Thank you for making this comparison, I believe no one really done a video that is just comparison. When I learned there are different version, the pro-art anti-censor in me was enraged and confused, thinking getting the "original version" would be very hard and expensive. But if the original creator is overseeing the changes, in some cases I can just accept the changes as the definitive edition of the art.
Thank you for posting such an awesome review on The Absolute Sandman. I had the original single issues as a kid, but lost them through the years. Thank you for posting a color comparison to the originals. Awesome channel! I will subscribe and show support!
I just placed an order on the Absolute editions and then read that there was a black and white version of the books and almost turned white myself thinking that's what I ordered on accident. Thank you for quickly putting my fears to rest. I started reading this story online and it's so good I have to finish it in physical edition, so I definitely feel I need the colors for my first read through of it. I saw you commented that the black and white versions are annotated, so is that comments and thoughts from Gaiman included in the books? Thank you very much for this video.
Haha i'm glad I could set your mind at ease. The Annotated Sandman is indeed black and white and I've been thinking about making a video on them for a while now. The annotations aren't Gaiman's verbatim, but do contain references to things he's referred to. I agree with you, for your first time reading the story, the colours should be part of the experience, even though there are a couple of different versions of the colours out there as this video shows. If you enjoy the story, read along with us in our Sharing the Sandman videos, an ongoing two-person book club! 😁
Appreciate the comparison. I’m rereading The Sandman at the moment; I have the TPBs with the original colouring so I’ve picked up the ComiXology versions which have the Absolute recolouring - and it looks fantastic, definitely h (just finished The Dolls House) has more impact relative to the original colouring. I’ve only bought one Absolute edition to date (Watchmen) but rewatching your video for a fourth time, I’m sorely tempted to pick up the four The Sandman Absolute editions. The story and artwork more than warrant the luxury treatment and they do look particularly fine. Thanks for posting the video, I appreciate the look inside along with the comparison.
Thanks so much - glad it helped! And yes, if there ever has been a story deserving of this Absolute treatment, it is the epic, literary Sandman. I love Absolute Watchmen and Absolute New Frontier as well, but if I had to pick only one Absolute, I am pretty sure it would be Sandman. I'd be interested in what you think of the Kindly Ones, with its bold colours and inky lines on large, high quality pages, when you get to it.
thanks for this, it was very interesting, the only negative things I see here, which I also saw in the omnibus, is that the drawing cover the whole page but the book does not open flat, so part of the picture always ends up in the fold. I wish we just had margins!
riffrff Ah yes, ‘gutter loss’ is often an issue for thick volumes in hardcover binding, especially when you want to be careful not to crack the spine! I don’t know about the huge omnibuses, but it’s not too bad in the Absolutes due to the presence of a small white margin. You can see it in the video a little bit - the white margin takes the curve and the colour is in the visible area. At certain times it may still be a little obscured, but for the most I don’t think it’s as bad as I’ve seen in some other books. Certainly I don’t think any text is unreadable, but I will check again and update here. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thank you for such a fantastic review. I did own the omnibus editions, however decided they were simply to big and cumbersome and moved them on, and have been looking at getting the 5 Absolute Editions, plus Overture and Death, although now they have produced the "Deluxe Editions", I'm now unsure of what to buy. Although they are Deluxe editions, there does not seem much deluxe about them! No additional content, no cover art, and the paper is apparently extremely thin!
Oh that's unfortunate to hear about the deluxes. How's the paper/ page thickness on the omnibus editions? I know they're humongous, but I wondered if they had still used thinner paper to keep the bulk down.
Great video. So many editions out there for further comparison if you had the budget. Omni, Annotated, Noir, digital, tpbs, HCs, comic book reprints...
Oh yes! But the omnibuses don't interest me that much since they're essentially the absolutes but bulkier. I have the annotated editions which have the benefit of being in black and white as well as annotated, so that's a good version that should hopefully get a video someday. I didn't know there was a noir edition of the Sandman! I wonder how different the art presentation would be from the annotated...
Yes, all 75 issues and a couple of the specials published during the original run are all included in these four Absolutes. The fifth volume contains Endless Nights and other related comics published after the original 75 issues.
