Thank you for uploading this music... a contemporary of Mozart. The piano score is very nice, the orchestration a bit less balanced. but it is wonderful! It is nice per se, and very interesting because it shows us why Mozart was such a genius. And why Viotti is a composer fully worth attention.
My impression of Viotti is that his concertos were intended be solely showpieces for his violin playing. Mozart saw his concertos as showpieces but also as high art for the sake of art itself. Mozart was equally a virtuoso and composer while Viotti was a virtuoso who composed to show his virtuosity.
Brian Knapp, if your reference point is always. Mozart or Beethoven or Bach or Brahms you will never be able to hear pieces by others composers in their own right. This work is, to my ear, beautifully balanced and composed.
Viotti: Piano Concerto No. 19 in G minor 00:00 - Maestoso e grandioso 18:05 - Andante sostenudo 26:24 - Allegretto con moto Note: My tempo markings are from a different album but is the current standard.
Viotti schrieb wunbderschön. ein herrliches, sehr gefühlvolles Andante, das ist Musik in höchster Vollendung, man schwebt im Raum !
The history of so-called minor music is full of dramatic masterpiece.

(c) "the orchestration a bit less balanced"
Perhaps the reason is that the concerto was originally written for violin (№19) ?
No one's concertos have better orchestral balance then Mozart. It's just a matter of how close they get to Mozart.
