference.

In Switzerland the original black with sapphire is CHF 7600, new white is CHF 7700, so 100 difference also.
I went to an Omega Boutique event tonight and got to handle it. The Speedmaster wasn’t previously on my wish list but it is now.
Here in Singapore it's a SGD$100 price difference as well, which is about USD$74.

The white dial version is regulated to 0 to 5 seconds per day while the black dial remains at 0 to 10 seconds per day.
£100 for the White in the UK BUT it is a winner. No doubt will be a tough find.

It already wears much smaller than 42, more like a 40 or even a 39.
42mm is the classic size. It won't go down in size, unless you get the ladies version.
