Not necessarily careless. More like self-consumed and afraid. What if R2-D2 played back the whole recording with Padame and Anakin to himself over and over because he is unable to calculate what has gone wrong with Anakin?
Yeah. When Luke asked R2 to stay with the ship while on Cloud City, R2 didn't because the last time he stayed with the ship, he lost his dear friend Anakin. He wasn't gonna lose Luke the same way.
Discovering what R2 finally revealed to Luke, Leia and Jacen in Dark Nest trilogy was so emotional and compelling. I love the original EU and how well it kept continuity.
Alorha Baga she speaks the truth. But can we agree that the First Order and all of the Sequel Trilogy would have fit perfectly in the distant future after the Legacy Era ? Like, the concepts are cool and shit but they just feel like children trying to be what was once the most powerful organization to dominate the stars ! This is my opinion but I'd like to know others as well 🤓
Honestly I think the “Squeals” should have followed the Thrawn trilogy, abide with some clean up to update various terms and such, like how back when the book was written there was no mention of “The Sith”, as every Force wielder who turned to the dark side was labeled a “Dark Jedi” along with some other minor touch ups. The thing which irks me most about the new Sequels is namely how they handle the galaxy at large and how utterly convoluted and black and white the “First Order” is. In Legends, it took the Empire, a GALACTIC EMPIRE, somewhere like twenty years to finally exhaust its resources and call a truce. That’s believable, that’s fitting for such a giant war machine that was the Empire. The Empire, while also seen as a dictatorial force, was also written to not be so black and white. Storm Troopers, soldiers, pilots and aces weren’t clones come the Rebellion era, most had been phased out or were on their last tours of duty. The Empire was made up of men and women who merely wanted to serve and better themselves, earn prestige and make a career for themselves or simply escape the backwater world they came from. In short, the Empire was extremely human; You has good aspects about it and you had terrible aspects about it. Palpating was a despot and a cruel man who jumped at shadows at every turn, but he cared about how things were run and he cared about his Empire. That’s why the Death Star was built; Not so much to bring the planets in line, but because of the warning Thrawn had brought from the Unknown regions; Something Big was coming and we needed a means to combat it. That something was the Vong and look how well that fiasco turned out. The Republic lost how many worlds while the Imperial Remnant not only held their own but the Vong actively avoided them, at least until the Republic was pacified. The First Order are just literal space Nazi’s. That’s all. They were created after the Empire basically destroyed all of its own planets and population at the behest of the Emperor only to then be destroyed by the Rebellion in one battle. Just one. The Galactic empire with all its ships and recourses, bested by an armada that would have been a 1/15th it’s size. That’s what I also feel these new movies lack is a sense of believability and scale; The fact that the Republic and it’s vast array of worlds don’t have a standing army is...utterly baffling to me. So what, everyone gets along now? Everyone gathers around the senate and sings alien folk songs and nobody has any problem with each other at all, ever? I’m sorry but that’s simply unbelievable, and the old Legend books captured this perfectly; Without a unified threat to combat, the Republic was on the verge of devolving into infighting between the various different alien species that comprised it...like, you know, actual aliens and peoples with various different cultures? I mean for Christ sake the Bothans are a prime example of this; They’re a bunch of backstabbing skulking opportunists, but they have succeeded many times in complete genocide of those they believe to be a threat (I believe it’s called the Krev’ii; Total war, either the enemy dies or we all do). And that raises another point: in Legends, Corosaunt has been sacked before and the Republic has gone into exile before because of it, and this was during a time when much of the Galaxy was utterly against them, in the grip of the Vong or totally apathetic to them...but they survived and fought back. In the new movies four planets are blown up and suddenly THE REPUBLIC HAS BEEN DESTROYED!! Bullshit; the First order just took out the seat of power of the Republic, all the species in the Republic and their planets are still IN the Republic. Plus, your telling me that in this suddenly massive vacant power vacuum, the various races of the galaxy just up and bent over for the first order? Nobody called for retribution? Nobody like say, oh I don’t know, the BOTHANS didn’t rally the other races behind their banner? Not a single member stood forward and said “You attacked us, you are going down!” Oh how could I forget; They couldn’t fight back because nobody has a fleet or standing army of their own. Bollocks writing to a bollocks story to a pitifully comical stand in for what was once Sci-fi’s most intimidating and powerful “Bad guys”. Now we have a bunch of feckless, incompetent soldiers who kill and murder without a second thought like drones all at the behest of an angstridden teenager being “Taught” how to do things by a sentient strip of chewed bacon with force powers. And don’t even fucking get me started on the fucking Canto Blight bullshit or how utterly squeaky clean they made Solo into. Far as I’m concerned, save Finn and that cocky pilot whose name escapes me, as they were arguably the most interesting and dynamic characters and leave the rest to rot as bad fan fiction.
