The camera jacked up the video shot of the gauge after the sending unit install. I imported it into the software and it was all black screen even no audio. Even with that being said, the gauge would go for a day sometimes and not act up. Which is why I stressed that I believe its the sending unit. Since I didnt get the shot of the gauge being steady. I'll give it a few days to watch it and if y'all want I'll do an update video or just leave the comment here. Which would yall like best?
Update video showing cold and fully warmed pressures
I've got the opposite problem. 87 wrangler. My pressure gauge show I'm at 80 when I'm driving. When I idle it drops back down. Any ideas?
Lp
Been subscribed to your channel for a long time. I just had an issue with oil pressure. I did a search and your channel popped up 😂. In mind I thought exactly what you brought up. No oil pressure but no noise from lifters.
One question, was that a 2.5 or a 4.0?
You are my mechanic, thanks so much for you videos, always very helpful.
I watched your video on tightening a serpentine belt took me a half an hour to do the job but I'm grateful without your help I wouldn't have done the job thank you very appreciated
Glad it helped!
Im having the same issue thanks for the video
Picked up a 1994 yj, thanks for all the great videos
You are welcome! Hope they are helpful!
thanks again for another helpful video.
You are welcome! Hope it helps!
Thanks for the video!
Your welcome!! Have a great day!
Like the content man. I have a Cherokee SE and just have the oil pressure dummy light on mine. I have been watching your content and thinking of wiring up an electronic oil pressure gauge in my cab.
I am thinking it would be pretty straight forward to run, but if anyone else has asked for that video, it would definitely be useful content.
You have a good point. I've put in many of them in older hot rods I've had.
@@Poweraddicts I was going to run a vacuum gauge as well and was going to set it up through your fuse box layout that you have on the channel. So key on, box on with a relay. You videos are very helpful!
Also using the same set-up on my ignition and electric fuel pump for my '60 CJ5
I use the yellow thread tape (gas rated tape) on any fuel or oil threads. Also, dielectric grease on all electrical connections
Great suggestions!! Thanks for leaving a helpful comment to help others!! Have a great day!
What do you think would be the problem with a new gauge and new oil pressure switch and the gauge reads between 40 and 80 at idle and full throttle. There is now strange engine noises, banging or clanging.
Oil is coming out of my dipstick tube when I’m driving. 1992 keep Yj 2.5. I cleaned all the CCV vacuum lines and vents and I think I checked that everything is sucking good. I have yet to take the valve cover off and look inside to see if there is a bunch of sludge clogging it up so what do you think have you had this problem before?
Hi this is Chris in Florida I have a 91 Wrangler too I got a question maybe you can help somebody before me did a 2 inch body lift and now the stick shifter pops out of gear in second and fourth when you let off the gas I guess I heard it's a common problem and somebody suggested there's a spot where you cut the boot to shift in boot I was wondering if you know where that was
I have a 95 wrangler 2.5L with manual transmission. I can’t seem to have that sending unit on the side like you how. I do have one on the right side on the engine block. When I unplug it from the connector it goes to 100, and it drops very slowly. It doesn’t seem to make a difference whether it’s plugged in or unplugged. This is while putting the key in the on position. I was driving it today and the pressure dropped pretty low to almost 0.
I learn a lot from this channel. slowly working out the kinks in my 89 yj
Glad the vids help!
Mine was doing a very similar thing on my 2k tj only in my case it was showing from the first bar and if you gave it a rev it would max out the gauge...left it like that for a little bit and eventually swapped it out and did an oil change everything is all good now lol
Glad to hear its all good! Im not getting any strange engine noises so im sure its the sending unit. Im gonna do a "whats inside a oil pressure sending unit" video. Ill then comment about whether it fixed my issue or not. It was kinds erratic when it acted up.
What would cause my oil pressure gauge to Max out when I turn the key on?
Thanks for the vid. Do you think this would be the same troubleshooting for the opposite problem? My Jeep oil pressure is sitting at 80 most of the time.
It is very possible that the pressure sending unit could be reading high.
I checked My oil sending unit location. I have an 88 YJ and Mine is a few inches farther to the rear and is vertical with another set of wires plugged in a branch of the mounting fitting. the oil sending unit itself looks the same just mounted vertical.
Have a 87 wrangler. Oil pressure shows zero but no ticks. I don't see a opsu on the engine. Found the harness for it but it's not plugged into anything. Oil pressure sensor is on a y fitting with another type of sensor with new wiring connected. Think someone tried to convert it to a different setup?
Hey brother got a problem with my cluch slave cylinder system everything works fine till it all gets hot then I get a half petal or somewhat an a drooping pedal but when it's cold it's fine I watched how to change it but how do u trouble shoot an it stays full
Definitely going bad. When its hot the seals are bypassing fluid. When its cold the seals are more firm therefore sealing properly.
I thought the same just wanted to run it by you thanks brother
I have the opposite problem with my ‘91 YJ. The gauge reads between 60 and 80 psi, Do you have any suggestions?
Growing Up in the Southwest I had the same issue mine would spike 80 and sometimes stay. I replaced the oil sending unit and haven’t had an issue since.
Myles F Thank you for your reply. I will be replacing my sending unit soon. Have a good day.
Yep, replace the sending unit first. They do weird erratic things when they go bad. Have a great day!!
Cold start my gauge goes all the way up, after its warm it drops to 15lbs. Think sending unit? It is on a 91 yj!
Mine does the same thing lmk if that fixed your problem mine cold started goes to 80 after driving it for a little it goes to 40
Ever figure this out? I got a 91 yj also doing weird oil gauge stuff...
@@tatchik77 they said it was because my engine was worn and the crank seals are bad!
Changed the sending unit but oil gauge seems to be reading high still
Hook up a manual oil pressure gauge to check the engine pressure.
Ok stupid question...does the sending unit just send the pressure info to the gauge or does it have another function?
Never s stupid question 👍🙂. Yep, that's the only function of that sensor. It simply sends the pressure info to the gauge.
@@Poweraddicts thanks so much. I learn TONS not only from your videos but because you answer everyone's questions in the comments too! Thanks again for all the hard work you do!
well did it fix it ???
So far so good. 👍
So where the 2 units on mine?
Why are there 2 on mine
What's the result?
So far so good. Im gonna do a follow up video later which will include tearing apart the old one to see whats inside.
Dam wish i seen this video sooner ive been riding around with mine doing that for over 6 years 😂😂😂😂
LOL .. its a wonder it didn't pop and spew oil everywhere.
I swapped mine and now it's pegged to the far right or at 80 PSI..... the other one was leaking... any ideas...
Either you have lots of oil pressure or a wiring issue. You could temporarily install a manual oil pressure gauge to confirm.
Changed mine as well, but it's still reading high
@@walterquinn5352 Did you ever figure out what it was? I have the same issue. I replaced the gauge and the sending unit.
Haven’t solved the problem yet
Same here. I suspect wiring
Gage goes full pass 80 when moving then drops when stopped
Oil pressure sensor was the problem
Omg it pains me when guys do such a wonderful tutorial and dont show the fix!!!! What was guage reading after
I videoed the gauge afterward the install. For some reason the camera jacked up that shot. It was 1am when i was editing that video, it was coming a storm so I wasnt going back out. To answer your question, the gauge is steady. But, it was erratic when it acted up. I would go for a day or two and be fine then start acting crazy again. Sooo .. so far so good. Time will tell.
