Malcolm is a very talented artist and a very intelligent and humble person!!!!! I had no idea that he went to the Musician's Institute!!!! That means he's serious about the bass and music!!! To paraphrase a line from Spider-Man,' Bass players have great power, and with that power comes great responsibility." His father went to college with Gil-Scott Heron and Bryan Jackson? WOW!!! Okay, that's what I thought, but he wasn't clear on what he does to de-tune. Drop E to D and follow the same on the other three strings? Are we talking four or five string bass?
Would have been helpful had he shared more details. Perhaps that's a bit of knowledge that could help others who seek improvement in their understanding and playing electric bass as well. Just my thoughts.