Shinchibi and the casuals and Legends haters have the audacity to call Dark Empire a terrible story. Dude, fuck that noise ! People act like a happy ending is the only ending when it comes to heroes or redeemed heroes. One act can't extinguish all bad that is in the universe ! People act like the Sith are a people in the prequels and can just be wiped out and that's it. They were not (any longer) a people that can be Exterminatused into oblivion and that is the end of it. People are easy to kill but an ideology is extremely hard; especially when it can be twisted to fit others' perspectives. Anakin did bring balance to the galaxy but not for long. It was never implied how long the balance would last and has always been hinted that the prophecy could have been interpreted wrong. Especially if the prophecy came from a holocron over 2000 years ago. The Sith will always return and it is just a matter of fact. The Jedi will always return as well. Their imprint on the galaxy through multiple worlds is too great to be simply washed away. I have a harsh but fitting way for Ep. IX to end and it concludes with Jacen Solo waking up inside Luke's starship and asking how long had he been out since the fight with the pirates and then that's it ! Movie goes black.
BlackShogun 27 id have actually liked to see the legacy era explored in SW movies with Cade as the last Skywalker and his story instead of the ST and Luke could appear as force ghost, or even do an ST with Lukes order and han and leias kids, what we got is not my cup of tea tbh
@@mitthrawdoritos30 a lot of fans from the times of the original and prequel trilogies, legends, and in my case the clone wars and rebels, do and I was introduced to star wars by the phantom menace and I wasn't alive when it came to theaters.
I just imagine when the purge began, anakin was giving orders to the 501st, and was about ready to March when he hears Artoo beap. Anakin: "Oh yeah... Artoo... You uh, better stay with ship."
Marowake I record incidents all the time. It's part of my programming. Everything I see gets stored in my memory as recordings so I can easily pull it up whenever I need to.
Finally, I needed this video. You have no idea how many videos I search to just wonder what the poor little robot thought about his closest friend fall to the darkside
Clearly R2 knew what was happening in the opening scenes of A New Hope. But knew to keep quite about it. Telling 3PO or anyone else would be pointless. He went the entire original trilogy knowing that his privy to the truth must be kept secret
I don't see how it would be pointless. If R2 did record Anakin and Padme's final meeting on Mustafar, then his recordings would've not only exposed Darth Vader's identity as Anakin Skywalker to the galaxy, it would've also exposed Palpatine as a Sith lord who turned Anakin to the dark side and had orchestrated the clone wars as a way to get rid of the Jedi and the Republic. These recordings would've drawn more support for the rebel alliance as many star systems would side with them against the empire.
loudboy317 I'm not following you komrad. How does Vaders IDENTITY matter, in the greater outlook. It would ONLY MATTER to the Skywalker family and it's better to let them find out themselves. Supposing they would gain followers based on his identity? I don't see it. But I do see massive amounts of EMOTION that would HINDER the fight .
@@wesleywarsmith1113 If R2 recorded Anakin's conversation with Padme, it would've also recorded his confrontation with Obi-wan. In those recordings, R2 would've caught Anakin saying he's becoming more powerful than the chancellor and it would've also taped Obi-wan saying how Anakin allowed this dark lord to twist his mind followed by his infamous "only a Sith deals in absolutes" quote. If Bail Organa can figure out that Anakin is Darth Vader, than so can anyone else so exposing Vader's identity matters because it tells everyone throughout the galaxy that everything they knew about Palpatine, the clone wars, and the Empire was all a lie.
It’s sad to know Anakin stopped talking to R2 bear the end. You can tell he did it to spare his mechanical companion. Something people seem to forget about droids like Artoo and Threepio is that they developed personality quirks over the years. These quirks make them unique and are a clear sign of some sentience. If we can believe that a greater power out there created us, why can’t we accept that we can create life as a lesser power? We do it everyday. What if that kinda thing is the end goal. What if it’s a cycle and leaving our creations behind will continue it. Just something to think about I guess. We know a lot about the universe, but in the grand scheme of infinity a lot is so little.