I have a question: I've just restarted Sandman after not being that big a fan of volume 1 (specially the art and horror vibes but love Morpheus' design). I am looking at the different editions (absolutely, omni, hardcovers, slipcase, etc) and I have heard people saying absolute editions are a bit too big to be handled easily (that they are a bit cumbersome to read from). Is that the case? Which format would you buy (if you had a limited amount of money)? I personally like the deluxe hardcover but they are difficult and expensive to find, but the other three are all possible.
The Absolutes are beautiful but yes, not for reading in bed, say, and the omnibuses even less so! Just get the tpbs if you want to read them and consider expense and luxury later if you feel the series is worth it for you. The reading and story is always the most important, and I'd never recommend spending a lot of money on something you don't enjoy just for the sake of it!
@@ftloc I'm going to read it first in digital format and then I'll decide whether or not to buy the slipcase or the absolutes. Double dipping on a 200+€ series is not for me, but thanks for the advice.
Oh yeah, reading digitally, or from a library, or borrowing from a friend, is definitely the way to go; I didn't mean you actually had to buy the series twice! I've double dipped or worse in ridiculous ways very often, but am getting better at selling/trading the first set these days. Actually this is a great topic for a 'what on earth is wrong with collecfors' video now that I think about it! 😁
Is the Absolute Edition of Sandman your preferred method of reading? There are new hardcover deluxe editions available now but one reviewer mentioned the pages were super thin for that one.
In the original trade HCs, shown in several videos including my most recent one on The Annotated Sandman, is my all time favourite way to read it, although the singles and the Absolutes also rank pretty high!
This is a really detailed review of the Absolutes. However, I'm still having a really hard time deciding if I should get the Absolutes or Omnibi. Content-wise (like additional stories, etc), which do you recommend?
It really comes down to personal choice: there are no content differences as far as I know (although, as I don't have the Omnibuses I cannot confirm that there are zero). The Omnibuses may end up being slightly cheaper to get for the whole story, but at that size and heft, not everyone is comfortable reading them. I'm not a big fan of very fat omnibuses myself, so the Absolutes are just at that upper limit for me, bulk wise. I hope this helps in some way 😊
@@ftloc I agree. I think Omnibi are prone to damages due to the size and weight plus reading will be a bit harder, I think. Thanks! Gonna start collecting now haha
It really is down to whichever you decide to get. I normally pick up Omnibi, but some are just so insanely large and heavy like Jack Kirby's Fourth World, they can be difficult to read. I have done manual labor my whole life, and my hands/wrists aren't what they used to be. So I opted for the Absolute Editions for Sandman and I couldn't be happier. :) Also, shop around because the prices on some are starting to spike with the announcement of the TV Show. So some are getting pricey, but you can still find many websites that have decently priced copies.
You should have done a colour comparison with some of the later volumes since, at the time, Gaiman said only the first 18 issues needed and got new colouring, the rest didn't (though it still seems a bit touched up)
@@ftloc HA well that makes a lot of sense! I was just trying to figure out exactly when the major recolouring stopped--but I think your video and an interview from when these came out with Gaiman answered my question (he did say issues 1-8 were re-coloured). Thanks for the great vid!
Gonna get these 4 from a fundraiser. They're used copies but I hope they're in great condition still. Have the first volume and Absolute Death already as well. On a side note you sir are deserving of another sub. Here, have mine.
Thank you and a very warm welcome! And these books are so well produced I have no doubt that, barring outright damage, used copies would hold up very well to shelf wear and the like. Let me know what you think of them once you've had a chance to revel in them a while! 😁
Definitely absolute Sandman collections look really good. ( For me Sandman( for me personally I've read it from start to finish a couple of years back the first 40 issues were amazing for me but being that said I felt like 41 and up lost me I completely understood what Neil Gaiman was going for which completely work but it for me personally I just it didn't do anything for me it's still great storytelling but that's just probably might be my taste) is one of the best series from DC ever written. And Neil Gaiman definitely really put his heart and soul into that series. And so many spin-offs from the main series of Sandman it's a star sing like one of my favorite series that spawned out of salmon that I love this day was Lucifer and also having his sister death get a few mini-series they were really good. And the whole concept of the Endless and you know his dealings with Lucifer and two up to his death and him passing on and then having being replaced. But yet not being replaced like having a deep metaphor that he may die but this version of may die but he truly can't die for dreams don't really die they're just reborn it at a different way
I do count _Brief Lives_ as one of my favorite parts of the series but I can understand why someone would find the first part more compelling. Also, Lucifer is really a series that made me think spinoffs and continuations can also be very good and have their own identity - it was a lot of fun! I also like Hellblazer, but I don't think of it as a spinoff as much as I do Lucifer! Great observations, thanks for sharing! 😊
Question: now theres a new box set, and the omnibus, and a new deluxe edition coming out. I don't know which one to buy! Should I wait for deluxe and borrow the comics from a friend or buy the box set?
