- This lady contacted me on social media to ask for my help with the garden, being a very hard working mother and grandmother she knew she had let this gardens maintenance slip into a messy and hectic nightmare yard.
Having kids and grandkids who need to use the garden, I felt like I could at the very least, spare a few hours to get this garden back into a usable state.
I told her I would do it for free, and she thought I would change my mind once I saw the state of the garden 😂 No chance, even if I only have two hours to offer, I was sure as heck going to do my best without charging a single penny.
Join me on this, rather short, yet energetic garden clearance and tidy up. Perfect is a great goal, but when time is pressing, better isn't a bad target to aim for 😊👍

You did very well, everything was really chaotic before getting started.
Back in my childhood my dad would show us the area that was in need of weeding before he left for work in the morning. He expected the weeding to be done when he returned! No excuses were excepted.
It's not about kids then is it? A child won't weed a garden without instruction. You didn't. Stop being a boomer and blaming kids.

MARTIN! 🤩 I've missed you. Coffee and a video with you helpin a viewer is a good morning indeed! You didn't have much room to work, but you made a big difference. (Hey, if the garden thing doesn't work out, you can always play soccer!⚽) Your video successfully kept me from goin outside and soaking my mail-order Daylilies a while before planting. (Let's face it, it doesn't take much to sidetrack me these days.)
Over here, I can at least say my Potager is completely weeded and soil improved. I'm sad that an Oak tree's roots have caused the English pavers to lift and sink like ocean waves over the last 25 years. I'll try to find a way to fix it somehow I hope I don't have to totally dig the pavers out, as it would be a herculean task, but I might have to. If you have any ideas, let me know! Sounds like you're as busy in the garden as I am. That is when we're not watching gardening programs 😀
It's a real pain when tree roots do that to pavers. The only solution I've ever found is to remove the root (but risk killing the tree) building the patio higher. Or my favorite, living with wonky pavers, and trying hard not to trip every time I walk past 😂
@@martinthegardenguy hah! 🤣 We are on the same wavelength so far then... Mindful steps. I thought about building up another layer and wondered if it would work. Haha, yeah, you're not on your own there. But everyone has a story and a reason why they let some things slip.
Fortunately, I love gardening and also helping people so I try not to think about it too deeply 😅

I'm kind of enjoying the weather, but if I'm honest, I'm a cold weather gardener. I overheat too quickly 😅 I'm not designed for much past 20 degrees haha.
In my next few videos, you'll see my sun tan slowly getting darker. Despite lathering with factor 30 😅
Mowing the grass, edging and especially power washing made a huge difference.
There seems to be a lot going on in that garden, lots of fun and leisure. Great job in the time allocated. Looks much better xx

Good place for the kids to play You went the extra mile to clean the pavement. So glad you raked up that grass so it didn't get tracked into the pool, trampoline and house!

Watching Ben and Paul tackle their 1st overgrown garden, which was nothing more than a bramble thicket and with very limited and basic equipment to what they do now ... How do you find the battery strimmer ? How long do you get out a charge ?

The strimmer is pretty good, really, awesome power. It does last quite a while. It has three speeds, which affects this, though. So it's hard to say how long it lasts.
It's a respectful amount of time, though. I've always been happy with it. Although I still have the petrol power unit to 😂
@@martinthegardenguy thanks 👍 iv invested in some AP battery tools from the Stihl range, very impressed with the hedge cutter so considering a strimmer as well but I know the timings aren't as good. Saves the hassle of fuel and servicing though.
What you can achieve in just two hours is wonderful. I like how you said “hit the reset button with this garden”, just that one line gave me goosebumps because that’s what you do. Changing the eyesore into tidy and happy again, lifting off the weight from her shoulders. We love you Martin ❤

Martin, that was quite a dump. You did a beautiful job. I don’t think this homeowner is interested in keeping up with this yard. It will be back to this mess in a months time. Some people are quite comfortable living in squalor. Again, you did a beautiful job. Your hearts in the right place.👏👏👍🏻
Wow....wouldn't call it a dump or squalor! But, it seems, there are also people who are happy to be @rseholes to strangers on the Internet to make their sad lives seem more worthwhile. I know who's garden I'd rather go and sit in for a brew.