@@jamesprice51 You can't prove me wrong tho, we don't know the origin of snoke. So until then this is canon. 🤣 Snoke is the unwanted kid from R2 and led the first order to accomplish his secret goal, kill his father. Kill R2.
Poor little guy. He has seen literally everything: The blockade of Naboo, The Clone Wars, The Jedi Purge, The Rebellion, and now the rise of the First Order. He is living history (and I don't put "living" in quotation marks because he's just as alive as any organic, IMO). He's had so much struggle, so much heartbreak. I hope his story ends happily.
About time you tackled this. R2 is one of the most human characters of them all. EDIT: This is the most likes I've ever gotten. Hello Darth Vader, glad to see I'm not the only one hiding from Sheev Palpatene. He's so pathetic, he thinks he can kill us.
I just realized that while a lot of R2's remarks may come across as sarcastic, that's really just him trying to hide his pain. He developed a tough façade just so he could avoid dealing with the trauma of that fateful day when his master abandoned him. Unlike with humans or other lifeforms in Star Wars, however, he can't communicate his suffering easily. And he can't let go of those memories like Luke and the other rebels are capable of doing. He's often trapped in his own mind with the mental image of Anakin, his old master and friend, nearly killing Padme. It's important to remember that R2 was part of the group led by Qui-Gon to liberate Naboo. He is aware of the fact that Anakin and Padme cared about each other-that Padme was the light, the angel in Anakin's life. She may have been the biggest reason he didn't turn to the dark side for years. Seeing him choke her on Mustafar... was like a stab to the chest for R2. This honestly makes me want to hug R2 and reassure him that it wasn't his fault, that he didn't deserve to suffer like this. I don't know how he would take such a gesture, but...
Real Blue Star see, I was okay with Disney making their own Canon but when they ceased all production of Expanded Universe content I was heavily triggered ! Like, why couldn't thy just produce Legends media alongside their own like how they do with Marvel !? Marvel deadass has multiple dimensions in their comic series and somehow they confidently keep it nice and clean while they use the excuse that Legends was "too much, mostly bad, and cluttered" ! Da'fuq !? How can they say shit like that when they've really dropped the ball with their outlandish as hell comics and reboots ? Fuck it, Legends is Canon to me and it is final. I'll gladly accept Darth Maul's extended story and death over the Legends one along with Vader's (Legends-like) comics but besides those things, everything else is trash...
C3PO: "R2, what are you doing here?" R2D2: "Serving drinks!" Still one of the funniest bits of dialogue in SW history. A sense of humour must be proof of advanced sentience, surely.
Matthew Stover's novelization of Episode III is easily one of my favorite books of all time. R2-D2 was LITERALLY my favorite character🙊. Such an intelligent being, with love in it's processors. I to viewed R2-D2 as something much more than a simple machine. And it's not only because of the terrible things he's witnessed nor gone through. He's just a "Droid" anybody would love to have around. Whether it be for small talks or to have a good time. From the comic's, cartoons, and movies.... Dam His scared yelling was possibly the most heart warming thing to me though. 😂😂
Given that he’s not a living thing (biologically speaking), I wonder if he’d even be able to see him. Apparently C-3PO couldn’t actually see Luke in _The Last Jedi._ However, that was a mental projection, which is different, so that idea might not count when it comes to Force Ghosts.
Force Ghosts can only be seen/heard by other Force-sensitives. Droids like R2-D2 have absolutely ZERO Force potential and would thus be unable to see them. This is also why droids cannot be influenced by the Jedi Mind Trick.
ShadowKnight506 Gamez Dark nest trilogies is where you can read how R2 reluctantly revealed to Luke, Leia and Jacen Solo the truth of Anakin and Padme. Such a compelling read just for the continuity
R2-D2 is the only character to have consistently lived throughout the entire saga of the main 9 films to remember everything. I say consistently since I believe that R2 would’ve given C-3PO’s most of his memories back sometime after the original trilogy. He was also the best and most reliable friend to have with anyone he trusted. He is a true hero.
It was mostly out of shock. It was one of those things where the factors didn't add up so I had to get a recording of all of it to be sure I was seeing or hearing it right (my visual and auditory processing systems are separate from my recording systems, like how a human's eyes and ears are separate from the camera they're holding). Unfortunately, when I played it back later, I confirmed that I was. I wanted to delete all the recordings I took that day so I wouldn't feel the pain, but that would mean I'd never know what happened to them. Knowing myself, I'd probably end up investigating but I wouldn't find any answers. So I kept it, but I tried not to play them back too often because the memories were enough of a reminder. Every time I was weighed down by those painful memories, I would play back recordings of all of us just having fun. It always reminded me of one of Yoda's quotes: "Mourn them do not, miss them do not." They may have been gone, but they were here and they made everything more enjoyable for me. Every scratch, dent, blast, and explosion was worth it because they were there. All of them. And that feeling reappeared again with Luke, Han, Leia, Chewie, Lando, and even Google Translate (Threepio, for those who couldn't figure it out). I knew that time would end too, but I was much more prepared for it this time around. Damn, I didn't think this was gonna turn out like that.
If you feel bad, HK-47 had it worse. He was there with his master Revan and succeeded in a lot of assassination missions, and then his master gets betrayed by his apprentice Darth Malak and taken away by the Jedi. Meanwhile, HK has more missions before ending up in a droid shop on Tatooine, where he meets his old master again. A year or two later, he deals with lamer HK assassination droids that don't say "meatbag" (biggest sin), are silver-colored, and don't even fight properly. He has to face the insult of a new generation. His master gets captured by the Sith Emperor again and gets tortured for 300 years (can you imagine 300 years without Anakin?) and the two reunite, but HK (and Revan) get defeated by a bunch of giggling, drunk SWTOR players. Several years later, he's serving under Darth Malgus, a Sith Lord who wants to create his new Empire, and he gets defeated again...by hordes of high-level SWTOR players A few thousand years later, he's on Mustafar in a Separatist droid facility. He hijacks the base but gets defeated by Star Wars Galaxies players...but his programming still survives! Still...he's lived thousands of years and mostly never saw his master, the only person he "loved".
I honestly would love to know R2's real thoughts throughout Legends. What did he think of the wars? What did he want most of all? Would he stick with the Skywalker family for all time or venture out with his friend C-3PO?
I'm literally in tears. Fuck anyone who thinks droids don't have feelings. If they don't have feelings, they sure as hell possess a loyalty for their friends that no one can replace. Poor R2. He helped everyone and was hardly thanked for it. He's honestly a role model.

