    I just discovered your channel and man oh man I love it. I love the way you eagerly talk about comics while also having a lot of meaningful things to say about them. You’ve definitely sold me on Jason and I can’t wait to read my first story of his soon.

    I've been looking off and on for comics related RUclips channels that appealed to me for years, and I rarely find them. Turns out all I had to do was head to India. :) Love what you're doing. Btw, I'm in Portland, OR, so that's a strange coincidence.
    So far, I've only read "Hey, Wait", "You Can't Get There From Here" and "I Klled Adolf Hitler". I always intend to read more, and this overview is invaluable.

      J Farrell Thanks so much for the kind words and I’m so glad you’re enjoying this little channel! I hope you get to check out more of Jason’s works and I’d love to know what you think. Hope you find plenty more to like on this channel, and I’m pleased to have another connection to Portland! 😀

    thank you for this video. I count myself really lucky not only to have all his comics, but to have them signed by him. He's a fantastic comic creator and I've loved his humour since I first bought Meow, Baby! in the early 00s. It's such a shame he's not better known, his work is so expansive that there's something for everyone to grab hold of and adore. Great video, keep it up!

    • @ftloc
      @ftloc  5 лет назад

      Thank you! And yes, it's a real shame that more people don't know of him because I think anyone who did would find at least one book of his to love, as you say. I'm quite jealous that you've gotten him to sign all your books - where do you / did you meet with him?

    I just came across your earlier Jason video then saw you had this expanded overview. Such great content! Your enthusiasm and commentary on his work is really good. By the comments I've read it's led some folks to explore more of Jason's work, or try it for the first time.
    There's a few more books of his I need to read but he is definitely one of my favorite cartoonists working today. HEY, WAIT is probably my favorite, although ON THE CAMINO was a refreshing new direction (no pun intended!) for him.
    Keep up the great work. Your production values are top notch!

    • @ftloc
      @ftloc  3 года назад

      Thank you so much for those kinds words! Yes, I love the idea of even a couple of people picking up Jason for the first time because of my videos, he's just that good! _Hey Wait_ is so quietly devastating that I think a number of his other works seem lighter in comparison, but on second readings they too carry a lot of the same melancholy strands. Which of his works will you be trying next? I need to feature O Josephine! in a video soon, it's been ages since I read that and still haven't found the right way to talk about it!

    Jason is also a favourite of mine. I have the 1st edition pf Sssshhh and, frankly i prefer the painted initial covers. Too bad Fantagraphics didn't decide to continue in this line.The black and white (along with the 2 colour printing) also works better with the very ligne claire style of his work, in my humble opinion. Good recommendations, no doubt.

    With so many books, do you think we’ll ever get a larger collection compendium of his usually slim books? Or a boxed set.

    • @ftloc
      @ftloc  4 года назад +2

      It's always possible, although I think it's more likely that Fantagraphics will reprint the uncollected books in hardcover compilations like What I Did and Almost Silent. Which is a pity, because as handsome as the HCs are, the slim volumes are very charming and unique, to my eyes.

    Hi. I'm a new subscriber here. Absolutely love love love your channel. I started reading graphic novels, and comics only this year. Made me wonder how much I was missing out on all this while. I'm adding Jason to my TBR, thanks to you. Also, I noticed when going through the book 'the living and the dead' you used the word prostitute, which I think has a negative connotation, as opposed to 'sex worker'. :P

    • @ftloc
      @ftloc  3 года назад +1

      Welcome to the channel and thanks so much for the kind words! I hope there's plenty you find here to try out and explore in comics, and do let me know what you thought of Jason (among others) when you get a chance to try him out!
      Re: the word prostitute, thank you for that note - I knew 'sex worker' as alternative terminology, but didn't realize the associations of the word 'prostitute' with the abolition lobby and other aggressive connotations; I'll be sure to keep it in mind from now on! Cheers!

    Question: do the clothbound hardcovers (or any other comics) contain extras at the end? I haven't seen you show any so I presume there aren't but just to be sure.

    • @ftloc

      No extras, unless you count a list of all Jason books published (with covers) right at the end,. The Jason Conquers America comic is a whole collection of great 'extras'' though 😁

    I'm looking out for 2 books 'Tell Me Something' & Werewolves Of Montpellier, but not sure from where to buy, Amazon is selling used copies with condition as given - Good, don't know whether to go for it, never tried used books before from amazon, any suggestions?

    • @ftloc
      @ftloc  5 лет назад

      Debjyoti Guha Used -Good usually means it’s an ex library copy, which will come with library stamps and stickers, sometimes a plastic cover. The insides tend to be be just fine so if you’re not bothered by the markings and library stuff, go for it. However, Tell Me Something is collected in the Almost Silent hardcover, so unless you’re set on the individual paperback, that may be an option to explore?

  • @DebjyotisGaming

    Personally I feel 'If You Steel' was average, only story which clicked with me was the title story - if you steel & new face, that's my 2 cents....

    • @ftloc
      @ftloc  5 лет назад +1

      Fair enough; someone like Jason sets their own bar so high that it is inevitable that some stories will not be at the same heights as our favourites. I definitely thought that collection was the most experimental, even for him, which always runs the risk of not quite clicking for everyone, as you say. I’ll still prefer someone attempt something new and fail than retread the same thing over and over, though, wouldn’t you?

    Does anyone know how/where can I get these comics in India?

    • @ftloc

      The slim paperbacks are a little harder to find these days but most of the hardcover collections are available through Amazon India or Bookswagon (dot) com from what I know
