In the middle 70's I was a technician with our telecoms company and worked in a small town, 400km from Cape Town. Our construction team had a petrol Bedford truck, which had a slight crack in the block. I got the of job taking it to Cape Town to swap it for a new diesel model. It was recommended that I don't go faster than 70 km/h, and the trip took me 7 hours. I was looking forward to getting the new diesel, as it was brand new and the return trip would be much quicker. But, alas, it was governored at 80! My parents lived about 75 km out of town in the direction I was taking, so I slept over and resumed my trip the next day. The first thing the gang foreman did was to have the governor removed, as they had long distances to travel for their jobs.

It was very considerate of you to give the warning at the end about ways that you could still over rev the engine. It never hurts to be careful!

I think that is a great addition to the M37 Dodge. Even with your warning at the end I think it will preserve the engine of the old truck. Great video Steve, thanks for sharing the install. 👍👍

Some well thought out upgrades to a beast of a tow truck. Smart to go with rev limiter and new cable and hooks. Amazing how low hp and gears get the job done.

Sweet Rig! Have you considered installing an original PTO driven Braden winch on the front?

Should have got a msd box with a built in limiter that way you get upgraded ignition plus your limiter you're looking for.

I have a M37 with a Chevy engine, 410 gears in Chevy/dana axles. With the original engine and drive train it will not do over 45MPH for very long without damaging the engine. The original axles and brakes are not very strong either. Hence the powerplant swap...

looks like the vehicle doesn't have enough HP to exceed the 3000RPM limit in top gear on a flat surface.