Finally some content about R2-D2, thank you so much for this man ! He is my favourite Star Wars character (alongside Qui-Gon Jinn), so quiet yet so smart, resourceful and funny
R2 went through three trilogies and several cartoons worth of battles. From the Clone Wars, to the battle with the Rebels and Empire, and he's still going in the new series, (whether you like the new trilogy or not is okay, as I'm just talking about everything artoo's been through as of right now). This little guy has been around for soooooo long!
Imagine the amount of ptsd R2D2 must have, the amount of battles he’s been in, the fact he’s been nearly destroyed several times in the clone wars and then he witnessed his master turn evil.
R2-D2 is my favorite character is Star Wars. It was cool to hear this story on what he was thinking during this time. He has been through so much through out the films. I cant even imagine all the stuff he has recorded that nobody is aware of.
" You're too good for this galaxy , R2!" Aww , this just adds a whole new dimension of sadness to those events. The poor little guy, it's like a kid watching his dad choke out his mother. I always found that scene just a tiny bit sad on a very basic level but had never really taken the time to think how R2 ( who i always knew was there when that all went down) would have processed it all. Being such a huge fan of R2's ,to see it from a such different angle, through him, it just makes this event seem to take on such a deeper sadness for some reason , for me anyways. Knowing how strongly R2 could feel "human emotion" is likely that reason.
The Revenge of the Sith Novel is one of my favorite legends novels, next to "The Life and Legend of Obi Wan Kenobi" and "The Rise and Fall of Darth Vader" the latter of which has a scene at the end that has Anakin becoming a force ghost and communicating with Obi Wan for the first time since the First Death Star
R2D2 and C-3PO have been through soo much. They have been in the galaxy for decades seeing the beginning of the clone wars, being in many battles during the clone wars seeing the fall of the Jedi and of their master Anakin Skywalker and being apart of the rebel alliance's fight against the Empire and finally being apart of the Resistance bringing down the First Order and the Sith Order. They are truly the most oldest and most influential beings/robots to have ever lived in Star Wars
What, exactly, could he do? He was still in Anakin’s ship; it’s unclear if he could get out, unassisted. Even if he could, I doubt fighting a powerful (and angry) Force user was in his programming! I doubt his “shock wand” was going to do a lot of good, here... 😢 His approach was probably the best, strategically; get the info to someone (like Obi-Wan) that can do something about it, not to mention, hitching a ride home! 😂
Lol, he could follow his primary directive. Preserve human life. Roll up to Anakin and tell him to stop. Anakin respected R2D2, it could of made the difference.
He’s been through so much starting with: The Clone Wars Order 66 The Galactic Civil War (Empire vs Rebel Alliance) And The Fight against The First Order And then the final battle against the Final Order/Sith Empire
Not only r2 and c3po were droids, they’ve went through a lot together and they both had to witness their companions change, die and many more. They’re the real OG’s
Only C-3PO’s memory was wiped by Bail Organa at the end of Revenge of the Sith.