The box set is the trade paperbacks, I think, just in a box. SO that's a good way to have them all in one fell swoop, if you were considering the TPBs. The omnibuses are massive, so it really is about if you want to read from start to finish, for which they *may* be a little cumbersome (or not, mileage may vary). The deluxe editions I am unaware of - are they hardcover? I'd say borrow the first two or three volumes from a friend (you may love it from the very start, but give it at least till the end of volume 2 if you don't) and see if it is a series for you. Then you can think of if hardcover or paperback is the way you want to go, and so on...
@@ftloc Deluxe editions I believe are hardcover. They are still in preorder. Link below. I've read until the end of season of mists (vol4 ), loving the narrative so far so i'm happy to commit to the remaining books. I hear they keep getting better? I might get the box set and then if I like the series just buy a nicer set later on. www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/617405/the-sandman-the-deluxe-edition-book-one-by-neil-gaiman/
Well, the original slim hardcovers remain my favourite way to read the series so that's what I would recommend. You may want to look at the prices though - the Absolutes may end up being cheaper to get through ten volumes, that too in a larger size? Decisions, decisions...
Having so much trouble making up my mind whether to grab the Absolutes of Sandman, Preacher, or Y: The Last Man. Ive never read any of them but have been told I would really like all 3 series. Money is a little tighter than usual so close to Christmas, but Id like to treat myself to at least one of these. lol Fantastic video, btw.
That's a deliciously tough decision! They're all among my favourites, and they're all very different things. I think, however, that both Y and Preacher may be books that one changes one's mind about over a period of time, whereas Sandman - if you like it - will be pretty evergreen. It's not necessary that either will happen, but as a set of gigantic deluxe tomes celebrating a story, Sandman probably gets my bet for standing up the best.
Just wanted to thank you for your thoughts on my prior dilemma. I went ahead and ordered the first 3 Absolutes of Sandman and have been switching between reading Vol 1 and the first few issues of the Preacher and Y: The Last Man last week. So far they are all very good, but Sandman has been an almost preternatural experience so far. So much so that I'm already well into Vol 2 now and I've gone ahead and ordered the the 4th Absolute Vol and the Sandman Overture Absolute this morning. I will decide later if I want to spring for the 5th Vol and Absolute Death. Anyhow, I just wanted to let you know that you have my gratitude for steering me towards these deliciously beautiful bound works of art.
I am so glad to hear how much you're enjoying all those books, especially the Absolute Sandman volumes! I haven't read Overture myself (I didn't love Gaiman returning to the Sandman 'universe' in Endless Nights so I'm not that interested in a prequel ) but I did enjoy the Death books. Nothing compares to the original 75-issue series though, so the 4 volumes are a pretty solid get no matter what! Thanks so much for sharing - do keep updating us on how the Sandman reads go! 😀
What an interesting idea! I have mulled the idea of 'redux'ing some videos with better light and audio, for example, but I was worried about spending too much time 'looking backwards'/ navel gazing/ George Lucas-ing instead of trying new things. At the same time, there is always the urge to revise and re-do, especially when older things are embarrassing! 😁
This looks like a missed opportunity. Would have loved to see the original black and white drawings, at least for the earlier editions with poor quality colouring. But compared to the new editions, I'd take the originals every time.
Apparently the Annotated Sandman volumes are in black and white. I need to check those out, because I agree with you that B&W would be great, for especially the earlier stories!
Great Video! Could you please let me know whether this is the ultimate sandman edition to collect and it comprises of all the books written on Sandman? I also want to ask you about your opinion that there will be a new Sandman box set of 14 books to be released soon by the end of the year, if I am not wrong? Which one do you think is better to collect? Thanks. I'd really appreaciate your help. P.S: Also there is the omnibus and the deluxe edition. I'm rather confused which one might be the one to go for.
