  • I came across this steep roof and took this video about installing the roof jacks and the board before installing the roofing materials.
    For many people out there hope this video gives you an idea how to install them.
    Thank you for watching.

    by the way , please don't try to patch or fix a leak on single ply membrane because you won't be able to do it , you need to use the same materials and technique , Do not use roof cement ( henry) silicone ( silicone has to be compatible with this membrane.
    thanks for watching
    Eric.

      Roofing Solutions By Eric Garcia I'm not into all that Mexican this and that. They are people just like you and I. There are many things that can be said that is more positive than that. I love the way he does his video. He showed how it is to be done and to make you you got it, he showed it to you again. Keep up the good work. Thanks for the advice on how to use the roof jacks.

    Use 20d galvanized nails.
    As the head is big on them
    Roof jack wont move.
    Do not need to put at an angle.

    how does one find a rafter if underlayment is already on deck? and wouldn't putting a shingle over a roof jack (before securing first) make it not lay properly? should you install the roof jack already under a secured nailed shingle?

    So those nails that are used to secure the roof jacks...are they going to cause leaks?????

    • @breaux2806
      @breaux2806 7 лет назад

      Nope =) they are under the shingle above so water will pour right over it without ever touching the nails that were used to hold up the jacks

    • @thehamstaa5148
      @thehamstaa5148 6 лет назад

      Carolyn Harper yes they leak unless you use tar on them...also the wind is likely to remove those shingles first in a storm. Always carry a calking gun when taking down the jacks.

      As Comrade X7 says below - shingle over. And, as the man states in video, it is hot. There is a certain amount of melting among the shingles.

    What is the white membrane called on the flat roof? What is the purpose of it?

      I have the same question. I bought a house with a second story deck with that material on it.

    • @Garciasroofing
      @Garciasroofing  8 лет назад

      the white membrane is called Single ply ,it's a new system that came out 20 to 30 years ago, the system has changed a little bit , but the membrane is the same, it heat welded on the seams.
      this time I used PVC membrane , still is a single ply , because it's a single ply membrane over a board called dens deck.

    Ah you should have mention never use roofing nails on roof jacks because it too weak and the head is easily bend or break off. Always use common nails like you, which is stronger and the head is small enough to slide off the nail slots when removing the roof jacks.

    The technique is right, but you didnt watch your own video, because if you did you would have realized your finger was covering the camera while you were installing your nails( while installing Jack's use hefty nails like 16d. Not just roofing nails. And it it very important that they hit rafters) .

    Hi, I’m trying to figure out at what angle you’re putting those nails in. In this video you need to let someone else hold the camera. Your hand is covering up the lens in this video. Please redo this video for all of the World to see this. I’ve talked to several people that say you shouldn’t put an angle on the nails. In your video I can’t see how you’re doing this. I know you know what you’re doing so please redo this video. Show a close up of the nails after you’ve driven them in. Zoom in on the nails. Or get a macro lens attachment for your camera. I know I’m asking a lot of you but the truth is that you’re the best at roofing so you need the right lens to show your technique. Thanks for everything. The best way to show someone how to put the roof jacks on is down on the ground where you’re not under any stress. Use a dog house or build a small example roof. This is just a suggestion. I’m say all of this because I couldn’t see on this video how you put the 3 nails in. It’s extremely hard to shoot video with one hand and nail the roof jacks. Thanks so very much for your videos. I love them.
