    Great to but I thought concertoist play from the front of the orchestra...

      Most of the time yes, but when you have many different percussion instruments, it's hard to fit all of that in the front of the stage. I probably could have if they really really wanted to, but it would cover the entire orchestra up and make it hard on the percussionist to weave through all of those instruments. :)

      The score actually calls for two set ups, one in front of the orchestra, one behind