Those are all great questions and considerations. I'd say it completely depends on you. For me the omnibuses are a bit too large and unwieldy for reading, despite being handsome productions. Even the Absolutes as lovely as they are, like many absolutes, a little hard to read unless you have the perfect setup. Hardcover volumes for each of the eleven volumes, plus Death, the Endless, overture etc is probably the best combination of readability and handsome production. Then again, depending on you, something like Overture, with the JH Williams art, may be something you only want in large absolute format. As for all the books, there's a lot of Sandman stories both by Neil Gaiman and others. Four Absolute Editions include the original 75 issue run, volume 5 has the ten years later Endless stories and a couple of spinoffs, Death has more spinoff stories, and Overture is the decades later prequel. I hope that helps a little bit?
A S Not bad at all, given there are 75 issues and specials. Did you manage to get them all at once or bit by bit? If you haven’t already, check out our video on the first 20 issues!
Could you please help me. I have only recently discovered Sandman and am so confused. What is the difference between Absolute Sandman and the various issues and also then the volumes. I want to collect all the stories and don't want to pay too much... tx
Hi. Do you think this is worth it? On amazon, each of them is about 4 thousand rupees. Is that the regular price, or is the price higher than normal. I think the plot is very interesting, and I want to get these, but I'd rather wait if I am paying more than normal.
I'd say 4k is a decent, standard price - if you don;t mind waiting and watching, sometimes you can snag them for lower. But there's no guarantee, or what volume will go down in price etc. I bought them all out of order over many years (I had the tpbs to read) waiting for sales/ book fairs. But 4k is not a bad price by any means. I hope that helps?
@@ftloc Thanks a lot, in that case I wont get these because I'm looking for cheaper comics at the moment like the Watchmen or the Dark Knight returns. The plot seems interesting so I might get in the future.
@@ftloc What is this set- www.amazon.in/Sandman-Box-Set-Neil-Gaiman/dp/1401294707/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=sandman+omnibus+1&qid=1621182633&sr=8-3 Does it include every book, the normal editions?
I'm finding it hard to find an exact definitive answer to what im after, and posibly you can help. As you might have heard vertigo was dropped by dc and so from now on, all reprints will have just the dc black label instead of the vertigo/dc logo. Because of that, only volume 1 (from what i can see) so far has been reprinted with the new just DC logo and because of that specific thing ive decided to collect the old ones, with the original vertigo logo as they're easier to come by, and as of now only volume 1 is available in the new printing and would look odd to have all of them but some with different publisher labels. I've come across it many times, but it seems there were original printings from 2006/2007 of the absolutes but also reprints in 2011. My confusion is if there is any difference between the two versions because many websites keep giving me both the different years and it's stressful for no reason. I've ordered the first volume, should be the 2011 print, and I'd like to order the rest with corresponding years, so they all match with the same logo. So if theres any difference, i'd love to know because i cant find it anywhere online. (Im also not really sure how printing works, im sure they aernt still leftovers FROM 2011, just reprints of the same print that was printed in 2011.. etc. if that makes sense) Thank you for any help :) Appreciate it
As all my volumes are from 2006-2008, I can unfortunately only guess at an answer, but I am hoping it's a slightly educated guess: They should be the same. Karen Berger left DC in 2013 and the DC VERTIGO relaunch happened in 2018, before it was finally closed in 2019. By that logic, the 2011 reprints should have been 'business as usual' as far as their logos and design are concerned. I'd love to know if you find this to be true or not!
@@ftloc I definitely think you're right, and im overthinking it too much haha. I just wanted to be safe, to ensure no matter which one i ordered, they would all have the same matchinig vertigo logo on the binding, and I wasn't missing out on anything :) Thank you for that Edit: I know its quite 50/50 among the community, but i absolutely love the recolouring, i think it looks amazing, i have never read the original one to see the original colouring, but i prefer things moderen, and I think it enhances the story if its your first time viewing.
Thanks so much for watching, and for the feedback. We're just getting started so these videos are a bit rough. We definitely want closer comparisons and just need to learn more about the tech. For the Love of Comics I actually watched those last! I think you’re on the right path, and every new video is better than the last. Great job all around.
