    He came to my town for a demo. He's so talented, someone's phone rang and he began to play to the ring tone (y)

    This is the best version…
    I’ve been scouring the Internet for videos of him performing this song since I was going through puberty and this performance has remained the pinnacle of feel meets shred the entire time.

      I'm just like you and absolutely agree. Seeing that you're as freak of Guthrie as i do, i need to ask you a thing; There is also a version of him playing in moscow or there, that he plays a quote of not "careless whisper" but another cheesy song of the 80s... Do you know what video is? i forgot and i can't found it!

    Watching this again in 2024. I don't even remember when the first time was that I had watched this - all I do know is it's at least a decade back - longer in fact (maybe that was on another channel?). This and Wonderful Slippery Thing.
    Finally got me a Suhr Modern Satin in 2016 - this was pretty much the first time I'd heard of the brand. My life changed because of these 2 videos.

    I only recently discovered Guthrie, and he's so good he makes me look at my guitar and feel as though I've done nothing with it. There are surely guys who shred faster, but I don't think I've ever seen a guy who makes EVERYTHING looks this easy and sound so natural. Every style, every genre. He's so proficient at everything.

    • @dennoow
      @dennoow 4 года назад +4

      It's not the speed that's mind boggling, it's the stuff he Comes up with on the spot. He's not playing up and down scales, he's making melodies, displacing rhythms, all that at lightning speeds with every technique imaginable. He's fun but seriously accurate too!

    • @stratosaurusrex3399
      @stratosaurusrex3399 3 года назад +2

      Dennis Struijcken there’s no lag time between what he hears in his head and what comes out of the amp. He’s quite literally talking with the guitar. He IS the guitar. He said himself the fretboard is completely transparent to him.

    every rendition guthrie plays of his own songs teaches me something new about guitar. He always has some new amazing phrasing that he's worked into everything, this man's control of the instrument is crazy. I wouldn't care if he took a 100 dollar guitar and plugged it into a 10 watt amp, I would still listen and take notes. I could have listened to this song before the album one and thought it was prerecorded/prewritten.

    Guthrie once played a note that sounded bad.
    Though it wasn't a bad note. It was just a flaw he had discovered in the nature of the musical system.
    God has now corrected the flaw and Guthrie's note now sound like all the rest of them; Godlike.

    Well they both excell at improvisation and they both understand that timing and rhythmical phrasing is everything. Combine that with a superb technique and you get those 2 top notch guitar players. The reason they play different things is because they hear different things in their head and because of that and the effortless translation of their thoughts to their instruments their playing has a lot of personality. Howe is my personal favourite but I love this guy to death too!

    You are so right. Guthrie has put in about 40 years of effort, his entire life, dedicated to music. Because of this he has never ridden a bike, driven a car, or even been swimming. He is more deserving of thanks than anyone else for this. This level of musicianship takes more than dedication - it takes massive sacrifices.
