The Overwatch 2 situation was so funny. They let Overwatch stagnate for years with the promise of deep PvE content, released Overwatch 2 early just to get something out, and then scrapped the in depth PvE essentially nullifying the whole point of ruining Overwatch

OW2 is the definition of shooting themselves in the foot. They just had to balance the game like usual, drip feed content and all the while work on OW2. People would have come back by the multitudes for the PvE. Ah well. Their loss.

The biggest issue when these companies ear each other is that output typically decreases because competition decreases. It means less jobs for the workers because of consolidation. Activision has killed so many studios.

I didn't mind at first but then you look at all the companies they have bought and how few good games they have been able to produce and it starts to feel like all they are really doing is reducing competition for sony and Nintendo.
No more than Sony when they bought all the studios they bought between 1999 and 2004 who now make the vast majority of the great games they are praised for.

@@hwanniggles187 no there isn't. Publishing only means they sell games. Many devs self publish. So any dev that self publishes is technically a publisher by definition. In gaming a publisher is defined as a company that sells games. And a dev is defined as those who create games. Both titles fit acquisitions by both MS and Sony. So there is no difference.

What Nintendo has done with the Switch after the WiiU debacle is amazing. More exclusives than both Sony & M$. Highest selling games that are exclusives, and all of this with only one acquisition in recent years. Not to mention, the Switch is the 3rd highest selling console of all time already too.
The money thing you mentioned towards the end, will be hard for ABK to not make MS a lot of money. Mostly bc the K in that abbreviation is a money printing machine. King makes mobile games and their mobile games are gonna make back the money spent relatively rapidly. CoD prints money too but to a lower degree than the mobile games. Only way this ownership fails is if MS just doesn't make any content.
"Relatively shortly" is probably 15 to 25 years. Any less then that and the price would've been increased to reach 15~25.
Of course abk's income can change a affect that time frame but their provisions are around that

Sony, on the other hand is worth 108 billion dollars, and made a profit of 88 billion in 2022. Microsoft could buy Sony and have 27 billion dollars left over. This consolidation is not good for the industry as a whole. Microsoft owns so much of the gaming industry that they dont have to try to make good products. We can all have our favorite game franchises, but we shouldn't be cheering an absolutely massive corporation getting even bigger.

That's not really the case over the last few years. It's tkaen some time for them to learn from their lessons, but I do believe they're either now getting into a good positon with how their running and operating things .. or at the least they're much closer to hitting that mark.

I know gamers tunnel-vision on the gaming side, but MS has Cloud, Office, and Windows which brings in tens of billions of profit each quarter and each one of those divisions are worth significantly more than Xbox. 😂
As long as MS is getting to their desired goals and making Xbox profitable, it’s not about “beating Sony in revenue.” Believe it or not, companies aren’t as focused on beating each other in the console war as much as gamers are.

Phil has been on record saying that now that they have beefed up their content nad game studios, they'll be able to release games in a good cadence, but also be able to provide ampale time to the studios for the games they're making. GamePass isn't dependent on one single game which allow s more creativity and risk. I understand the caustion for sure, but at least for me, I'm willing to trust MS to some degree that they won't totallt compleltly screw everything up lol... but we shall see

In some context to bandai namco, they have a pretty big spot, considering they've ran majority of the anime/videogames portion of gaming, with sony owning crunchy roll and funimation there is some sort of link between that.

Bigger companies buying out other publishers or developers Isnt really an issue. Sometimes it allows smaller companies to have access to money and resources that they want to have otherwise. The bigger issue comes when they're making decisions purely based on investors and stock price.

The only good things I see from this are:

- And BattleNet is finally going the way of the dodo
The only two good thing about this in my opinion is one Microsoft deals with the bad employees and we can finally play the transformer games again

The problem is Sony was purchasing studios back in the day and we're seeing the benefits of that now. The only way Xbox can compete as if they have some studios under their belt themselves because up until this point that was xbox's main problem! And unfortunately in America the only way to stay competitive or to compete is mergers and acquisitions smh!
Disney did the same thing, buying a ton of studios for a high price. They ended up cutting corners attempting to recoup capital, product got shotty, people stopped watching and are now in alot of trouble. I hope MS is careful and doesnt F this up.

For everyone worried that this is a monopoly, it 100 percent isn't a monopoly because Xbox is in 3rd place and they are clearly really having a hard time :( so its only fair that we let them buy up everything to remain competitive. I mean, when it comes to gaming PCs, the Windows OS is only on 70% of desktops, so how can we expect Microsoft to remain afloat?

Well I play WoW because of the Dragon Race addition. I abandoned all my other characters and started over. Minus a few Characters for the special Race Pacific armor skins you know.