What about Sandman TPB Expanded Edition Box Set or the 30th anniversary or the deluxe edition? I really want to buy them one day but i dont know what set to buy and i need help :/
I like the idea of reading them in 11 volumes actually - each volume has a distinct identity and they are easier to manage than large Absolute/ Omnibus volumes. I don't have these new editions though so cannot speak for the details, but I know they will all contain the recoloured pages featured in the Absolute.
@@ftloc Are the 11 volume the 30th anniversary ones? Also i would like for sure the original colours but aren't they only available on the old original comics? is there a way to get the original colours chipper?
You're a Boss But please can you explain to me the difference between this version and the omnibus What is missing here or there as for the story and side stories Thanks in advance
The Omnibuses are just fatter, collecting in two volumes what the Absolutes have in four. So depending on the price you find them for, may represent better value? Nothing else different content wise. Personally, they're too cumbersome for me but a lot of people seem to like them!
Thank you so much! As for your conundrum, all I can say is that for me, the Absolutes are already at the maximum bulk/thickness I enjoy, so I've never had any interest in the omnibuses. Value-wise, I think the omnibuses win? But they're just so cumbersome looking! 😓 Let me know what you end up deciding on!
@@ftlocYour very welcome. I have decided to go for the absolutes. I completely agree with your points about owning the absolutes compared to the omnibus edition. It will take me a while as I have alot of comic omnibuses that I would like to purchase before they go out of print. But I believe the absolutes will be a worthy investment. As this is how Sandman should be read.
Unfortunately, only seeking out the older editions (pre-Absolute Edition) in singles, TPB, or hardcover will help those who want the original colours. I don't know of anything like the Absolutes in size or production for the full series though, at least in English, although perhaps there are some rare and hard to find versions out there.
I hesitate to make a generalization about all kids of one age, but I feel a mature 15 year old could definitely enjoy the Sandman, especially if they are interested in myths, legends, fantasy and world literature. If they like reading books, I think this would work for them. If they've never read comics before, may I also suggest the comics I recommend in this video here? ruclips.net/video/dYe4MG-OrO8/видео.html Cheers!
Ouch, that's not cool! It's a great story, as I am sure you know, and definitely a part of the Absolute Editions, so I am confused as to why they would leave it out of the Omnibus Editions. Are you sure it isn't in Vol 1 by any chance?
Unfortunately i do not own Sandman Omnibus Volume 1.I have all the trade paperback Volumes upto Volume 6,so i don't have any idea if it is there or not.And i have read the story in trade paperback(Vol 6).
I absolutely agree! If you catch the 'Sharing the Sandman' series of videos I do with my wife, you'll see us choose which formats we want to read the series in first! 😁
I finally ordered volume 1. but knowing I can't read it in bed is too bad. my absolute Y the last man was manageable, but it's spine seems a bit more robust
Joseph Olsen Let me know how you like it, especially the recolouring if this is the first you encounter it. And if Y was manageable in bed for you, maybe this would be too? Although there are some comments on the spine cracking in this that I’ve never heard of re: Y, as you say.
These are gorgeous... my sister is a big Sandman fan.. I never got into the series myself, but the story and idea of the book is really well done. I had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Gaiman speak at Columbia Uni, a few years back, he's a very talented guy
That sounds wonderful; I'd love to meet him someday, he sounds like a giant brain 😁! If you're interested in taking a shot at the Sandman, my wife and I have just started a read through (her reading for the first time, me revisiting it) and are making a series of videos on our progress. I'm assuming you meant 'dislike' and I appreciate the compliment inherent in "most likely only" 😀. I am not troubled by getting a dislike now and again, but I do wish that people would leave a comment on what they disliked about a video. When you put in work and effort, it's demoralizing to see people just give a thumbs down without having any feedback or idea why. In any case, I appreciate you not leaving a dislike, but I would love to know what you disliked so much that you'd consider leaving the first one. Thanks for watching!
i'm perplexed... can you please do another video without those other 3 big ass books dominating the screen the ENTIRE video? between the zoomed out angle, and shadows i cant even remotely tell what youre trying to compare... very bizarre choice.