And then the fact that he knew him since he was a child. That's just heartbreaking.
That’s what I also feel these new movies lack is a sense of believability and scale;
The fact that the Republic and it’s vast array of worlds don’t have a standing army is...utterly baffling to me.
Not a single member stood forward and said “You attacked us, you are going down!”
Oh how could I forget; They couldn’t fight back because nobody has a fleet or standing army of their own.

The fact that Anakin stopped talking to R2 really shows how far he’s turned
On mustafar when Anakin said "R2 , stay with the ship"
And R2 said "beep boop"
I felt that.
This is why I think Obi-Wan says 'I don't seem to remember owning a droid'
@@wesleywarsmith1113
If R2 recorded Anakin's conversation with Padme, it would've also recorded his confrontation with Obi-wan.

R2D2 is such an important fixture in the true Star Wars universe. Anybody who can’t see that probably isn’t a fan in the purest sense.
Legends is canon to me. People convinced me. Some Canon stuff is good but is more the damage than the good stuff they do.
Good story telling is canon. That's the way I see it.
@Jakub Bończak you do know it's made by the same people with the same quality as legends right?
SWEU is always in my heart 😔😔
There is a lot of stupid stuff in Legends tho.
I bet his thoughts while showing Luke the recordings were:
R2: "Why are we still here, just to suffer?"
C3PO: "R2, what are you doing here?"
R2D2: "Serving drinks!"
Still one of the funniest bits of dialogue in SW history. A sense of humour must be proof of advanced sentience, surely.
Matthew Stover's novelization of Episode III is easily one of my favorite books of all time. It's incredible how much his version of the story deepens the characters and therefore the plot when you rewatch the prequels.

How would R2 react of he met Anakins Ghost?
Given that he’s not a living thing (biologically speaking), I wonder if he’d even be able to see him. Apparently C-3PO couldn’t actually see Luke in _The Last Jedi._ However, that was a mental projection, which is different, so that idea might not count when it comes to Force Ghosts.
Force Ghosts can only be seen/heard by other Force-sensitives. Droids like R2-D2 have absolutely ZERO Force potential and would thus be unable to see them. This is also why droids cannot be influenced by the Jedi Mind Trick.

Alorha Baga thank you, I’ll look into it :)
Several years later, he's serving under Darth Malgus, a Sith Lord who wants to create his new Empire, and he gets defeated again...by hordes of high-level SWTOR players
A few thousand years later, he's on Mustafar in a Separatist droid facility. He hijacks the base but gets defeated by Star Wars Galaxies players...but his programming still survives!
Still...he's lived thousands of years and mostly never saw his master, the only person he "loved".

Poor R2. That droid needs a hug.
He needs some milk!🥛
@@imperialguard28 Milk and a hug then.

Doesn't an Ewok give him a hug during the Ewok Celebration at the end of Episode 6?
The Lore Master has answered so many of my questions!
R2-D2 is undoubtedly one of my favorite astromech droids alongside Chopper
Your gonna get a lot of hate comments for that one
@@StressLevel100 you right, CHOPPPER IS THE MOST GAYASS DROID I HAVE EVER WITNESSED IN MY LIFE LIKE HOLY SHIT THE THING IS ANNOYING
Isent chopper just a discount R2D2
But Chopper is mothereffing nobody that is annoying piece of scrap that is deus ex machina
As annoying as Chooper may be from time to time, he can certainly hold his own in a fight and you could almost understand his grunts and grumbles
*beeps in sad*
Dude... realizing how much R2 has seen. Bless his mechanical power source.
R2 is my favourite canon character from Star Wars.
what is your droïde profile picture it is so cute :3
@@jh-ij4by It's a droid builder from Star Wars: Commander.
Droid Builder Boi sameee
R2-D2 went full Millennial Snowflake and pulled out his smartphone and started recording the fight, instead of having the courage to stop the fight.
Show me a video where a boomer jumps in between a fight of 20 year olds.
He’s been through so much starting with:
The Clone Wars
Order 66
The Galactic Civil War (Empire vs Rebel Alliance)
And The Fight against The First Order
And then the final battle against the Final Order/Sith Empire
When he was almost blown off his ship in the phantom menace
I've always loved R2 but man this made me love him a lot more because he has been through so much.

R2d2: "BLYAT! "
SUKA
R2: NOBODY TELLS ME ANYTHING ANYMORE!
Anakin: *surprised pikachu face*
The original episodes 1 - 6 are actually told from R2-D2 perspective.
I imagine episodes 7-9 are told through BB-8's perspective.
Not only r2 and c3po were droids, they’ve went through a lot together and they both had to witness their companions change, die and many more. They’re the real OG’s
