I had the fortune to finishing 2nd to him all 3 of the motos,(Indy only) at the Triple Header: Goshen, Fort Wayne & Indianapolis in '82 over July 4th weekend. When I say "2nd", we're talking at least 20 yards behind. I learned a lot by watching him. Pedaling everything, all with 185 & 190's! Sad part is that I was later told that his father forced him to run wind-sprints with no seat/post. After hearing that, I felt it necessary to say "Hello" or "Great race" whenever I could. Nobody looked better while leading, not in my opinion...
Rick Malone...I was at the Chandler Winternationals in 1982 and 1983.....the Avalanche is the only rider that when he was in the gate, everybody stopped what they were doin’ and everyone watched him race...no one had the power, the size, the smooth style and determination...best and most naturally gifted rider BMX has ever seen before or since. The only rider today that can match his career stats is his own daughter Danica, she destroys her comp. The “Lil Avalanche” as she is known, won the world’s 10 girls main by some 25 lengths....Danica is flat awesome...
When you watch Richie's dominating holeshots now it looks like he is registered in the incorrect age class!
Was always a Richie Anderson fan, we had the same name and we're the age. Wish I was as good as him though. Lol