The bizarreness of the choices are completely attributable to me not knowing what I was doing at all. The phone, which had a middling camera to begin with, was precariously perched on a stack of books and I didn't want to touch it, the only light I had was the window, which I could not face better due to the furniture in the room. I knew I didn't want handheld, and wanted to display the size and experience of thumbing through these books. The colour comparisons I wanted to make are indicative more than a forensic analysis, so I went with the best I could do at the time and was capable of then. Hopefully my skills have somewhat improved over the years, and I'll always be happy that this video and the viewers it brought me taught me what it did. Maybe I will revisit it one day with better skills, but so many comics, so little time 😁
HATE the recoloring. Pure stupidity on DC's part and an insult to the original colorist. Why not make some improvements to the Mona Lisa? The original psychedelic version is unique and evocative, and fits perfectly with a story about dreams. And ironically, the cheesey digital recoloring from 2006 with its basic Photoshop gradients and airbrushing now looks far more dated than the original.
larry lovehandle ‘Psychadelic’ is a very good word for the original colour scheme and I can’t help agree that a lot of the original power of the weird is made a lot more generic. I do think some of the earliest, more ‘muddy’ backgrounds are clarified a bit, at least for me, but I definitely miss the purple and brown. The recolouring of Watchmen is a bit more problematic and egregious to me, as perhaps an upcoming video will show! 😀
I have been avoiding the Absoluts, Omnibus, even the recent paperbacks because they are recolored. Eventough as far I understand, Gaiman express his approval about it and he was involved on all the process: itjournal.neilgaiman.com/2006/06/several-answers.html?m=1
Yes, but as George Lucas and Peter Jackson have taught me, even great original creators being involved in revisiting their masterworks is no guarantee of brilliance =) . Maybe I don't dislike the recolouring as vehemently as others, because I do see some places/reasons why it was needed (both in Sandman and Watchmen, as my Watchmen videos say) but I certainly wish it had been done differently!

Great to see the colouring comparison - I was looking for something like this all around the internet! Subbed.
Filip Kevély thanks so much, that is great to hear! We’d love any recommendations or suggestions for you may have.
So glad you enjoyed the video and a very warm welcome to the channel! Here's to you finding plenty more to enjoy here! Cheers!
Thanks for the review the shows rekindled my love for the comics, and I was curious if I wanted to chase the absolute volumes.
They're definitely the leading contenders for most people! Of you make a final decision, let me know what you sent with!
U do😊
Amazing video! They are very well prepared, well researched, well presented. Excellent work sir! Subscribed!
Rangersly Jr Thank you sir! Reactions like yours are the reasons to make these videos! 🙂

Thank you so very much and greetings right back at you from India! 😁
You have done a super job , I still love your review, after so many years..!!
Thank you, that sure puts a smile on my face!
Just wanted to say I really enjoyed your video and found it to be really helpful!
Glad you enjoyed it! Cheers!
Great video! Just got the 4 absolutes today :)
Zec Nice! Let us know what you think once you’ve had a chance to enjoy them!
I wonder how different the art presentation would be from the annotated...
quick question, do these 4 volumes contain all 75 issues meaning the complete story in these 4 volumes?
Yes, all 75 issues and a couple of the specials published during the original run are all included in these four Absolutes. The fifth volume contains Endless Nights and other related comics published after the original 75 issues.
@@ftloc Thank you good sir for answering my questions on an old video
@@random_dude26 haha I'm always around! 😁
These types of editions are for collections of super fans not casual readers. Get some paper back graphic novels.
Also, shop around because the prices on some are starting to spike with the announcement of the TV Show. So some are getting pricey, but you can still find many websites that have decently priced copies.
You should have done a colour comparison with some of the later volumes since, at the time, Gaiman said only the first 18 issues needed and got new colouring, the rest didn't (though it still seems a bit touched up)
Yes that's exactly why I thought the biggest differences would be evident in the early pages! ( Also I didn't want to give spoilers accidentally 😁)
This is the video that made me subscribe to For the love of comics
Definitely absolute Sandman collections look really good.
(
For me Sandman( for me personally I've read it from start to finish a couple of years back the first 40 issues were amazing for me but being that said I felt like 41 and up lost me I completely understood what Neil Gaiman was going for which completely work but it for me personally I just it didn't do anything for me it's still great storytelling but that's just probably might be my taste) is one of the best series from DC ever written.
For the Love of Comics thank you!!
@@ftloc hey there! Do you mean the thin hardcovers with original coloring?
Try preacher it is only 3 books
FTLOC, is it maybe time for an Absolute edition of your Sandman videos? Would love to see some of your older videos remade in your 2021 style!
I wonder if my copy of Sandman vol 6 and 9 are both reprints.
