    You do have to bend the headliner a bit when you take the headliner in and out of the right rear door. Just don't get too aggressive with the bending of the headliner material.

      RetroCarGuy530 And yes your right. Those visor clips are impossible to reinstall correctly unless you take them out as you mentioned.

      I first learned that info when I installed my dash camera a few months ago. After about 10 minutes of struggling with it during the headliner replacement, I finally remembered that lesson. Much quicker to install it by removing the metal clip from the roof first.

    just wondering if this replacement needs to remove the front or rear windshield to compete installation?

    • @RetroCarGuy530

      To avoid any amount of bending of the headliner, you could remove the front windshield or rear window. I was able to install it by slightly applying pressure to bend it a bit without any negative side effects.

    Great video! How do you remove the front dome light? Do you just pull straight down? Start with the rear first then front? I have been tugging on mine but I'm afraid to put too much pressure on it.

    • @RetroCarGuy530
      @RetroCarGuy530  3 года назад +1

      The front dome light assembly comes out by pulling down on the front end of it to release four metal clips. Don't pull down too aggressively because there's a wire harness on the front end to the air bag warning light indictors. Pull down the front gently and then you should be able to pull it forward a small amount to disengage the to plastic hooks that hold up the rear end of the light assembly.

    Just picked up my 2012 Caprice. Drove around 65 miles almost all tests are done and no check engine light is on yet. Drove fine just needs brakes and tires for better safety. However, as soon as I made it into my town, I was stopped at a red light and it started to smell horribly inside, like rotten eggs, very strong, stays there for hours. Smell is so bad I can't drive it with even a mask. No smoke, no smell in engine bay, no smell outside, no obvious leaks. Inside just stinks... :(

      Congrats on getting your Caprice PPV! Sorry to hear there's a rotten egg smell. That type of smell is often associated with clogged or malfunctioning catalytic converters.

      @@RetroCarGuy530 Thanks a lot. That's what I'm getting from most searches but I think it is actually a battery. Smell is strong in trunk and battery is still kind of warm after being parked for at least 3 hours. I'll replace it tomorrow and see how it goes. I'm praying that's all it is

      @@MrDeepzek Make sure you check the main battery and the aux battery (if equipped with one). Also, check the battery voltage on the DIC when the engine is running. Could it be getting overcharged by the charging system(?).
      I hope it's just a bad battery and it's easily fixed!

      @@RetroCarGuy530 yeah I guess I have to test alternator as well. It has a second battery and I'll remove it when I clean up wiring, right now it's a huge mess. I will reply with results. Thanks for assistance

      Mine had the same smell found out that the ac drain disconnected from the floor so all the water condensation was going under the rubber floor mat

    Man they really gutted the 17's of everything, even the head protection padding in the roof. They were relentless!

    • @RetroCarGuy530
      @RetroCarGuy530  4 года назад

      I was a bit surprised to see those pads missing from the 2017 headliner. I had to search the house to locate our hot glue gun to move those over from the old headliner to the replacement headliner.

    How do you remove the 3rd brake light only mine is hanging away from the back glass on one side?

    • @RetroCarGuy530
      @RetroCarGuy530  3 года назад

      There are two metal clips (one on each side of the third brake light) that are responsible for holding up the weight of the headliner/third brake light in the center section of the rear roof. If one/both of the clips have been pulled out or the plastic is broken, it could account for the third brake light hanging down. The third brake light is mounted to the headliner using three torx headed screws, but you can't get to those unless the two metal clips have been pulled out of their mounts.

    Is a 2013 Caprice ppv same as the 14s ?
    Thanks

    • @RetroCarGuy530
      @RetroCarGuy530  3 года назад +1

      The 2011-2013 Caprice is similar to the Pontiac G8. The 2014-2017 Caprice is similar to the Chevy SS Sedan.
      There definitely is a difference between the two model year groups. For instance, the power steering is hydraulic based in the 2011-2013 and the 2014-2017 have electric power steering. There are parts (mainly body / L77 engine) that are shared across all model years 2011-2017, but you need to be specific when searching for parts to make sure you get the correct one for the correct Caprice model year grouping.

    I just went to an upholstery shop and he said $300 over the phone , but when I brought in my 13 ppv the price went to $850??? Says he has to try and steam and form the contour for those rear depressed pockets in the rear, that no one knows the purpose of them.

    • @RetroCarGuy530
      @RetroCarGuy530  3 года назад +1

      The depressed pockets in rear of the headliner are where a passenger grab handle would be positioned in the non PPV vehicles. Rather than creating a new headliner shape for the Caprice PPV they simply left out the holes that would allow the grab handles to be mounted. I believe some Caprice owners have retrofitted those grab handles from a G8 or SS and mounted them in those locations after making modifications to the headliner.

    Have you ever tried to rebuild the old
    Headliner or better get a new one?

    • @RetroCarGuy530
      @RetroCarGuy530  3 года назад

      I have not tried to rebuild the old headliner because it had several holes in it. I just wasn't worth trying to fix it. Since my local wrecking yard had two Caprice PPVs, I decided to get the headliner that was the cleanest from those two cars. I think it was the 2017 Caprice PPV headliner that I purchased for my 2014 Caprice PPV.

    You never showed how to take it out and put it in smh

      I did have a camera outside of the car, but the video footage was corrupt when I downloaded it, so I could not show the headliners being passed through the right rear door opening.
      At 2:20 in the video, I mention that I removed the old headliner and inserted the replacement headliner through the right rear door. I would suggest lowering the front seat backs to allow for more maneuvering room for the headliner.