The tons? You can look on the copyright page to see edition and printing numbers, or use the ISBN to check on Amazon etc
@@ftloc Ah, I see. That surely helps to make up my mind for good. The absolute edtions sounds the one I should go for. Thanks a bunch!
Well done color comparison video.
sleestack13 thanks so much; I’m glad you enjoyed it!
I’ve assembled the original comic run for about 120 quid
A S Not bad at all, given there are 75 issues and specials. Did you manage to get them all at once or bit by bit? If you haven’t already, check out our video on the first 20 issues!
bit by bit... as expected the early issues cost the most.. issue 2 more than 1! picked up 1 for 16.79. only have two specials so far.

Fantastic review! Thank you!
Great review. Very helpful. I will be buying them.
Tenacious4Life00 Glad you liked it and it helped with the decision!
(Im also not really sure how printing works, im sure they aernt still leftovers FROM 2011, just reprints of the same print that was printed in 2011.. etc. if that makes sense)
Thank you for any help :) Appreciate it
As all my volumes are from 2006-2008, I can unfortunately only guess at an answer, but I am hoping it's a slightly educated guess: They should be the same.
I just wanted to be safe, to ensure no matter which one i ordered, they would all have the same matchinig vertigo logo on the binding, and I wasn't missing out on anything :) Thank you for that
Edit: I know its quite 50/50 among the community, but i absolutely love the recolouring, i think it looks amazing, i have never read the original one to see the original colouring, but i prefer things moderen, and I think it enhances the story if its your first time viewing.
Good video, closer shots of color comparison would have been really nice.

You're a Boss
But please can you explain to me the difference between this version and the omnibus
What is missing here or there as for the story and side stories
Thanks in advance
The Omnibuses are just fatter, collecting in two volumes what the Absolutes have in four. So depending on the price you find them for, may represent better value? Nothing else different content wise. Personally, they're too cumbersome for me but a lot of people seem to like them!
@@ftloc thanks mate you're geeat, now I know what to order and it's three books now for the omnibuses according to Amazon
Very good review and comparison, thank you.
Thank *you* for watching and so glad you enjoyed it!
Have you got a look at absolute death?
I have! A friend owns it and I've been tempted by it but resisted so far. It's as handsome as you'd expect.
This is a very good review. I'm in two minds about whether to get the absolutes or the omnibuses though.
Thank you so much!
As for your conundrum, all I can say is that for me, the Absolutes are already at the maximum bulk/thickness I enjoy, so I've never had any interest in the omnibuses. Value-wise, I think the omnibuses win? But they're just so cumbersome looking! 😓
Let me know what you end up deciding on!
I do not like the recoloring.
Is there anyone that has made a similar collection to absolute or omnibus that uses the original coloring?
Unfortunately, only seeking out the older editions (pre-Absolute Edition) in singles, TPB, or hardcover will help those who want the original colours. I don't know of anything like the Absolutes in size or production for the full series though, at least in English, although perhaps there are some rare and hard to find versions out there.
What do you think is the appropriate age to read sandman and do you think the story is hard to understand for a 14 -16 year oldnew to comics?
I hesitate to make a generalization about all kids of one age, but I feel a mature 15 year old could definitely enjoy the Sandman, especially if they are interested in myths, legends, fantasy and world literature. If they like reading books, I think this would work for them.
If they've never read comics before, may I also suggest the comics I recommend in this video here? ruclips.net/video/dYe4MG-OrO8/видео.html

Ouch, that's not cool! It's a great story, as I am sure you know, and definitely a part of the Absolute Editions, so I am confused as to why they would leave it out of the Omnibus Editions. Are you sure it isn't in Vol 1 by any chance?

These are gorgeous... my sister is a big Sandman fan.. I never got into the series myself, but the story and idea of the book is really well done. I had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Gaiman speak at Columbia Uni, a few years back, he's a very talented guy

Maybe I will revisit it one day with better skills, but so many comics, so little time 😁
Well u could lie on your belly and read the heavy comic
Ah yes, I spent many of my younger years like that. As an elderly gent with a desk job, it's hell on your neck and back after a while though! 😋
The recoloring is garbage
What's that "Made in Bollywood" accent ? ... Cow, it's horrible !
On the other hand, the explanations are very good ... Thank you !
